It's actually kinda disappointing that they didn't point much out to you. There is plenty to do in Kirksville to keep you busy, when you actually have down time. I guess it depends on your hobbies though. If you like hiking, fishing, boating, etc. then Kirksville is a great place. If you like shopping for fun (I don't) and you don't want to drive, yes you are very limited. Truman State has concerts and stuff that you can attend with popular artists (e.g. B.o.B. in October). There are several bars you can go to on the weekends (or even weeknights). I will admit that Kirksville doesn't really shine when it comes to restaurants. They are OK, but if you are looking for fine dining then you will have to drive elsewhere. Also, there are festivals/fairs/etc. that occur during certain weekends on the square. Plus, if you get involved with clubs, you have the opportunity to host your own events so that could be another thing to do. Also, if you're into wineries, there is a relatively nice one about 5 minutes away. One of the great things about a small town is that you can walk most places (hair cut, movie theatre, bar, restaurants, etc.)
