I would choose Baylor. I actually rejected a UT Southwestern pre-match in favor of UT Houston. I was rather turned off by UT Southwestern on interview day. Really, though, can anything compare to the Texas Medical Center? Sure, Parkland is great. But really...

Easy. . . Baylor

Houston is pretty hot and muggy. Due to the big industrial base in east Houston and on the bay, the pollution is bad. The ozone level is 6th worst in the U.S. On the bright side, Baylor is located in the best part of Houston and in one of the biggest (if not the) medical centers in the country. Having UTH, Rice, and St Thomas in the immediate vicinity and UH not so far away makes for a young and vibrant atmosphere.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Houston, and location weighs in heavily in my preference for Southwestern over Baylor.

With the new potential Baylor-Rice merger and Baylor's substantial amount of financial difficulty, I'd hate to be around for the transition into 'Rice College of Medicine'. UT Southwestern has a great reputation for student preparedness and hands-on opportunities. A student in the medical center sometimes gets overlooked....

This thread is outdated from last year's application cycle; there is a more current thread that is currently active in School Specific Discussions: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=666831

Seeing as we don't need two threads on this topic, I'm going to go ahead and close this one and move it to School Specific Discussions for archiving. If you'd like to continue the discussion, feel free to do so there.
