Campbell University (CUSOM) DIscussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I submitted my secondary with payment on 7-27. Didn't hear anything or receive any confirmation email. On 8-7 I sent them an email to confirm receipt of the secondary but also to inform them that my letter of rec packet will include more letters than the two required letters. I still haven't heard anything from Campbell.?!

Is best to just give them a call. I did that last week and the lady actually went through the trouble of hunting down my application and recommendation letters and telling me on the phone that my app was complete. I called on a Friday and then got my application complete email the following Monday.

They will only e-mail you once it is complete. If they do not have your letters yet, then your application is not considered complete. Did you send the letters?

Ah ok. I thought they sent a secondary received email as well to confirm they got it. I went to my UG school today who is doing my letters for me via VirtualEvals and they said they weren't sent yet....nice huh. Anyhow they should be sent today or tomorrow. Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the tip. When I get the confirmation that my letters have indeed been sent from my undergrad pre-health office, I'll wait for a while again and then check in with Campbell if I don't hear anything.

I had to call. The wait was driving me nuts. Joy Henderson went through everything on the phone with me. She said they are downloading supplimental apps daily and all the paper LORs have to be scanned into the system for a digital copy. It takes time. I got my complete email on Monday of this week. Sent my LORs by mail the previous Monday and my supplimental was up loaded two Fridays ago. So about a two week turn around time. But once it is complete I hear it is a week for a interview decision!

^x2.... I spoke with Ms. Henderson yesterday after my letters had not been "received" for two weeks even though they had been sent via VirtualEvals already. Nevertheless, she went through and made sure my letters were applied to my file while we were on the phone and sent me the "complete" e-mail at the same time. If you ever have any questions, do not hesitate to contact her. She is extremely helpful and very kind as well. Makes this process a bit more enjoyable 🙂

not really depressing news man. it doesnt seem like they haven really given out many interviews yet..this is a new school i imagine things may be a little slow at first

Here is an update for Campbell: http://www.campbell.edu/news/item/medical-school-numbers

Only 40 applicants have been granted interviews so far out of 700 applicants. Very excited about this school 😀
First interviews start this coming Monday.
I read that article as well...things seem to be coming along quite nicely. CUSOM also just received grants totalling $4 million, which is great for the program. By chance, where did you see that interviews would be coming out on Monday?

The actual interviews will start Monday. They have not sent out their second batch of invites yet.

Campbell...please upload my letters!!!

When 'O' when can I hear about an interview.....lalala going crazy

I would be interested in seeing how many interviews were granted vs. the number of secondaries submitted thus far. I haven't submitted my secondary yet, but out of 700 applicants, a ~6% chance of an interview is a little daunting.

Don't fret. I believe they only sent out one batch of invites so far. The first interview day is this Monday, and I interview the following Monday. I have a feeling people will be getting interview calls this week.

yea my interview is on tues. i think they only sent invites for these two weeks so far.

I assume after todays interviews they will send out a new batch of interviews towards the end of the week.

-living on a hope and a prayer....

How long you guys think I should wait to get the complete email before contacting them? My secondary was sent in 7-27 but my letters where just submitted via VirtualEvals this last tuesday (8-14).

Do the schools download letters from interfolio and virtual evals every so often?...How does that work?

so... on the secondary it asks if you consider yourself a minority applicant. I do because I'm a member of the LGBTQ community, how much of a risk would it be to put that in my application? I mean this school is in North Carolina...

I wouldn't. I don't think it is very relevant, nor would I risk the possibility that the reader of your application doesn't like LGBT individuals.

I see where you are coming from. Idk. I almost feel like I'm lying if I check no tho, because I do consider myself a minority and obviously there are not a whole lot of us in the medical profession. freakin A

So I interviewed on Monday and am extremely excited about the school. I'll try to just give a brief summary of my thoughts, but would be glad to answer any questions that I can.
So, I felt like the format of the day was very similar to the disruptions from the old threads of interviews at VCOM. The staff was extremely nice and did a really good job of keeping the day very laid back and low stress. Mattie and Joy seemed like they were just as excited as we were. At the interview was myself and four other applicants, the beginning of the day we did small introductions and had a presentation that included layouts of every floor of the new school (awesome), their mission, curriculum, renderings of what the inside of the building will look like (beautiful), and the rotation sites (wakemed and others). Then we broke up into our 3 half hour interviews. I Thought that the interviews were a great experience and very informal conversation-like, with them talking probably as much as me. No trick questions what so ever, I felt like they were trying to get to know me and we talked about my long term career goal and specifics from my app a lot. Only one of my interviewers was a little tough to read (poker face), but everyone seemed extremely confident in the new school and really gave the impression that the school has the experienced faculty, financial backing, and hospital connections to really be a successful school in the future. This was even more emphasized during lunch with the dean who informally answered any questions for us. Then we did a tour of the undergrad campus and a meeting with the financial aid person.
Sorry this is so long, but I was just really shocked by how excited I became about the school, and I feel like it will be extremely hard to top based experiences. I currently check my phone every five minutes to see if somehow I missed a call, we are supposed to find out by the end of the week via phone call!

Man, you just got me stoked for the chance to interview and potentially go here! All I need is that interview call but my guess is they're busy right now with reviewing all of you that interviewed.

Congrats on the acceptance too!

ACCEPTED!! i really loved this school!! good luck to everyone else! 😀

Congrats on both of you and the lurkers out there that got accepted! Way to go! Now just waiting on that interview invite....

CONGRATS! mind sharing your stats and whether you are in-state or OOS? Haven't gotten my interview call yet...super anxious now

Thanks! im from VA, graduated from UVA with a 3.66 cgpa and 3.57 sgpa, mid-20s mcat.

Congrats to you too! It was great meeting all of you, maybe I'll see you all again in the fall 🙂

have you all decided this is where you're going?

It will be hard to top for me, my fiancée is sold on the location and I think from the sounds of things CUSOM would be a really good fit for me. I think I'm withdrawing from all my schools except Ohio U, VCOM-Carolinas, and my local MD school. But I would kinda have to be blown away by one of them, bc I'm kinda in love with Campbell 🙂

agreed 🙂

I agree with the others I loved the school as well. I definitely didn't expect to like it so much. I started googling apartments in the area when I got home.

Even though I was ultimately not accepted, it was nice to meet all of you. I wish you all the best. As far as the school, I think they were very well organized, everyone I met was extremely friendly and excited.

But don't feel sorry for me when one door closes another opens. I was invited to interview at Touro-CA and Western-Pomona after I received CUSOM's email.

that sucks, they outright rejected you? i wonder why..

Classy attitude. Keep it up and you'll be set up. Best of luck in your upcoming interviews!

accepted here as well. I was very hesitant about the school, but by the end of the interview, i was in love. The family atmosphere of the staff, and the dedication they put in have made it amazing. They are really well prepared to start a medical school, and im not worried one bit about anything. I am really excited for the opportunity. Congrats to everyone else that has been accepted, and good luck to anyone who receives an interview.

What do you think kept you out? Congrats on the new interviews!

Good luck everyone!

Well I received the dreaded "not at this time" email. CUSOM stated no reason. They stated they might review it again in the future.

Not to be a downer but man this just does not seem to be working out for me. I was really hoping this school would work out.

But as someone said earlier "one door closes another opens"....Good luck to all of you!

+1, It was great meeting you. Good luck on the interviews, at the end of the day you can only accept one school anyway. Yours is coming I'm sure, it is not even September yet.

That's really awesome that you liked the school that much, I'm hoping to have the same thoughts after my interview this Monday. Does anyone who interviewed have any specific advice??
