Campbell University (CUSOM) DIscussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am applying here this cycle and I have a 3.86 overall gpa and a 3.78 science and scored a 23 6ps9v8bs on my mcat. I am a Hispanic Texas resident.

I think it's worth applying if you do so early because of your GPA. I would say with an early application you would have a fair chance at an interview. I would still consider retaking the MCAT if you feel positive that you can beat the 23 because improving your score even 1 or 2 points would open many doors.

You will be screened out because of that 6. Start studying for a retake

Any idea when we could start hearing about iis?

For the secondary, are both ACT and SAT scores required before we can send in the app?

Can anyone help me out on how they answered this question?

Please list below any employment, clinical, healthcare, and/or research experiences and volunteer activities NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR AACOMAS APPLICATION beginning with the most recent. Be sure to include location (site, city, state), dates of experience (month/year, hours/week), and description of experience.

I mean I basically updated my AACOMAS with everything, so I'm confused on what I should do about this.

That was in last year's secondary as well. I just left it blank.

They put that kind of stuff in because the midseason applicants will have to wait almost 6-weeks to get their application confirmed and then another few to receive and finish the secondary. This gives them a chance to add anything they may have done over the two month gap between AACOMAS submission and the secondary. (Just my assumption though).

I got that email and then the secondary invite an hour later. By the way, does anyone not have anything to add to the part where we are supposed to put volunteer/work info not on aacomas? I feel weaker with nothing to put there, but then again I'm taking a class and training(cycling) this summer.

i left mine blank last year when i applied. didn't hurt me. i think it's just a way of them giving you a chance to add anything you might have missed initially

Best of luck to you all! I'm here for UG and I'll probably apply here when I try for medical school.

My experience is that the staff is super friendly. But our bookstore is sort of steep so you'd be better off seeing if Amazon offers your books. I did that for most of my books this semester and I saved about 100 bucks, which was like a third savings. 😀

Buies Creek is quiet but you're right off a highway so with a vehicle you could go to local towns. Just don't expect a sprawling metro center. ^^

I hope you all hear good news from us! Go c/o 2017!

I can't speak for the undergrad. I know they keep telling us that they are a medical school on a Baptist campus not a Baptist medical school. The medical school campus is also separate from the undergrad campus, so I don't think you being atheist or gay would be a problem at all.

Sometimes even us christians can be professional and nice 😉

Good luck on the season

Be sure to look at the schools FB page. They are doing a great job posting pics as they complete the building. OMM lab was posted yesterday.

anyone know how to check our app status?

Hi! So I read on the website that they look at the highest MCAT score? Is that true?
I have a 3.97 gpa and 3.93 sgpa, 28 mcat (9bs/10vr/9ps), retook the mcat and haven't gotten scores back but i've been having nightmares that my retake was worse haha. would they just disregard the second set of scores if they turn out to be worse?

Why on earth did you retake (assuming you're applying DO only)? You're numbers are outstanding for all DO schools.

With that said, I think you still have a pretty good shot at MD too.

Unless you were scoring mid 30s I think your retake was very risky.

Well I'm applying MD along with DO and retook before I even got my scores back because I thought I panicked during the first test and thought I scored in the low 20s...thinking back on it I feel like I should've waited for my scores but oh well haha

Hey guys what's the cost of secondary here? Would love to add them to my list but need to be smart about money.

Thank you I just submitted it! It will be money well worth it! Baptist campus and NC I'm in love!

So there min score for section is a 6? I take my test tomorrow and am getting 10-12 on both ps/bs but verbal 6-8

Yes they said they'd like to see a 6. I don't think it's a hard and fast rule though.

Hopefully I'll ace the other 2 sections and they just realize that I suck at verbal and figuring out the authors meaning!

Looks like you and I are applying to some of the same schools, good luck! :luck:

We have to attend a required service for like an hour a week, and we take Intro to Christianity and a religion elective. People wise, it really depends- I find a lot of the criminal justice and history people act like they were witnesses to the scribing of the Ten Commandments.

The art, music, and biology/chemistry/pharmacy people are far more relaxed. I'm agnostic (albeit straight) and I find that as long as you don't say anything offensive about religion then you're good. Some of the biology people are trying to start a LBQT club and we'll see how that pans out.

I think that the medical school will be even more relaxed- with professional schooling I'd assume people would be more mature about it.

But the latter is just my inference- I don't know any more than you do.

It's a beautiful building, though. If there's anything these people can do, it's build something.

Yikes, good thing the Medical School doesn't force us to do any of that. I'm a pretty staunch atheist so I made sure to ask about how much religion will be involved with the curriculum, and I was assured by everyone, even Dean Kauffman, that we are there to "learn medicine and the science of pathology only", if you're religious, then great, if you're agnostic/atheist, that's perfectly fine as well, but no one will be forced to go to church or learn about Christianity or required to do anything religious unless they choose to do so on their own time.

Does this school require LORs to be complete?

How much religious influence if any does CUSOM have?

Average numbers for last year's class?

1) LORs required to be in for application to be considered complete.

2) Religious influence? In what sense? On the community, on the students? No religion is involved with the medical school.

3) No numbers yet. Probably will come out when first classes begin to see who commits to Campbell and who doesn't.

True, unfortunately. I spoke with Joy and Maddy after getting an email that stated they want me to retake to bring up my 6. (6ps 9vr 10bs) Unfortunately, 3 phone calls and 2 emails later, they are sticking to the policy.

so did you not get a secondary from CUCOM?

Wonderful info thank you. That's was I was hoping for (and pretty much the same answers I got from MUCOM as well)

Secondary submitted. This school seems pretty good, albeit new. I think this would be a good fit for me. Just waiting on that darn committee LOR :/

my letters are in, where do we send them? I'm using Interfolio.

Received an email that stated my file is complete and under review. I received the secondary on 6/28 and submitted it on 7/1.
