Campbell University (CUSOM) DIscussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Keep your heads up guys and gals...I don't think still having classes in progress is an automatic delay because I still have prereqs in progress.

I just submitted my primary from aacomas to CUSOM. seeing as how some of you have already had interviews and have been accepted am I late in the game? I figured late july was still kind of early....

There has been one ii, no interviews yet so no acceptances. You are fine! Their very first class started orientation today.

finally decided to quit lurking and join the discussion. I called admissions Monday to let them know that I will be leaving for a missions trip to Africa in a month and can only be reached via email until December. Joy was extremely nice and told me I was on the list for an interview invite so she scheduled it while I was on the phone. August 19th!

I can't believe you all will be starting over here so soon! 😀

UG starts the 21st. It's such a pretty building... I'd walk through it this upcoming year if that wouldn't make me a tool. |D

Yep, we started orientation today! The building is amazingly ridiculous! I'm very excited to start, and I am sure you guys will love it when you visit for interviews and such.

The building looks gorgeous!

Definitely feel welcome to come check it out some time! It's a beautiful building and I'm sure someone will be happy to give you a tour around at some point, being the Campbell family and all 🙂 Just know you probably can't do much roaming beyond the first floor due to access locks and security.

Yeah, those pesky locks!

It'd be like a psych floor experience on your first day. :meanie:

I might, though! I have huge swaths of time during the school week and as a commuter I have my own car. |D

They probably won't say jack about it. Call me crazy, but a part of me thinks that they'll use the data to make an early admission criteria for future UG students. They have a similar thing for their pharmacy school, it wouldn't surprise me if that was why they were doing it.

Obviously I wouldn't be able to use it. 🙁

I'm sure you didn't do as bad as you think you did! I've heard some truly miserable scores.

Secondary submitted! Hope I get that awesome email about an interview!!

Keep us posted I'm planning on submitting my secondary either today or tomorrow- got to figure out how to dig up my old sat/act test scores :/

Hey people!

Campbell's trying to push a lot of fixes to accommodate the growth and the medical school.

http://www.campbell.edu/news/item/c...ansportation-wishlists-with-new-dot-secretary

Hopefully they can get it done. 😀

Yessss! Perhaps by the time I apply there will be more public transportation options! I emailed to ask about public transportation at Campbell and, so far, there is only a shuttle from main campus to the medical campus. No good. haha
I am too hooked on my public transportation...lol

I am registered for the August tour of Campbell. I wish the FB page would post more pictures...

That's great news!

How about living situations? I toured the undergrad area in the spring and drove past the medical school. I only saw a handful of homes and apartment complexes. Any plans to build more apartments in the area? Or are most students going to be living in Lillington or other surrounding areas and commuting?

As for living situations, I'm not terribly sure. I wish I had more info on that to give to you all.

But I know of a pharmacy student that was a RD, so they may try to put the remainder in dorms. Not sure, though.

I'm excited for the construction, though. And I may take a shuttle to the med school for kicks. Why not, right? I have like 4+ hours to kill anyway on certain days.

So, some feedback on housing for all of you active SDNers as well as the thousands of SDN creepers reading,

We have people commuting from all over the place. To the north in Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, and many in Fuquay Varina. Even a few in Durham/Raleigh (which I don't recommend for commuting 5 days a week). Other closer towns are Lillington, Erwin, Dunn, Coates, Angier...

The point is, unlike some DO programs, there is more than enough options around here for you all to choose from. You just may not be able to live right around CU campus itself, though there are actually a ton of townhome clusters and non-undergrad apartments tucked into some trees in Buies Creek that you probably didn't even realize are around. The school has a good list w/ many of the specific options (and which to avoid) but I wouldn't get too ahead of yourself yet, even if this is your top choice

Uh, not sure what you are looking for in regards to public transportation but CUSOM and CU itself are pretty rural and so there is not now nor in the foreseeable future any significant options available since they aren't really necessary here. Maybe it will make more sense when you visit 😉

I actually live north of Lillington, so I know it is rural. I am not looking for extensive public transportation, but if there were shuttles that went elsewhere in Lillington for students then that would be awesome. Having sidewalks is a huge help, so I am glad they put that in.

Gotcha, yeah the sidewalks are a great idea

How was orientation? What's the feel you're getting from the school so far?

I love it so far! I really get the feeling of family here, and I think these people are going to do everything in their power to help us be successful!

I know that this is just n=1 and that many people say this but as a whole the student body has really melded. We are here to succeed as individuals of course but we are also serious about making sure ALL of us do. We have used the word "family" a lot but the truth is when you visit you will feel what we are talking about. From the President of the University, to the Deans of CUSOM, to all the faculty/staff... they are going to make sure we succeed, we aren't alone in this.
There is a lot of excitement around here if you visit you'll feel it. One of the faculty told me in all the medical schools they have taught at they have never been with such impressive but caring group of faculty. That leaderships sets the tone for us too and it will carry on to the incoming classes.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering whether Campbell is receptive to Canadian applicants. In the College Information Book, CUSOM states that they take International Student Applicants. However, I am aware that a number of other schools (PCOM comes to mind) state that they take international students but, for all intents and purposes, do NOT take Canadians. Is there any information about whether Canadians have matriculated there (or at least interviewed there) during the inaugural cycle?

Thanks!

Interview invite! I received a call this evening! Very professional. They gave me two dates: 8/19, 8/20. I took the 19th. Time is 0730-2. You have 3 interviews one-on-one at 30min each.
