Brown is mostly BS/MD, has less research opportunities, has no top residency programs, and is a newer school. Less important: the med school is also not directly connected to the ugrad compus or the hospital.
Case has a much better reputation, more research opportunities, multiple top residency programs, and has better clinical training at some of the best hospitals in the world (CC, UH, MH). Its not an Ivy though...
This opinion is very uninformed. Not sure why someone who hasn't attended both schools or at the very least done an away rotation at both schools would decide to chime in this way. Take radiology for example (our residency program has been in the top, if not the top, for several years in a row).
There are plenty of research opportunities at both schools for most medical students. We do not have a MD PHD program. If you want to do neuroscience research...you want to come to Brown over pretty much any other place. So...it all depends on what you want to do. You could also say that Cleveland Clinic students are taking away resources from Case...Obviously this is just conjecture.
The majority of our student body is now standard admit or post-bacc. And the PLME program continues to shrink. And please tell me what is the difference between a standard admit who goes to med school right after college and a PLME who did 4 years at brown and is now in med school at brown? The MCAT?
The medical training at most MD schools is EXACTLY THE SAME (this includes Harvard, Brown, Case, Iowa, USF etc.....). You just have to match which school best fits with your learning style.
Absolutely NO-ONE except you can tell you what school is best for you!
The way to choose a medical school is:
1. Financial Package
2. Administration Support of your learning style...because this will eventually effect how you perform in school.
3. What kind of people you want to work with.
Oh! One more thing. Most of the PLME students at Brown either don't know each other.
