Just thought I would drop in to see what all the commotion is about. A good friend that I went to grad school with last year is coming to interview on the 25th. He said things were a bit heated in here.
He also said that the LUCOM staff have been nothing but professional and courteous to him, and it seems that the unprofessional behavior on this forum is limited to the participants who have no interest in applying to, or attending for that matter, LUCOM. So far it appears that the current students and applicants are maintaining the level of professionalism that is expected of future doctors, and that makes me proud.
EH123, I have to agree...I am rather fond of our first year class. To respond to this sort of criticism from people who have never been to our school with the level of professionalism we have is a trait that I feel is very becoming of future physicians. It is a testament to the fact that the faculty, staff, and students who are at LUCOM are not bigoted, judgmental, closed-minded, individuals who deny science or its place in medicine. Rather, we are a motley crew of individuals from different creeds, religions, socioeconomic backgrounds, etc. that have come together because we have a common thread woven into our cloth; the thread of compassionate service to others. And by others, I mean absolutely anyone and EVERYONE. There is not a person in this building who would turn their nose up at helping any person, for any reason, I can promise you that. That is a testament to the incredible work in the admissions department, and the tone set for them by the administration and staff. The attitude here is driven from the top down, and that is rare these days. The faculty and staff here drive us towards service by being amazing role models, and providing exceptional service and guidance to us as students.
I am even more excited to see next year's class, and it is my hope that with the hard work we all put in over the next weeks, months, years, and decades, the reputation of this institution will stand on its own. If even one person makes it out of this program and goes on to provide access to medical services in a community which otherwise might not have had access to quality medical care, then the world is a better place. The truth is, that number will be much higher than one.
Show me the patient that lauds physician based on their incredible board scores...good luck finding one. Show me the patient that lauds their physician based on how much they care about them, and how much they trust them...you should have no trouble finding people in this category.
