Yes, I just replied!

3 cycles... I wasn't looking forward to taking the mcat again 😳! Thanks, I think the camaraderie will be strong.

i would really appreciate it if anyone could compare ACOM and MU-COM at least from first impressions etc. thinking of cancelling my interview at MU-COM if I get in to ACOM as I'm running low on funds.

I don't know anything about ACOM, but from going to the interview at MU-COM, I think they will be hard to beat. Faculty is already top-notch, facilities are unbeatable, they have contacted DOs to serve as mentors for each student, they have partnerships with top hospitals across the entire state.... etc. I expect MU-COM to be a powerhouse once they start graduating classes. If you can swing the funds, I definitely think you should check it out to decide for yourself between the two.

Anyone know when they call about being waitlisted or rejected? Time? Day? Slowly going mad here...

Don't freak out yet. The first week they made the acceptance calls Thursday and waitlist calls and rejection emails on Friday (as far as I know anyways). I'm not sure if that's how they still do things though so don't jump to conclusions yet

:luck: :xf: :luck: :xf:

Both r good schools, but MU-COM is a little bit better in my opinion.
Think about the location, career in the future, research opportunities with nearby world class institutions, huge amounts of big hospitals around campus, not to mention about faculties. You must already known that ACOM has very outstanding faculties with great experiences, but you will be surprised by MU-COM. They do spend big investment for recruiting extremely high-profile faculties in MU-COM. It will be a good investment for you to visit Indiana.

My official acceptance letter came in the mail today! 😀

At least you guys are waiting for interviews and have gotten that far. Any word on iis yet?

I was accepted to both tileist975j. I think you might be getting some MUCOM bias in this thread which is expected. Both will be incredible schools and each has pros and cons depending on certain factors when compared to one another. You probably won't go wrong choosing either school but you will never know if you don't visit both and see for yourself!

Feel free to PM me if you want further insight.

Everybody get the email about tuition being set to 42000/year. Thoughts?

Hmmm I'm indifferent because it's not that much more than the proposed 40,000, but I do wonder why it was increased and what that extra budgeted money is going towards.

Yea I got that...I wasn't happy about it..Its more expensive than any of my other schools. They are advocating paperless so much and with their high tech tech stuff I really was shocked that we would not be provided a lapto/ipad of the sorts. schools like DCOM, kycom, cusom all are providing laptops or tablets. Surprised that MU-COM isnt.

I see your point about the higher tuition, but just remember nothing is free. They provide you with the tablet or laptoP but that is built into tuition somewhere. Look at it as more freedom to choose the device you want. I would not make a decision about a school based on offering a "free" laptop 🙂 just my opinion!

I dont think you could call it an increase, per se. They just said it would be around $40,000...

That being said, I am also curious in general to see why tuition for all schools is going up so drastically. I can't imagine it being fully needed for operations, but its like this for pretty much all schools, and even public schools are increasing tuition. But, they did attract a pretty solid faculty, and Im sure it wasn't because of the Indiana beaches 😉

All in all, 40K vs 42K is not ruffling my feathers...

(but it would be nice to have our text on an iPad for sure!! I heard even ACOM is doing this...hint, hint MUCOM 😉 )

I got the same one regarding it being 42 instead of 40, but its not a terribly huge amount more. I'm sure those extra few K's will be going to our EXCELLENT building and the amazing technology we will be privy to! Can't wait to find out more from Brian in March.
(SO long to wait...don't they know I'm already online looking at stethoscopes?! )
😀

Truthfully, like another poster mentioned, I am glad to have the opportunity to pick my own operating system, be it a PC, Mac, or tablet. I would be really unhappy to receive a lovely tablet from a school as part of its freebies, only to hate it soon thereafter and wish I could have chosen my own system with my own customizations. BTW from the slight research I've done, many med students and some of the Dr's I've worked with have IPad's because, as they say, there are a ton of helpful/useful applications available to medical professionals, and the IPads are at least unobtrusive enough that I figure I might be able to to jot down notes quietly during rounds without carrying around paper/pen/notebooks.

The tuition IS comparable to most other DO schools right now, so I am not altogether unhappy with the price per year. Although I think we all wish that it was cheaper 🙄

I am not saying the lack of a lapto and ipad are going to be my deciding factors for a school. I am just saying I was surprised they don't provide us with those amenities. and wait a second. since when is there a P at the end of a laptop!!??! lol 😉

Agreed, that's why I said I was indifferent 😳

However, I was surprised by the email because when I asked at the interview how much tuition would be, I was answered $40,000 without hesitation. I actually thought it was already finalized. Ah well, in the long run it really doesn't matter lol.

And idk about anyone else, but I already have an iPad. Giving me another one would just be a waste! 👎

True, add ons really wouldn't phase me too much as long as the tech of the building makes up for it 😉

The final cost per year is just becoming "really real" for me, haha. Very scary.

very important point you make. thank you

This. Kinda nice that the cost of the textbooks which will be loaded onto the supplied iPad is also included in tuition....from what I hear medschool text books aren't cheap.

Fortunately they come in etext now, which are less expensive than (new) standard text. Plus, with the various coursework there may not always be one specific "required" text. There may be several suggested text. That's hard to determine just yet with the new curriculum though.

Not an iPad, an iPad with our text! 🙂 that's the big diff. I have and iPad and a mini, but you can always sell them you know!! But the big deal would be to have digital text and not the extra cost...this might not be possible, but it would be nice 🙂

2K is not a big deal. I heard MU-COM IT team supports all platforms which is not limited to Ipad. My nexus 7 should be fine, and I am not an apple fan. Although I am an medical imaging engineer, I prefer to do all my imaging process with my PC. I will not be happy if I am forced to use Mac and Ipad in the future.

OHHHHHHH. Okay i feel dumb 😳 That would be AWESOME lol 👍

Hey guys,

I wanted to know if you had any insight on how many seats are left. It seems that there have been a lot of acceptances lately. I would want to know if somebody who hasn't been offered an interview yet would still have a shot.

As of two weeks ago, I believe 71 acceptances were given (and the class can be a max of 162 i think). Idk how many were given out in the last 2 weeks. You have to assume a chunk of those will not put a deposit down in December, so don't give up hope just yet! 🙂

On their website, it says a competitive gpa is 3.4. I got an e-mail recently saying I have a good MCAT, but my gpa is below what they're looking for in order to get an ii...so decision is deferred 🙁. What I don't get is I have around a 3.5 gpa...so can anyone share their stats and explain how my gpa is above what they expect, but they say it isn't? Thanks.

Obviously only the school can tell you for sure what they mean but those stats were posted before applications started rolling in. Perhaps the bar was raised with all the applications they were getting. Shoot them an email.

I'm sorry this happened to you 🙁 I'm with the poster above - definitely contact them and see if you can find out specifics. I know you and I have spoken before but I don't remember your whole story: do you have any upper level bio courses? They seem to put a lot of emphasis on those, and if you don't have much maybe the GPA you have doesn't carry much weight. (Clearly speculation - but they seem to put a lot of importance on courses like that). Keep the faith, I'll continue to cross my fingers for you! :xf:

Did anyone start an accepted MU-COM facebook page?

Does MU-COM have a dress code?

As far as the dress code is concerned, I'm pretty sure they said there was not one, as of this point. They did mention that we can expect to have Indiana physicians as our guest speakers during our classes, and that it would be nice to be dressed appropriately. I am thinking that as long as you at least put your hair in order and brush your teeth (basic hygiene) then you'll probably be fine. Nonetheless, I was given the impression when I interviewed on 10/19 that you would want to look "professional" and "appropriate" so I would hope to not look sloppy to my professors and other students (even as tempting as it may be to come to class in PJ's and sweats...). I think it may just have to do with giving your professors the appreciation for their time, and also showing them that you are serious about school. I'm not saying "white coat, dress slacks/dress, and for men a tie EVERY day," but I am saying that we should look like medical students, not like, well, other students 😎. We can all figure it out when we get there though!
This also went along with the attendance policy. It was mentioned that we at this point would not have one since we are "young professionals" who can manage our time appropriately. Furhter, they did discuss how they plan to have all of our lectures videotaped and posted online, which is AWESOME because that means we can go back in case we did not quite hear or understand the topic! 👍👍

The later the application season, the higher the expectations are. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Wow, it seems like this school gets more competitive everyday! Has anyone who was complete on the 31st of October heard about interviews yet?

I'm going to assume not. I was complete pretty much the earliest anyone could be for this school and it took 11 days for an II. It has only been 12 days since the 31st, and I'm going to assume the turnaround is a little slower at this point in the cycle due to them having more applications. Clearly speculation, but just saying not to freak out over hearing nothing yet.

Applications with a 10/31 complete date will have interview decisions by Friday of this week, if no sooner.

👍 Love the quick turn around time here! Some schools you wait months to find out about interviews. Way to go MUCOM! 😍
