Interview invite!! November 17th, day before my birthday 🙂 🙂 pumped

Where did everyone who had to travel into Indiana stay at and was the prices reasonable?

Only the letter...no further info. But he did email and say that we'll be getting the portal update late next week. Lots of travel putting things back a little.

Im looking forward to getting all the details I can! Pretty excited to see how this all fleshes out.
 
There are 3 cohorts per interview day, with 7 students per cohort... is this correct? I know they are interviewing on Fridays and Saturdays. Are Saturdays a constant concurrent with each Friday? And are there 3 cohorts on Saturdays as well? Based on the number of interviews conducted it could be estimated, roughly, how many acceptances have been given.

I'm interviewing on the 16th. There may be 100, or so, acceptances by that point. The sooner the better with regards to an interview. Apply early as it's said.
 
Whee did you guys stay in indianapolis (any cheap motels)? How long does the interview day last?
 
Anyone dropping an interview spot in November, please let me know.
Also, I was wondering once the interview is booked, can we still see which dates are open? I know we can't change it ourselves, but can we check and see which spots are available?

No once it's booked you can't see anything. I literally booked the first date available right away and regretted it for a second by not looking through the others haha. So I guess just make sure you book the date you want because if you want to change it, you can only do it once I believe, and you have to contact them in order to do so.
 
Has anyone sent more than the 3 required letters? I have an additional MD letter I'd like to send it they are open to additions. I already sent my two science and one DO. Thanks!

I agree with this. And it's tricky to change because I assume once someone cancels it could get picked up through the portal by someone else before you are able to contact them and snatch it up! Best bet is to email or call them 🙂 they are so friendly and helpful, Bryan helped me with my scheduling!

Yes, they are open to additional letters. I actually had 6 total letters sent (since some other schools said a few of my letters didn't 'count' for what they wanted...poo on them. I care not, since I got accepted here!!!)

I had a DO referral, an MD referral, a physics prof, my academic adviser, psychology prof, and physiology prof. These were my 6 letters, although I know on the secondary they only require that you write about your 2 primary letter writers. Nonetheless, I feel that my other letters gave a more rounded view of myself and my experiences, and allowed the admissions committee to see that I was a qualified applicant 😀

I stayed at a cheaper motel, a few miles from campus, (like 4 miles, pretty simple to get there even for someone who was an out-of-stater like myself). It was under $70, and it was decent. Not great, not good, but for a bed close to campus, it worked. Of course, I made sure I ate before it got dark and didn't leave my room after 7 pm til the morning, but hey, that seemed like the better thing to do anyway.

It was an America's Best Value at Indy West/Speedway.

Again, not too great, but for it being a less expensive place, I was just fine! (rather save all I can to make the deposit!)

I stayed at the quality inn on lafeyette rd. It was about 5 miles away and only $50-ish a night! With continental breakfast. I booked through Choice Hotels website for the cheaper price.
 
Did anyone have their letters physically mailed in? I didn't know this was a completely paperless admissions process. All of my letters are on paper, so I would have to ask that they be scanned and turned into PDFs and then emailed to admissions. That's going to be a pain. 🙁

I mailed mine in. Didn't seem to be an issue 🙂

Mine were all mailed too, with no issues.
 
quick question for those who interviewed. How did you guys get from the airport to the hotel. I am staying at Indywest and wondering if there is a shuttle from the airport to hotel and then to the school for the interview and then back. Or should I rent a car. suggestions?

Car rental is super cheap here, comparatively, even from the airport stationed merchants. I'd suggest that, esp if you are 25+.
 
Is anyone else interviewing on December 15th?

Also, for those who have previously interviewed, what was the parking situation like. I'm guessing since my interview is on a Saturday there will be lots of open spaces, but I just wanted to know how early I should get to campus.

They email you a parking pass a day or two before and tell you where to park 🙂

I was in cohort 3 and by the time I got to campus (over an hour early), all of the spaces were taken already so I parked kinda funky. No one seemed to mind but it was kind of a pain. And if you don't get the parking pass a few days beforehand, email them and they'll send you one. I got mine the night before the interview.

Good to know! Granted I'm in cohort 1, so I should be safe.
 
Hey guys, same old question. I am a senior neurobiology major from Chicago with a 3.53 cGPA, 3.35 sGPA, and a 3.7 nsGPA. I just got my mcat score back today and it was a 23O. I am disappointed with that score but it seems my GPA is at the average or a little above for some of the schools. I have over a year of shadowing a variety of physicians. I am currently working as a phlebotomist/lab tech at a private doctors office that sees 14,000 patients a year, so I am familiar with the medical setting and different insurance policies. I was also the scholarship chair of my fraternity and played a collegiate sport for 2 years. I just want to figure out my competitiveness to get an interview at Marian.

Don't count yourself out yet! I have similar stats and was accepted at Marian. You can look at my MDapps for all of my stats. Have you already applied?
 
my application was sent im to accomas 5 weeks ago and still isnt verified. I was going to call but all office are shut down due to hurricane sandy. At this point im assuming hopes lost bc of the hurricane.
 
How long after verification did you guys get secondaries?
 
You should probably be receiving the secondary ~2 weeks from verification. But it could be sooner or later depending on how busy they are. Patience amigo! Good Luck!
 
Anyone else interviewing 11/02? This will be my first MMI ever! Oh, the nervous excitement abounds.
 
what address did you send your LOR's to? I don't see one on the website for the office of admissions office.

Not on the 2nd, but the 3rd now. Understand the nerves concerning the MMI format... To those who already interviewed: is there a traditional style interview at all, in addition to the MMI?

Yes there's 6 ten minute "situational" stations and 1 twenty minute normal interview. It's the perfect mix! 🙂

For those who have interviewed: would you mind sharing some prompts or some questions that you feel are similar to those you were presented with in the MMI at MU? I am very unfamiliar with the MMI format and can find only scant information on the web.

Also, is the 20 minute interview at the end of the day open or closed file?

From what we were told, the scenarios change pretty frequently so you probably won't find many prompts online to practice with.

All of the interviewers only have your name, undergrad institution name, and major. Anything else you want them to know, you need to bring up yourself. I have a graduate degree and volunteer with hospice, so I made sure they knew that before I left, since they didn't have that information in front of them when I interviewed.

All of mine were scenarios but I tried to pull in some examples of things I've done before, it if matched the points I was trying to get across.
 
Did you talk for 8 minutes straight? or was it a back and forth kind of thing? Also, is there a timer somewhere in the room? How do you know when the 10 minutes is up??

Usually not the full 8 minutes; once I was finished, they'd usually ask a follow-up by changing something in the scenario to see if your answer would be different. One of my interviewers said I answered my question pretty well so we talked about research after that. Bryan is in the hallway and he knocks on the door once your time is up. They explain all of it before you go through them. It's not nearly as stressful as I thought it would be.

Some prompts are scenarios ie. what would you do/how would you handle this, others are "discuss your thoughts on this...why or why not" type of open ended questions.

All the traditional interview stuff is in the double station.
