Marian University (MU-COM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'll be withdrawing from the waitlist....just got into LECOM! Good luck to you all!

That's awesome! You were really motivated this cycle (not that everyone isn't). It's good to know you achieved your goal. 👍

For those of you that have interviewed already, how was it? Can you please elaborate on how the MMI worked? Thanks in advance!

Somebody might go ahead and offer you a rundown however I just want to point out that the MMI has been covered in pretty good detail, multiple times in this thread. If you are serious about MU-COM it would be in your best interest to read through the whole thread because there is a lot of good info in it.

Sorry, I recently started getting active on here, will do though. Thanks!

Not a problem... If you still have questions after going through the thread, feel free to shoot me a PM and I'd be more than happy to help you with what I can. 🙂

LOL the anxiety is finally gone and i can enjoy these next few months!

Totally okay - it's just that a lot of people go into great detail on previous pages and that information is pretty valuable. You can also feel free to PM me if you have any questions 🙂

Thanks to all of you who have posted on this forum. My eyes are very tired now after reading through 33 pages...but well worth it!

I was a late applicant and just saw my completion marked on the secondary app site. How long did it take for anyone to get something stating whether or not you were invited for an interview? :xf:

Many people have also previously posted this information. 😀
I believe they called me about a week after all of my LORs were in. I'm sure this can vary greatly. And this was very early on in the application cycle, may be much different now.
Hope this helps! Good luck to you! 👍

I think MU-COM states they like to give you a decision within 2 weeks of being complete (II/hold/rejection). Idk if they're behind on that, but they seem to be pretty good about sticking to that! Good luck!!

Just got the call - accepted!! Good luck to everyone else who interviewed last weekend!

The announcement of the new e-news series was sent to all admitted and deposited students.

Over the next week or so, the portal will be updated to include a new tab: MU-COM DOCTOR. Then the biweekly updates will come through the portal--just as the Advantage Series did.

Anyone with a 25-ish mcat who got in?

Yes, there have been people with a 25-ish MCAT who got in....

The more I read about the program Marian is putting place the more excited I get about it! My secondary was completed on 1-13 so hopefully I hear back soon.

How do I stack up to those of you that have interviewed and/or been accepted? 31Q with around a 3.5 GPA, currently finishing a masters program and have 2000+ hours of clinical and 250+ hours of volunteer experiences.

You look pretty darn competitive to me...think it boils down to how late in the cycle it is, how many spots are available and what they are looking for now. I also don't personally know how competitive the stats are of people who are scoring interviews this late in game. Besides that, I'd say if you fit what MU-COM is looking for, then stat-wise you have a great shot of getting an interview. FYI: Doing well in the interview is HUGE in gaining admission to MU-COM.

Just got the call - accepted!! Good luck to everyone else who interviewed last weekend!

Congrats!!👍

Thanks for the insight! I know I was a little late in applying because of finishing up a research project so just wanted to see what everyone thought my chances were!

Hopefully the committee will look positively upon me attending a Christian college (though not Catholic). I think for me personally, I'm drawn not only to the great academic program Dean Evans has put in place, but also the opportunities for clinical experience that coincides with the didactic learning. I know some people have expressed concern over being the first class at a new school, but it seems like Marian has a very talented and diverse faculty with experience from a variety of schools that absolutely know what they are doing!

I just received an interview invite from Marian today, and I chose February 15th as my interview date! I have skimmed through all 33 pages of this thread, and I am really excited about seeing the campus and going through the MMI process! Good luck to everyone that will be interviewing with me, and I look forward to meeting with everyone!

wait listed-1st quartile👎 ooh well, I will most likely be withdrawing from the wait list if accepted at ATSU-KCOM next week, good luck to everyone else interviewing!!! 🙂

For anyone who interviewed recently...Are they giving folks construction tours of the building now when you go on the campus tour during the interview day, or do you still just only get to see the outside of it?

Tours of the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences (CHS) are reserved [generally] for admitted students. So plan on attending the Admitted Student Program on March 9th for your first look inside!

I was wondering the same thing. I have my final physiology exam on Monday the 11th so I dont know if I will be able to make it either.

How long did it typically take for you guys to be considered Complete after submitting your letters of recommendation?

Not too come across as overly direct and blunt, and before someone else states it, that's been covered before if you read through the thread. 🙂

Seriously though, it was fairly quick after AACOMAS was complete and the LOR's were in, within a matter of a week. It could be longer if someone was waiting for updated scores, but that is no longer applicable.

Ah yes. I'll take a look! Thanks!

Does anyone know if the NAVY HPSP scholarship can be applied to Marian since it only has provisional accreditation?

As far as I know, it can. I know that Army and USAF are accepted and I vaguely remember someone saying on the FB group that they accept from all branches.

I loved that we got the 2nd year fall schedule today 🙂 I can't wait for the winter though, I'm excited to see what type of board prep is planned! 😀 👍

Me too! I can't wait to see what their board prep is going to be. A few other schools I withdrew from had a very extensive board prep in place... hoping MUCOM does, too!! 😍

Another thought from some med student friends, which resonated with me, was that the best board prep their schools gave them was a great first two year curriculum and then time to study on their own. Im sure most schools will have something organized available, but Im also guessing that time is also something they realize we need/want.

To each their own though!

Oh I totally agree. I want to see just how much study time we get, you know? They say "roughly a month of board prep," but how much of that is really time for ourselves I wonder.
