That's really great to hear. I'm glad you enjoyed it and am sure others did as well. For those of us who were not able to attend, would you mind sharing any information you feel we should know? Does the iPad mini announcement mean that is how lecture notes will be provided?
I'm sad you weren't able to make it this weekend! It definitely was nice to be able to meet people, but you will have the opportunity soon enough
🙂
The iPad mini announcement was a random short announcement in the midst of our presentations. Definitely exciting! But people didn't ask any questions about it. I've heard when they are given to other schools, books and lectures etc. will be put on them for students. While not verified that that will be the case for us, something like that would be preferable obviously!
My favorite parts were learning about the curriculum and rotations. We got a brief overview from each of the main course directors (foundations, anatomy, OMM, ICM) where they gave us an idea of what to expect in terms of class objectives, testing schedule, test answer review, etc. We learned about the 21 signed hospital affiliations they have around the state of Indiana, while they also have 13 pending sites.
We got a tour of the building which is nice but still has a long way to go. It looks like it'll be fab though! One thing I thought was cool was in the study rooms there's paint you are able to write on like a whiteboard. Each place in the lecture hall had a plug and internet hookup (though there is also still wireless in the building). There's going to be a cafe in our building too which is something I actually didn't know.
We had a financial aid presentation which was informative but if you know anything about the student loan process it pretty much told you what you should already know. If your FAFSA is completed you should receive an email in a few weeks with how much you will be allotted in federal loans. No scholarships are available at the time but I think they said in the fall they will be fundraising for some.
Overall I thought the entire weekend was amazing. I met a lot of really cool people on both Friday and Saturday (lots of SDNers too
🙂 ) which allowed me to really see myself fitting in at the school. There's definitely a diverse population of people so that's nice.
Another thing that was so nice about this school were the people that put it together. There were professors there who remembered interviewing me, the president who came around and talked to everyone during lunch, and even Bryan Moody who knew me by name even though he met me once over 5 months ago. It shows they really want their class to be successful and feel at home!
Also, if you interviewed last week and got waitlisted try not to feel bad because we were told they only accepted 2 people from last weekend. Looks like the class is pretty full but that doesn't mean there won't be turnover in the next 5 months!
