Marian University (MU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hello everyone,

I was wondering whether MU-COM is receptive to Canadian applicants. On their website, MU-COM states that they take International Student Applicants (see source below). However, I am aware that a number of other schools (PCOM comes to mind) state that they take international students but, for all intents and purposes, do NOT take Canadians.

Also, for any Canadian applicants in this cycle who happen to be posting in this thread, have you received an interview invite? If so, perhaps that reflects the willingness of MU-COM to admit Canadian applicants (if Canadians were to get that far into the application process).

Thank you!

There are Canadians in the incoming inaugural class and I met at least one Canadian applicant when I attended my interview.

Just got a secondary! How much do they go through the primary? How good is this!?!?

Complete email too! Really hoping for an interview here!

So in Marian's letter of recommendation instructions it states that the upload must contain your AACOMAS ID, but I didn't tell any of my letter writers to put my AACOMAS ID on the letters they wrote me. How crucial is this? Is their anyway to get my ID on the upload? I'm using virtualevals if anyone wants to chime in. Thanks!

If you're using Interfolio, there's an option to include your AACOMAS ID in your letters before you send them out.

*Oh my bad I just read that you were using VirtualEvals

Log into VirtualEvals. In the top right corner, click 'My Account'. Find and click on 'Click to update my account details'. Enter your AACOMAS ID (no hyphen), then click 'Update'.

Last year I was so convinced I was supposed to go to this school. I was elated when I received my secondary and my usb broke and even paid over $300 to have it fixed. After all that I was rejected with no interview. One applicant told me they were interviewed and upon asking why they did not get in they were told they were too late to apply and their sgpa was too low.

I am wondering if I should even try again. I got the feeling that they have no give on the science gpa. Does anyone know if someone was offered an acceptenace with a sgpa below 3.2? Mine is above 3.15 but not quite at 3.2.

I realized I had forgotten to attach my aacomas ID to my letters, so I resent them today. Hope they don't get upset at the extra set of letters 🙂

Thanks a bunch!

When your guys letters were verified did all three (science advisor physician) get verified at the same time?

My advisor submitted a packet with all the letters at once and advisor and physician were verified like a week ago and science is still pending...

Nope. 2/3 here too. I emailed them about it and they fixed it... dunno if its required to do so however. *shrug*

yeah all was marked complete within a day. I also had a packet so I am not sure what the deal might have been for you, possibly missing some ID..idk

So I have the science and physician letters marked as complete BUT the advisor isn't because I don't have an advisor so I sent another science letter instead. Anyone else having this issue?

Hey has anyone heard anything from MUCOM today?

Hey has anyone heard anything from MUCOM today?

If you're talking interview wise I bet nothing will happen until next week. Tomorrow is the first day of orientation for first years, so I'm sure they're swamped with dealing with that stuff right now.

waited till the afternoon to see if my letters will get updated.
Still nada.

Phone # they provided for the admission office is always "out to lunch" lol - even at 5PM.
What's a good way to reach them?

Emailing Bryan moody or Kelly
Early is usually an efficient way of doing things. I always get quick responses. But like I said above they're probably swamped with orientation week so they may not be super fast with answering this week!

MUCOM,

I have been marked complete for a few days online, but have not received the "complete" email. concern? system just needs to catch up? thanks

For those interested, we got the stats of our class at orientation today.

MCAT: 26.25
GPA: 3.57

A little over half of the class was from Indiana, with 24 states being represented and 3 international students (1 being from Canada). 51% male 49% female. I want to say high 600s in terms of interviews conducted (sorry this is off the top of my head), 281 of those people received acceptances (so around a 40% acceptance rate post-interview), and 33 people were pulled off the waitlist throughout the year.

Good luck with applying! 🙂

damn, that's a low acceptance rate!

Just wondering, is the class size 150?

I know I was a little surprised. I also thought the number of waitlist pulls would be higher. The class number is 162.

Meows any ideas what role your class will play in the interview process this cycle? Any student interviewers? Meet and greet?

They haven't told us anything yet. I would guarantee we will at least be there to chat with the interviewees. At most every interview I attended, students gave the tour so I would hope we could at least do that. I think there's been talk about students being involved in the interview process (I remember reading it somewhere...), but have no real idea yet. I hope they let us have SOME sort of involvement because I would love to do it!! I'll post when I figure it out.

Holy COW! Those GPA stats are crazy high.

Seeing those stats makes me want an interview here so bad!!!!!!

That's insane actually, I was expecting at best 3.5/25 and a high interview/ acceptance percentage. The fact that a new school managed this tells me MUCOM has something special or last year DO applications saw a massive spike in competition.

I received an email that Marian got my LOR's from Interfolio but it will take a few weeks to verify. Sounds like I'll miss the first round of interview invites.

When is that even lol.

Well, now I'm confused. I received an email stating they received my LOR's but then I received an email that I was incomplete and my application was being placed on hold.

Guess I wait patiently for them to catch up 😎

They take time to process LORs and label you as complete.

Complete. Really interested in visiting Marian to see what it's all about.

I feel like I got the emails in the wrong order hah. It was weird because I first received an email saying I was complete on the 4th and then I received an email today saying that my LORs were added to my application and now need to be screened for completeness. My portal already had my LORs check marked since the 4th too.....so not sure whats going on there.

Anyone know when interview invites might begin being sent out? I know interviews start next month.
