I am a Canadian international holding acceptances at SLU and Jefferson medical schools. I was also accepted at brown but I turned it down because I didn't feel like it was a good fit for me with the students and stuff, so now im choosing between these two. I was wondering if you could shed some light on how to pick between both schools.

This is what I have so far:

SLU slightly cheaper tuition per year ($3,000 cheaper per year)
SLU requires 4 years tuition in escrow, jefferson requires 1 year (borrow less all at once, smaller interest payments for jefferson)
St. Louis cheaper to live in than center city philly
On campus housing for jefferson, none for SLU
SLU tuition doesn't include gym membership, jefferson's does
Center city philly nice and safer to live in
Jefferson Reputation > St. Louis?
H/P/F preclinical grading at jefferson vs P/F at SLU
Jefferson transport system means I can get back to toronto in 2 hours, St. Louis looking at more like 4-5 hours.
Facilities at jefferson nicer than St. Louis.
Jefferson students seem more excited about their program than St. Louis people from what I saw at interview day.
Their match list seems pretty similar (I could be wrong though I don't know how to interpret those at all)
As of new USNWR, st. Louis ranks slightly higher than jefferson (means nothing though I guess).
Jefferson class size is bigger (260 > 170)

Right now my lean is towards jefferson, but honestly I don't know.

Help?

I think this is supposed to be in school specific discussion so If an admin can move it that would be great thanks!

Me too, but any specific reason why that I haven't listed?

Congrats @URMD on your choices!

Ha ha, I just have to note that I remember posting on your previous decision thread, Brown vs. Jefferson. Most people told you to go to Brown and it sounds like you went your own way, which I totally respect. Most of what gets said on these threads is much less useful than your own thoughts.

Anyway, I can't help much either, but I am curious about the finances. Would it be a big hardship for you to take out the full four-year amount and put it in escrow at SLU? Would the additional interest that accrued over your time in school from doing so negate SLU's lower tuition?

Yes this is one of the factors I listed in my OP. I didn't actually do the calculation yet but yes most likely I will save money by going to jefferson because their escrow requirements are less stringent, even though the tuition is higher

Here's the important thing to consider:

Barbecue vs cheesesteak?

Gotta go cheesesteak. Philly is a wonderful city and Jefferson is smack in the middle of it. Never been to St. Louis. It seems to me you're leaning toward Jeff and I say go with your gut (literally. the cheesesteaks in Philly are not overrated).

Ok well it seems like since no1 else has said much in way of my list of pros cons that I have summarized the two schools well enough.
If there's nothing else any1 would like to add regarding the two schools that I could factor into my decision, I'll go with Jeff

If you think you may be interested in ortho, Jefferson is top notch. Otherwise, I'm not really sure, probably just depends on which city you like best and where you could see yourself. Two great options though!

Is it true that jefferson is also top notch for optho? I've heard the Wills Eye institute is world class?

Wills Eye is outstanding but I don't think it is affiliated with Jefferson even though it is in Philly. I could be wrong though, I'm just a fellow accepted student!

I probably would've chosen Brown over both, but it seems that ship has sailed.

Which school has more elective time during the third year? I believe Jefferson is changing to a 1.5 year curriculum, but I don't know if that's actually true or when it's happening.

I just double checked and Wills Eye is indeed affiliated with Jefferson. It's the ophthalmology department / residency program for TJU hospital and I'm pretty sure you can rotate there as a student at Jeff.

This is true but it's not happening until the class of 2020 so it's unlikely to affect op.

they told me at the interview that maximum number of away periods you can have is 6
