University of North Texas (UNTHSC/TCOM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed back in September and when I check my status it says that I'm under review and under it it says that my application is incomplete. It also says that I need to complete the secondary under my ToDo list, but of course I already did that or else I wouldn't have interviewed. Is anyone else having this problem?

so does everybody that interviewed early on (aug/sept) find out about prematch tomorrow or do they send out rolling offers?

Offers are given based on the strength of your application, not time of interview. October interviewers could be matched tomorrow, while an August interviewer may be waiting until February. Such are the joys of applying!

Hoping for tomorrow (10/5/12 interview) but expecting December/February to avoid disappointment

Just keep the faith. The wait is brutal. Take solace in the fact there are thousands in the same shoes as you 🙂

Quoting Col. Sink:

"Today, and as you read this you are enroute to that great adventure for which you have trained for over two years,

TONIGHT... is the night of nights"

I can't wait, I hope TCOM wants me as much as I do want the school :xf:

Good luck everyone!!!

I'm not a troll, just an anxious applicant looking for some hope/diversion in these last 24 hours.

I too am hoping for tomorrow... or December, or February, or July even, as long as it isnt a thin envelope from UNT

Your numbers 3.4/26 are significantly below average. I too am skeptical that TCOM gave you an interview... Not buying it. Sorry.

Yes, the very best of luck to everyone tomorrow! :luck: 😍

Maybe below average for southwestern, but significantly below for UNT mmm not so much.

TCOM's current class is at 3.57/28. Why would TCOM invite a 3.4/26 to lower their stats? From conversations I had and overheard at my interview, the unwritten rule is a below average GPA has to be accompanied by an above average MCAT and vice versa. In this case both numbers are below average, which stretches credulity.

I was just curious about how this thread was going so popped in for the first time. Would have loved to go here but being OOS and not having the time to fill out the TMDSAS this summer (was in rural Africa with no internet) I figured it was a sign to not.
As for the OP with the below average stats, while certainly below average applicants (stats wise) are an anomaly, there are always going to be a few students who impress in other ways. That is why they call them averages.

Meh maybe they saw something in the app, it's just a interview and doesn't guarantee admission. Wouldn't be the weirdest thing med school have done and definitely not unheard of. Frivolous topic anyway I wish you the best of luck all

Keep in mind, the MCAT range for the entering class of 2011 was a 19-42, for 2012 was 22-35. That alone shows huge variation. TCOM prides itself on looking beyond the numbers, so I'm not sure why it would be shocking for a seemingly "below average" applicant to get an interview (below average only in numbers). Chances of pre-matching may not be great though.

yeah, I got an II with a 24 MCAT (9/5/R/10) 3.83 cGPA, 3.91 sGPA.

Congratulations on the OOS acceptance. As someone who struggled himself with verbal, I know how frustrating it can be. After the entire 101 EK passages book, my verbal score in my practice tests hardly improved at all. Look forward to the joy of there being no verbal section on the USMLE 🙂 Anyway, I have my fingers crossed for my fiance so that we can be a happy Dallas family lol 😀

sigh nothing yet. Does your app status change if a decision is incoming?

poor wording on my part. what i meant to ask was if all the prematch offers go out at once (assuming the adcom has met for your interview date) or if they go out at various times over the next 2.5 months

didn't you matriculate at UTSW? If you did, must mean you didn't have too much of a verbal problem....

Eh...I had an 8 in verbal. I even know a guy with a 7 in verbal in my class, so they do consider other factors as well.

well at least it's not just me. Perhaps they haven't been sent out yet. Or we all stink D: D: D:

I heard A&M wasn't going to send out any acceptances today because it was an interview day. Maybe TCOM is the same way?

Interesting. Wasn't last year's pre-match offer day a Tuesday? TCOM interviews Tuesday/Thursday/Friday.

Congratulations on your acceptance! Official notification will be sent you via U.S. Mail.

no words

Still under review.. I assume everyone's status changes at once?

Only one prematch so far on SDN? Interesting

Im sitting by the AED emergency cardiac defibrillator, I hope whoever finds me knows how to push the buttons

Did anyone get an email from them after their premAtch or just status pg? And which status pg ? Tmdsas or tcom portal?

no email or call yet (if i remember correctly from the interview, they said that they try and call everybody personally) the status changed on the tcom portal. the tmdsas website says it lags behind when the schools accept

Fiddlesticks!! Still under review. Congrats to you all that got it!!

Do these come in waves or will they trickle out over the next weeks?

Everyone I know has been prematched already. They all interviewed super early I suppose. That's all I know on my end

Hmm, that's what I would have thought.

Does anyone know if the acceptances come out in waves, or will they trickle out over the next weeks? I recall someone saying there's a rush of them in December for October interviews, but i'm not sure.
