University of North Texas (UNTHSC/TCOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You should also know that TCOM will be P/F for the Class of 2020, and that OMM exam questions are worth 8 "points" because you get 1 point just for showing up to class. By doing this, they make getting an exam question correct more valuable than sitting in lecture. OMM exams are also really easy and have a class average of over 90%, so don't worry about them.

Hey LChristmas, thanks for the advice. Are you a current TCOM student? I have a couple specific questions about the school, and was wondering if we could chat in more detail (either by skype, phone, or email) at some point this or next week?

The application has been reviewed status has been implicated as a form of rejection in and of itself.

So if we have already interviewed and our status says : 'Your application is under review' and then below that 'Your application is complete.' .... we're still in the running right? Sorry for the confusion.

Yes I'm a current student. I would be happy to answer any question you have if you PM me on here.

Yes, you're fine.

Yes.

Ya man i dont know what to tell you. Also forgot to mention I am a URM. Im ok with the rejection, just kind of wierd for it it to come this early. Wasnt expecting it at all

Thats insane? I dont see any reason for them to reject you. You stats are above average especially if you are URM. Can you think of anything else that took you out of the running? Like no enough healthcare exposure, not sociable, didn't know DO in interview? Im stunned you got denied and I feel for you!

Well, I am OOS and my application still says "Your application has been received". I've been complete since 7/2 so I'm going to assume this is a silent rejection.

I'm not very surprised though. I knew it was a longshot and applied anyways since I've been living in Texas for a little bit (but for tuition purposes I'm still OOS, long story) and because I have extensive experience regarding osteopathic medicine.

I'm going to just assume the same. I'm IS but I was complete 6/15 so I'd bet I'm out of luck here

Same IS, complete since 7/1. LizzyM 67 looking like a silent rejection 🙁

I wouldn't say that yet, this school seems to have little rhyme or reason to who they send interviews to and when. The application will say "reviewed" if you get rejected.

Keep in mind that prematch offers won't start coming out until November 15th, so it's going to be awhile until anyone IS gets good news. Expect silence until then.

Admission director told me on my interview day that it would a couple weeks after October 15th for out of state offers.
Yeah I also interviewed in August and seemed to recall them saying that they would in fact give some OOS acceptances on Oct 15th.

So for those who applied late and have a low MCAT who feel like they have no chance... TMDSAS submitted mid Sept., secondary complete early Oct., received II (online, no call yet).
High GPA, 2 MD letters + committee letter, non-trad, no direct DO experience, unbalanced MCAT

High GPA, 2 MD letters + committee letter, non-trad, no direct DO experience, low score on the PS section of the new MCAT, high verbal.

EDIT: Also by low, I mean LOW. Not SDN LOW, but you shouldn't have applied this cycle low. On the opposite end is my verbal score. I used part of the secondary to explain my low MCAT.

Yeah what is going on with this school? I have an AVG MCAT for the school, AVG GPA for the school, DO experience, and a graduate degree. My app was complete in June. No II. sigh

Interviews go on for a while. I wouldn't be freaking out just yet. Plenty of my classmates interviewed in December and then matched in February.

My post wasn't meant as an affront to anyone who did not yet get an II. It was more so meant as a message of hope to late applicants. Other than those 2 factors (late and low P/S section), I'm generally a very strong applicant. My personal statement also resonates strongly with a DO framework, although not intentional, which I realized after tying it into my secondary.

I'm a little confused about the wording of the status on the website based on everyone's comments. Does 'This application is Complete.' mean that my application is 'under review' or will it change to 'under review' on the process has begun? I'm OOS who submitted my secondary 9/21, however my DO letter just went in last week. not sure if this makes a difference.

Thanks for the assistance!

Thank you! 🙂

No worries I think many of us who turned our stuff in really early are just confused with how they are picking interviews at this point. I've gotten interviews at other schools, but I would really like to get the chance to interview here.

You need to look at what it says on top of the table, not under.

Your application is under review. <- - - - - here, what does it say for you?

How i understand it is there is a "this is complete section" that never changes. There is another section above that which says "received" which will change to "reviewed".

Yeah mine says received, which to me means they haven't even looked at it yet, despite being done in June.

Yes, my status is post-interview.

I went from received, to interview invite, to under review. I understand that "reviewed" is generally a rejection.

Thank you for responding so quickly! It says

"Your application has been received. Please check your "to do" list for any outstanding items." (And I have no outstanding items). So I guess I am okay and should be thankful that my status is not reviewed.

Thank you for all your help!

Well I hope that isn't the case or you get into another school. Good Luck!

No problem, that status simply means that no decision has been made. It cannot really tell you anything, other than you are still in the running.

Thanks, I am still Under Review, so fingers crossed!

Did you get the email? When did you interview?
I have not received an email yet, but my portal says 'Congratulations! You have been admitted. Formal notification will be sent by mail.'

Has anyone received an actual email/phone call yet?

I really like this school Can't wait till Nov 15th! Could be the best birthday of my life or the worst lol

Hey yall..for those who got an interview...how soon did you get an interview agenda...and were you able to receive an email confirmation? Also, who was your contact person in the TCOM admissions office?
