yea I sent them another quick update email yesterday with spring grades, why i STILL want to go to wake, and details about the culmination of my undergrad research.

Did you send it to the medadmit e-mail address? That's what I used, but don't recieve a confirmation about them getting it either time I used it....is there a better e-mail to use?

congrats mad evans!!

i have sent 2 LOI's and called twice as well (unfortunately I don't really have any updates). when I called again yesterday she asked if I am on other waitlists (anwer: yes) and if I had any acceptances (answer: no)--not sure exactly what she was fishing for??

still hoping and waiting!!

Hey Guys....sorry, forgot to answer the questions...I was notified by email (not sure what time cuz I'm on the west coast) but it was there when I woke up. I am still waiting to hear from OHSU, quite possibly the worlds SLOWEST school, but if I don't get in there then yes I am stoked about attending Wake. I sorta would like to stay in the same time zone as my fam (I'm from Cali), but I think NC would be an amazing adventure 🙂

what number are you guys using to call the school. Everytime i call the general admission number the ladies who answer the phone never have anything helpful to say to me. Are you specifically calling the Dean or Associate Dean of Admissions?

Thanks! and Good luck to everyone.

I called today and they told me I'm in the top half of the waiting list... this really scares me... is this a bad position to be in at this point?

Was just accepted off the waitlist! I interviewed in late January, was waitlisted in early February, and sent a letter of interest a few days after being waitlisted.

I just got told to call back around the 1st of June for rankings.

balls

I think it really depends on who you talk to in there... I'm just scared that top half is pretty bad... i mean.. i guess its better than bottom half, but I'd feel much better hearing "top third"

I was also told they pump out a few names at a time, and they will check to see if you're on the list.

what do you mean? Like there are several waiting lists?

Not quite. I interpreted it like they have a very short list of the 'accepted people' as voted by the committee that they inform as spots open.

Yeah...I was told I was in the top third and to inform them if I had other acceptances that I would turn down in favor of Wake...otherwise check back in June for an update of where I stand

So... do you guys think that my position is good or bad? I have no idea what to take from it all..

top 1/2 is better than the bottom 1/2. That's funny, because when I called recently, they wouldn't tell me where I stand. But it seems like they do come up with short lists of people newly accepted off the waitlist and even more acceptances will be issued soon. :xf:

So, I guess if the list is unranked, that my position on the list is just how I have been voted on compared to others. So the decision to admit or deny is at the discretion of the dean of admissions?

Wake is my first choice, I really hope this ends up well.

Ok so I just called the office to try and milk some info and said something like this:

"Hi my name is blah blah, and I was wondering if there is any way I can get aaaannnyyy information on my standing. I know y'all are busy, but I stand to lose a deposit at another school tomorrow..."

So then the nice lady looked me up, and paused. At that point I knew is wasn't good news. After some thought on her side, she told me to keep my other med school spot for now. Burn. She then quickly added that I am in the top half!!

She also told me they "don't rank their wait list" which makes zero sense to me since didn't she just give me a ranking, top half? Sorry for the long post all, I'm just venting.

Maybe you're in the top half if you've expressed any interest (e.g. letters, phone calls)...but then after that you're basically ranked by your stats and how your interviewers ranked you...who knows.

I checked a previous thread from 2007 and several people were told "top half" also. Most were accepted in mid june... You can go and look on the 2007 wake thread, I would like it but I'm on my blackberry.

Just got in off the waiting list today!!! It is my first acceptance and I am very excited!! Good luck all of you still waiting. Be persistant!

iCONGRATS!

Accepted off the waitlist today! Email at 12:15pm eastern. Really excited, but now I've got a decision to make, Wake vs. NYU, any input is appreciated, even loaded input from those on the waitlist at wake 😛

Sent in an update letter addressed to Dr. Nelson early last week. Called to confirm it arrived and I was told that Dr. Nelson was out all last week and that he would see it first thing today, guess it worked out!

Good luck to all!

Congrats, Scean! I had a feeling the good luck would keep coming for you. You're right, though...now it gets sticky.

i called the ADCOM office and they told me I was in the "middle of top half" of the waitlist...what does that mean? people who got off the waitlist, what was your "rank" when you called them? hopefully, it was near the "middle of top half"...haha

i'm crossing my fingers....

Congrats Scean! Tough choice!

What is your gut feel? NYC vs W-S .... Bellevue vs WFUBMC ... ????

Okay, am I the only one having a hard time finding out my "ranking" on their alternate list? I'm never told anything, no matter how much I squeeze.

Maybe that means I'm on the bottom half? (it's progressively easier to be pessimistic during this process, huh?!)

Thanks everybody, I went from freaking pumped to "s**t what am I gonna do?" In about 30 seconds when I heard.

Lakers86: I called a couple of times last week, once to just "check-in" and ask about WL status, and once to confirm my update arrived in the right place. I was not told my rank either time, so I really don't know what to tell you. All I can guess was that I was somewhere near the top, but not the TIP TOP since they couldn't tell me anything nor did they hint at anything when I called last week. I needed my letter to be read today by Dr. Nelson to push me over the top.

Classic: I really have NO clue at this point. I mean Wake definitley has some of the comforts of home (GA born and raised here), but NYC could be a new and exciting adventure. The cost is relativley equal, I suppose I could wait on financial aid and try to get some money out of one? As of right now the lists look like this:

NYU:

NYC in my 20's - something I will never get to do again, I want to eventually settle somewhere in the southern half of the US relativley close to my parents, so this really is my one and only chance to get out there and wing it.

Bellevue - the oldest pubilc hospital in america (PRE america est. 1736!). An epic venue for a clinical education. Being a public hospital it DEPENDS on its medical students which means some extra scut, but ALOT of extra experience as well.

True P/F first and second year

Same technological curriculum perks as Wake, online database of lectures, powerpoints, audio, etc. Old school anatomy lab though.

Wake:
A bit closer to home (6 hour car ride might cost the same in time and money as a well-forseen plane ticket from NYC to ATL though huh?)

Could potentiallyt take my dog with me (though she'd be very happy with my parents, and my parents happy to have her)

D-1 Athletic teams good at footbal AND basketball - sweet

Excellent technology, the anatomy lab is really awesome, and who can argue with a free laptop - 😀

They are both great schools with compariable costs, but everything else about them is completely different.

Anybody else out there with good news today?? 👍

EDIT: SBWALTON: I specifically asked if I was "ranked" when I called and they said I could call "later" and find out, but at the same time people on this forum had already been told, so don't count yourself down and out just yet.

So you need to make sure you are talking to Irene Tise. Also, say that you have been told that you would be able to find out your relative ranking. I am not sure why they switched from 'thirds' to 'halves' in the ranking system, but I think they will give you at least SOME information.

Good luck, I know waiting is THE WORST!!

hey sbwalton, i received an email that stated,"lakers86MD, you are in the top third in a good position"....so i think you should email them about your waitlist rank.

hopefully, I will hear good news this week.

wait, i'm confused... you mean i should e-mail them about my waitlist rank?

ooh, i meant you should email wake's adcom..not me...sorry for the typo

Just withdrew my offer of acceptance 🙁, so someone else here will hopefully hear some good news soon.

so it seems like everything has been quiet since monday, at least on sdn. Has anyone called and gotten any information on when the waitlist will see some more movement?

they are still saying the same things... they cant really predict when the next movements will be. The lady i spoke with told me i was in the top 1/3 of the alt. list and asked if i had been accepted to any other schools.. which i have. I am accepted at Medical College of Georgia and West Virginia University and she told me to email medadmit as soon as possible and inform them of my acceptances and that i still wanted to attend Wake.. so im keeping my fingers crossed i guess.

I'll be withdrawing my acceptance to Wake on Tuesday. I already called and told them, but it will be "official" Tuesday when I email medadmit formally.

Good luck everyone!! Wake is an awesome school and I really had a difficult time deciding to withdraw.

Thanks for the info.. congrats on the NYU acceptance btw.

So... I wonder if this order that they give us moves in order? I mean.. if I was in the top half two weeks ago, shouldn't I be close to the top third now?

and if i was in the top third.. shouldnt i be in the... TOP!? 😎 We can only hope! I'm pretty sure the list moves though.. depending on how many people email/call and speak with people and kiss *****.

apparently Irene is out of the office until June 1.

this makes me really upset (to say the least).

Really? Does this mean the wait list doesn't move?

I'm not sure. I do know that the dean is the one making the decisions, maybe another secretary will be doing the notifications once he comes to a decision?

Maybe that is the case. I was in the top third a month ago. I called Irene last week and she said that she couldn't disclose any more information other than I'm still in the top third and the waitlist moves every week until the day class starts. I wish someone could just state the relative chances of getting in.

The waitlist moves! I just received an e-mail today that I got in!!!!!!!!!

Hope all you waiters get in soon!

FYI I was never able to squeeze out any information about where I was in the rankings, so I can't really help there....

Good luck!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Acceptance e-mail today.....Waitlisted in november and was told at the beginning of May I was somewhere in the top 3rd of the list. Now the decision between Wake ($160,000+) and ECU ($40,000) begins.

wow.. you're fortunate to have such huge financial differences in your choices. Thats really nice.. i wish i had that.

Thanks....its crazy that a few weeks ago I was getting ready to reapply. I come out 50/50 every time I weigh the pros and cons though...any opinions?

Also...good luck to everyone else on the waitlist. I know how crappy it is to be stuck waiting. I started my interviews in October and heard nothing until mid May.

hey guys, I too was accepted off wake's waitlist, but I decided to go attend ECU because of it's cheap instate tuition. I couldn't justify paying $250,000+ interest in loans over ECU's 40k. hope everyone on the waitlist good luck.

yeah i'm with ya on that one Ncguy... if i had the option between wake at $250K+ and ECU at less than 50K i'd definitely go with ECU.. Wake's a great education but i dunno if you can justify it being over $200k better than ECU's... i hope I get into wake for a number of reasons but that would be an easy decision for me personally. In all likelihood I will be comparing a $250K education at wake to a $200K+ OOS school education thats not as prestigious... so the money factor isnt really there for me. I live in Georgia and didnt get into Emory so its either an OOS school or hold my breath for wake. Eeeek. Best of luck in your decisions! You'll be happy wherever you end up, they're both wonderful schools.

Does anyone know where we can find the class profile for Wake Forest's class of 2012? They only have 2011 and 2010 on their website... I'd be interested to know how many people were pulled off the waitlist last year.
