when I was there on my interview the students that took us on the tour told us it was about 40-50%... and then i think i got a letter from wake saying about the same.

So, I normally don't post-- but I wanted to let everyone know that I was accepted off of the waitlist today. It is my first acceptance (I only applied to 6 schools) so I'm extremely happy 🙂 Went to Wake as an undergrad...

I'm a teacher and I couldn't even finish teaching the rest of the day...sooo excited!!! my principal, students, and coworkers were sad to hear the news but i was doing this...:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

I remember you I think.... November 5th interview day?

I'm thinking of calling the admissions office again to ask about my position on the waitlist. I've already called twice and if I call this week, that would be that my calls have all been about a week apart. Is it too frequent? I was never told even what half I am in (is that a bad sign?)

I have been faced with the same dilemma. How much do I call? Moreover, I have a twin brother who is calling WF to get information for himself as well. There is always that concern that you might be "annoying" them. I try resist all my urges and call every two weeks. As far as your placement, it seems that who you talk to is the most important in finding out that information.

haha i'm in the same boat as both of you.. I want to call so badly I cant stand it. Its good to put some calls in but you definitely do not wanna call to much. So for the time being i'm resisting as long as possible.. I'll prolly hold out until late next week before calling if i havent heard something by then.

Do you guys think there will still be considerable movement before July?

No, but don't forget we still have June and a day of May left. So, hopefully we'll hear something next week.

Sorry... I meant, I think there is a good bit of movement before July... I thought you were asking was there a lot of movement in July...

Lets hope to hear something next week...

Thanks ncguy! I was like "Aw man.." I certainly do hope we hear something this week. I think it's time we all got in!

called today....was told i was towards the bottom of the top half. 🙁

what does that mean?! prob no chance right?

Well... I was told I was somewhere in the top half on May 13th, I could have been at the bottom then too... I have no idea where I stand as of now. I'll call later and find out. Good luck to you though.

Yeah I called today and received no new information other than I'm in "good standing." I wish I asked what portion of the top third/half I am in. I just hope they receive a bunch of withdrawals this year so the waitlist keeps moving. It seems that in previous years there was a considerable amount of acceptances after May. Hopefully, the same is true for this year.

I did the same. They told me I basically have no chance. Whatever

Wow! Sorry that sounds really harsh. I hope you get in another school!

I'm already in at my state schools, but I was still holding out some hope for Wake. I'll think of this as closure.

Yeah, I can see that. Even though I got into VCU SOM, I would like to hear back from Wake and have some closure. If I get in, I will of course accept and end this waiting.

Was told I'm in the bottom of the top 1/3.... I'm not sure thats a good place to be at this point. I guess time can only tell....

It turns out that's where I am. They made it sound really bleak on the phone, though. Must be a pretty big waitlist.

Because I feel like I don't have my facts straight I have deleted this comment. The last thing I want is to cause more problems for people. Sorry.

Yikes, now I really wonder what "good standing" means.

let me get something straight chemnerd. when I had pm'ed you, you had stated "I was told that I was "pretty far down" on the list. I assumed bottom half. She then asked if I had other acceptances, and that I shouldn't be making plans to attend Wake because my chances aren't that good. She also expected decreased movement each week."

now tell me, how is what you wrote to me == you being on the bottom of the top 1/3 ???? irene told you you had no chance after telling you that you were on the bottom of the top 1/3?

its really a tough time for us all, and by purposely misleading me or anyone else on this thread, you really come off as an incredibly disappointing human.

It wasn't my intention to mislead anyone, I called yesterday after an initial email wasn't answered. On the phone, I was told that I was "pretty far down." The email was answered later, stating the same thing, but with top third added in. It confused me too, because they made it sound like I'm in bad shape. I wasn't told bottom half, that's just what I assumed from the assessment of my chances that I received. Being on the bottom of the top third at this point may not mean a good chance of acceptance because I was told they don't expect a lot of withdrawals in the future.

Please think before you throw insults around.

i've read from previous year's post that after may, all the decisions are in the hands of Dr. Nelson, so calling won't help. also, from previous years, there's about 5-8 people after June that get off the waitlist.

so stay positive.

Do you mean they gave 5-8 more acceptances or 5-8 people in the incoming class who were accepted after June?

incoming class..check the 2012 thread for more information (that's what one MS3 medical student stated)

Plus that's just from sdn. There is no telling what will happen. Check the c/o 2011 thread. Nodumbblonde found out she was in the bottom third almost two years ago today. A week later she was accepted. The people in admissions are probably being very cautious because they can't be 100 % accurate and tell you you will or won't. And like the previous person said: who gets in at this point is at the discretion of the dean od admissions...

I can't believe I wrote this reply on my blackberry...haha

called today... doesn't look like i'm getting in either

Yeah my twin called today and was told we were in the middle to bottom of the top third. Needless to say, we were really disappointed. Ncguy, might be right about the admissions people being cautious and I hope you are. I think it would be awesome if we all got in and could end this thread 🙂 I'm tired of checking all the time!

I think so too. I thought by this time more people would hear good news.

notified of acceptance yesterday. will be attending.

congrats 👍

also, wtf? why is it that some of you guys are getting really pessimistic/cautious waitlist information from Irene, whereas whenever I talk to her, she is pretty darn ambiguous. What am I doing wrong!!!???

Maybe you're higher up on the waitlist than the rest of us, but she's being ambiguous because she can't guarantee that you'll get in?

at one point recently, she said i was around top 1/2. a few people on this thread (you, ncguy, chem, roanoake) seem to have been given a much more pessimistic waitlist status (i.e being told that it doesnt look too good) after being told your position (i.e top 1/2 or 1/3 as well). she was just straight up ambiguous with me when i spoke to her last friday. i dont get it!!!

I haven't spoke to Irene once about my previous waitlist status, but it sound like the ambiguity is a good thing. Think about it: she can't tell you that you are in a good spot until you have the acceptance letter in hand. If she told everyone with a decent shot that they had a decent shot, there would bound to be some upset people when they didn't get in. I would take it as a good sign, but not a guarantee. Like I said though I never knew my waitlist 'position'.

Also, do we know how they draw from the waitlist? Are they looking for similarity to withdrawn applicant when choosing next accepted? Are they looking for something else all together? Are we all just numbered? These are all factors that should be taken into consideration when trying to interpret why she is being ambiguous. With all this speculation being stated, good luck. I had no clue my acceptance was coming when it did so keep up hope.

I also never knew my waitlist position. Didn't call to check but I would tend to think that ambiguity is better...I've also wondered about the way that they pull from the waitlist. I know for sure that UNC tries to match applicant to applicant, but I'm not too sure about Wake.

Ditto on not losing hope...I wasn't even expecting an acceptance at all this cycle. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you all. :xf:

I don't think they take it in order from who is at the top of the list. I believe it is most likely similar to UNC's waitlist system.

I just got the call today! I emailed them earlier this week about my position on the waitlist and they said I was in the "top third of the top third". I never called before about my position, so I have no idea where I was in May. If Wake is where you want to be, make sure you let them know! I sent 2 LOIs as well as called. Good Luck!

Also, this is my 2nd cycle of applying, so never give up even if you dont get accepted this year!

Just got an e-mail telling me that I have the top spot on the waitlist and to see if I'm still interested. I declined the position, although if it weren't for the fact that I bought a house in the city where I will be attending med school I would totally go to Wake.

Good luck to everyone!

So you were told you was at the top of the waitlist, or were you accepted today?

Congrats though!

Sorry, should have clarified that a little better. In the morning I got an e-mail saying I was at the top of the waitlist and would be accepted next, should a spot become available. They wanted to know if I was still interested, maybe because I interviewed in November and only wrote a LOI right after I was waitlisted (nothing since, like some of the people on this thread say they have). I was at work all day and when I got off I had a voicemail saying I was accepted, they move quick. I e-mailed them back declining the position.

I did think it was weird that they e-mailed me wanting to know if I was interested before I was even accepted.

When I was accepted, they called first. I was taking a nap so they left me a message. The message had the same flavor of "Just calling to see if you are still interested....". When I called back they told me I had been accepted.
