Hey all,

I've been complete since 9/4. I HAVE NOT received any form of email from BU except for the completion email. Most of the people on SDN have received the "be patient" emails, but I have not..

Does that mean anything.....?

Hmm..I doubt it means anything. Try not to worry about it! To encourage others out there: I was complete on 8/15 and got an interview invite a few days ago (10/31) so have hope!

did anyone else get this email yesterday?

It has been quite some time since we sent you a notice indicating that your application was complete and had been referred to our Committee on Admissions for review. While our Committee is accustomed to reviewing a very large volume of applications, this year we have seen an unprecedented number of applications that have completed early in the cycle. It appears that we will be able to interview only about 10% of our applicants this year, so these reviews are quite challenging. As a result, we are running several weeks behind.

I regret the fact that we have not been able to take action on your application as yet, but I want to assure you that we are moving as quickly as we can and that there will be no penalty for the delay in our processing. Applicants who are selected for interview are invited in chronological order by date of application completion, not by date of review. If our Committee on Admissions concludes that we can invite you for an interview and campus visit, we will get it done!

Please accept our apology for any inconvenience caused by our extended review of your file. We expect to complete our evaluation quite soon, and wish you success with all your applications.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Witzburg, M.D.
Associate Dean and Director of Admissions

I'm interviewing this week, I was wondering at what time our interviews actually take place? Are they in the morning or the afternoon? Thanks!

On my day they had them all in the morning after a short presentation. Good luck! :luck:

did anyone recently get an interview invite with dec 3rd as an option? lol just curious as i canceled my interview for that day and rescheduled

i was complete on oct seven.

so it seems that they are doing relatively well with processing in order of completion... hopefully we will hear back soon. only interviewing 10% of applicants sounds like such a small number...

Can someone post

# of applicats/# of interviews/#of acceptances/#of seats available for BU ?

Also, is January 15th the date for acceptances?

Thanks a bunch

I was rejected about a month after completion. I thought/hoped BU was kinda within my reach. I know it's all a mystery, but might someone have some guesses? Is it just that I submitted so late? Are they very research-intensive?

So... I've been complete since early Sept... and still status is "complete". Just uploaded an update to them (AWESOME feature... wish every school did it this way). Anyway... wondering if anyone else is in the same boat ?

Yep--complete since the end of August and still waiting...

We must really be standing right on the line between interview and rejection for them to be so unsure about what to do with us.

did any of you receive an email regarding the delay in decision? If so, did you send an update letter?

i got an update from them the other day saying that they got more applicants than previous years and they're only interviewing 10% of applicants this year - I think that's lower than previous years? i'm hoping it won't skew the trend away from me, i thought BU was just within in my reach...

I got that e-mail too and like 4 days later I got my interview invite!! Yay! I am so excited!! 😀

From what Dean Witzburg said on the interview day:
11,000 applicants
1,000 interviews
320 acceptances
168 seats (from 2009-2010 MSAR)

I have written down that January 10, 2009 is the first day they will send out notifications, but that's a Saturday, so I'm not sure.

:luck: :luck: :luck:

Actually, it's much less than 168 seats for traditional applicants...there are a bunch of 7-year students as well as GMS. So, if it's 320 acceptances, thats for around 110 seats.

Just got an interview invite today! Hurray! I was complete back near the end of August, so it has been a long wait. 😀

Me too! Interview @ BU??? ! OMG. I'm astounded. (Complete since 9/5 here).

Just got that delay e-mail today. For anyone else who got this e-mail, how long did it take for them to give you a decision on your application after getting this delay message.

There was slightly more than two months between the delay message and an interview invite for me. I guess that's a bit extreme.

So on interview day they said to update letters onto the status page for thank you/interest...my interview was a couple weeks ago but I never did that...should I do it now? Is it going to be perceived as lack of interest?

I actually have the same question... My interview was about two weeks ago as well. I will send a thank you letter to my interviewer this week. However, I remember Dr. Witzburg saying not to send a letter of interest now?? Correct me if I'm wrong, I really not sure. Any suggestions????

Yes, do not send letters of interest soon after your interview. Or better yet, don't send them unless you really mean them, and if you do send them, it should be sometime right before committee starts meeting. These letters of interest can hurt you as well as make it better so it better be well thought out.

So I got another interview invite on the East Coast that I would not do if I got into Boston University. I could save a lot of money if I just knew what was going on with my BU application.

This in mind, I called the admissions office to ask if there was any way to find out my application status. My inquiry was met with a snappy response and a "we told you that you won't hear until January". Whatever you do, don't ask them for info over the phone. Even if they could save you hundreds of dollars by giving you a status update, they won't.

I just hope they don't put a negative mark on my application file for asking them...

Yeah, that's a sucky part of the waiting, I feel your pain. But, to be fair, Dr. Witzburg made it pretty clear that the committee doesn't meet to make the first decisions until Jan, so it's not a matter of their being obstinate - they don't have a decision to give you, and are hardly going to meet early to decide on one just for you. Too bad about the snappiness though. Maybe you can just schedule the other interview for late Jan and cancel it if you get into BU in the first round?

I didn't remember him saying that they don't even meet until that late. I just figured that there had to be some turn-around of application since October. I scheduled the interview but won't purchase airline tickets until I hear from BU.

If applying to medical schools teaches you one thing, it's patience.

Good luck everyone

INDEED. Good luck to you too. 🙂

Does Boston University offer feedback on your application? Sorry if this has been asked before.

The admissions committee starts meeting this week to review about 600 applicants that were interviewed. As I'm sure Dr. Witzburg said, very few (maybe around 60-80) will get accepted this round, with most being deferred until March decision, and some being rejected now. The first round decisions will come out in beginning/mid january. Depending on who you had for interview, your interviewer may call you the day/night before the decisions come out to congratulate you on your acceptance.

I'm not totally sure, but knowing Dr. Witzburg, he'd probably meet with you to discuss your application, but only after the whole process is over. The man is so ridiculously busy, and I just don't even understand how he has time for everything that he's involved in, including being involved with the student body.

Well I just got an email saying to update my contact information. Looks like we'll be hearing something soon!!!

Now I'm nervous :scared:!!!!!

I got the same email. However, I'm on a hold until I submit grades from this semester, so take it as you will.

how did you get your hold message?

as for the update info, a rejection after contact update would be mucher harder to bear than a plain rejection... hoping for the best nevertheless...

Just got the contact update e-mail too. Still haven't heard anything from BU about my status. Does anyone think they are done with interview invites? I haven't seen any reported in a while.

for everyone who received the email (i did too), when did yall submit/be complete? i feel like this happened before, but with people who submitted earlier than me. hoping that its just that they are barely getting to us!

I received this email today for the first time and I interviewed at the end of October. I think they're just getting ready for the first batch of admissions notices in January.

grrrrrrreat. so i guess i'm getting rejected, after feverishly checking my status almost every week day since i was complete in september. yay.

You shouldn't assume that. They continue interviewing into January and February, and in fact only a few people will be getting acceptances next month. Most decisions are deferred until they've finished interviewing in March. So don't lose hope yet!
