Well that's not what beachblonde said, and I certainly hope it's not crucial to have it. I sent it this morning without my voter reg. card and it's due in 2 days. I mean, they have my tax information, my parents' tax information, my VA driver's license, and my car registration. Do they really need a voter registration card in addition to all of this?

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens in a couple days when they get my application.

Listen, all I'm telling you is what they told me and they told me my application was incomplete until I sent in the voter registration card. I don't know why they would say it's ok for some people and not for others unless they just happened to overlook for some people by accident.

It won't be complete until you either 1) send in a copy of the card or 2) send in an explanation for why you don't have it.

I literally wrote last year "I lost my voter registration card due to wallet theft" on a piece of paper and sent it to them. They accepted it without a problem.

Thanks guys for the responses. I guess I'd better call tomorrow and see what they want me to do. Tomorrow is my deadline, so I've got to have it in. I did not send an explanation with my materials. 🙁 Maybe I can fax them a copy of my online voter registration status (can be found here: https://www.voterinfo.sbe.virginia.gov/PublicSite/PublicMain.aspx).

hey i just got an interview invite at evms and am really excited about it since ive heard really good things about the school...i was wondering whether anybody who is more familiar with the school/area knew whether it is possible to get there using public transportation? they only have driving directions on the site, which is unfortunate for me since i don't have a car 🙁 did they just overlook it or is it impossible to take the bus/train? ill be coming from philly. thanks for any help!

congrats! i just got an invite today too. what day did you pick? you can take greyhound to hampton and they have public transit but not sure if it goes directly to evms.

also a lot of the other schools have said that current students will offer to host an interviewee for the night. it didn't say anything about that in the email, but maybe worth checking out on the evms website

sweet interview invites. I kind of wish mine wasn't so early because I'm a little worried i won't be contacted by other schools before I would possibly have to make a decision.

That should work. I did that last year because I couldn't find my original card and they accepted it.

In other news, I just got my invite today and I'm scheduled for 9/10. Last time I took a cab from the hotel I was staying at and it was only a few bucks to get to the school.

Cool, thanks. I just printed that out, typed up a quick letter, and mailed it off to them today. I hope they'll still accept it even though today was my official deadline. :scared:

I would send Mary Castora an email letting her know it's on the way, just in case...

i've always heard that the standard procedure is to accept wherever you get in first and if you get in to a school that you prefer later you rescind your acceptance at the first school and accept at the second. our pre-med advisor said schools expect this, just don't let it go on too long being "enrolled" at more than one school. hope thats helpful, and congrats on your interview!

Anyone know if it is postmarked within 30 days or in their hands within 30 days?

Anyone know if it is postmarked within 30 days or in their hands within 30 days?

They said everything has to be "received" within 30 days, so I think that means in their hands. I wonder how strict they are with this deadline. If you need a few more days you can probably call and see if they'll give you a small extension.

I scheduled an interview for early september, but have not received an email confirming that time, has anyone else received an email confirmation?

I'm not sure what you are talking about. When I received my interview invite it said to call to schedule the date. So I called and scheduled. They didn't mention anything about a follow up email or anything to me. I assumed calling and talking to the person was the confirmation.

anyone know how to get to EVMS via public transportation?

Where are you coming from? There are plenty of taxis you can catch from wherever you're staying to the school. Also, if you're living at a hotel like the Sheraton Waterside, they can take you free by using their shuttle. I'm not sure about other hotels. With regards to buses and such, I would say don't even bother trying... bus stops are hard to find and it's especially hard to locate stops in a new location. Taxis are fairly inexpensive and you don't travel a lot in small city like Norfolk.

ah i see...but i mean how do i even get down there via bus/train/plane? im coming from ny

Well, I interviewed from California so I can't say what the best way is for you to get here from NY. I would say fly if you have the monetary means. I'm sure you can drive (it's a long one) or you can take a bus or a train... but flying will always be simplest. If you do fly, you fly into ORF. I believe Southwest has some good pricing.

they aren't strict i emailed them and they said it's more like a guideline

So I read the original posts saying character limit was about 700 characters. However, I started filling in the pdf application, and it was letting me to past the area given, creating a scrollbar on the side of my essay.

So does anyone know if EVMS has a strict character limit they want us to stick to??????? Mine's due in 4 days so quick responses would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

when does this school notify you of the secondary? my AMCAS was verified at the beginning of August and this is only school I haven't heard from. I've done all my secondaries but haven't even received word from this school. I just want them to pre-secondary screen me out in order to consider myself done.

I have the same issue. I've been verified for a while now and have heard from every other school for secondaries except EVMS. I was considering calling them this week to inquire. Even other screened schools have sent me some sort of confirmation by now. Maybe they have a queue of verified AMCAS applications to review? 😕

It took almost a month after I was verified for me to get the EVMS secondary (verified 7/9, received 8/7)... they just are a little slow.

i was verified on 7/30 and EVMS hasn't given me their secondary..maybe i won't get one from them. 🙁

few travel questions... i was wondering how far the school is located from the airport? i'll be done around 2:45pm and am planning for a flight at 4pm (no checking in)... is this do-able?

Hey all! I'm a deferred applicant from the 2007-2008 application year, so I'll be a member of the class of 2013. I've lived in Hampton Roads nearly my entire life, and would be glad to answer any questions (PM or forum) about the area, or my application experience at EVMS (and other schools). Good luck!

calgirl-airport is about 15 min. away. I think it is do-able, but you'll definitely be pushing it and won't have room for many hiccups.

hey guys, I was about to submit my secondary when I noticed on their website it says that we were suppose to submit a special Recommendation Form along with our letters of references. But some of my referees are no longer available (out of country/sabbatical) so, do any of you know if this form is a requirement?
Thanks!

It is not, I got an interview at EVMS without using it. I have not used one of those forms yet for any school. I am pretty sure in all cases it is optional. I send my LORs for interfolio and tack on my AAMC ID onto it, so far so good.

Interviewed at EVMS today. I'll write a detailed review tomorrow, but all I have to say is that I was beyond impressed with absolutely every aspect of the school!

I applied here. Haven't received secondary yet, but it looks too long. I'm not sure if I'll bother with those 5 essays...

There's my feedback. If you have any other questions, I'll totally glad to answer. The day was so much fun, and everybody - including all of the seventeen other interviewees - was great.

I think my interview went really well. After I had asked my questions, we chatted about the school and how UVA and VCU are a little hostile toward EVMS. Didn't realize that, but it doesn't really surprise me.

What IS the style of interview here? The database shows one on one with 2 interviewers for some, but group interviews with 3+ interviewers for others....

If interviews start after 2 PM and last an hour, is there a time when everyone is done so I know its safe to schedule a flight then?

I called and found out my interview time in advance, +45 mins-1 hr on that and you are done.

Can anyone answer about interview style?

On their website it says that it is a panel

Here is the link, http://www.evms.edu/admissions/interviewday/faq.html

This is in the FAQ section

What kind of interview is it? One-on-one? Panel?

The interview is a panel interview that lasts about 30 to 40 minutes. Ideally, the interview panel consists of a basic scientist, a clinician, and a medical student. One member of the interview panel is a member of the Admissions Committee.

Interviews have starting times of 2, 2:45, and 3:30. It's a 2-3 person panel. If it's three people, one will be a student.

For the essays on the secondary application, did everyone confine their answers to the space allotted on the application or did you attach a piece of paper?

Finally got the secondary invite today.
There isn't much room for the essays, is there?

I used the allotted space and did not attach additional sheets for the secondary essays.

The day I interviewed they mentioned that they could not officially mail out acceptance letters until Oct 15, but that you could call in to check your status before then. Anybody know when the earliest we could call is without driving the admissions office nuts?

last year they told me 2 weeks after I interviewed, so I would call then. Best of luck! EVMS is a great school from what I've seen so far

Did they say WHY VCU and UVA are hostile towards EVMS???

So I got done with my first interview a couple hours ago. It was so so, but I am hoping that the interviewer was tough and I actually performed well. I hated that I didn't get asked the "a 14 year old daughter of a friend wants an abortion..." question because I had a really good answer for it. Instead I got a physician assisted suicide question that I think the interviewer wanted to hear me say that I would seek advice from a hospital's ethical committee. Unfortunately, I completely forgot about this resource at the time.

Anyways, I'll fill out the feedback form shortly. During the interview, both interviewers had a sheet in front of them that looked like it had each question or a guideline of questions to ask and then lines for them to write comments down. Next to each question there looked to be a scale of 1-5 or so probably for your performance on each question. That's just some insight into how the interview factors into consideration that I thought might be interesting to know.

on the secondary application, in the table where we have to fill out our prerequisite courses, what do we put under the column Term Completed or Anticipated?? do we use abbreviations like FR S1 for Freshman year Semester 1 ....OR.....

pls help me out, thnx

Did they say WHY VCU and UVA are hostile towards EVMS???
It all had to do with money. Since EVMS does not have an undergraduate institution attached to it, VCU and UVA feel as if they should be taking more of the state's money. I don't know how true that is, but it's very believable.

how long does it take from being complete >> decision??

how long does it take from being complete >> decision??

If you're in-state and complete, probably 2-3 weeks to get an interview, then another 3-5 weeks for the interview, and another 2-4 weeks after that to get a decision.

During my interview visit, they said you can call a few weeks after your interview (even if it's prior to 15-Oct) to see if they have accepted you.

So, in my case, I was complete around 10-Aug and might get an acceptance/rejection as early as 1-Oct.
