i think there's supposed to be like a google group they invite you to once accepted or something

did your ex-roomie get accepted recently???

Yes it was in the last few weeks sometime off of the alternate list. She was waitlisted everywhere and got off of 3 of them of which GWU was the 2nd one she got off of like a few weeks ago. I forget when. I'm sure it was prob. end of June or so when she was accepted.

she was holding out hope for another school to come through though cuz of cost issues even though she loved GWU wayyyyy more then this other school. But they didn't come through so now she's getting ready to find a place and move up north to attend GW.

any news lately?
when does classes start?

My friend got in a few weeks ago and is officially going there. She's the reason I posted on here. But my understanding is they are similar in schedule to the start date of USF med or UF med i.e. mid August sometime. Not sure of the exact date.

Hi all!
My wife and I are in the area from Utah trying to find some reasonable housing ($12-1400) and not too far from foggy bottom like 2 or 3 stops away. Any ideas would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

Check the Rosslyn area- I am going to GWU this fall and I am living there- it is a little more pricey than that though. I would be surprised if you can find anything for that price within three stops- unless you mean 1200 per person haha.

heck this is the only school i still have hope for. I am on two other 'meaningful' waitlist and both those schools start in the first few days of Aug.

I am waitlisted at NYMC and orientation starts there like aug. 1st and someone got off the waitlist yesterday. Still have filled out the AMCAS and am re-studying for the MCAT but still am hopeful at the same time

I was wondering if George Washington uses weighted GPA?

thanks in advance

Vincent

All schools use the GPA that you get on AMCAS from my understanding.

this system shows that 3.3 = B+, 2.3 = C+, 1.3 = D+

Like wise, A- = 3.7, B- = 2.7, C- = 1.7

A and A+ = 4.0

B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D =1.0, F = 0, D- = 0.7

So if your B+ for instance is worth 3.5 or A+ a 4.5 in Canada for instance, that would not work for AMCAS. AMCAS would calculate using what I've stated above. So it balances out.

Ah so they start 9 days after USF but their white coat is probably before USF. I See.

interesting. But anyhow, not that it mattes. I was just in this thread trying to get info for my ex roomie but she got it all figured out now and is moving in a week's time. 😀

just called. was told there will be no more movement this year. 🙁

aww, really? like they are cutting of the waitlist?

I was told that the class is full and they aren't expecting anymore movement, but if our status change, they will notify us.

so, if someone withdraw, they will leave the spot empty?

I assume they were meaning that all acceptance have been confirmed (aka they have paid). I assume if something did happen that prevented someone from making it they would still go to the waitlist. leaving a spot open would cost the 160 grand

I'm sure it means that they don't expect anyone will drop this close to the start date of the program. But I'm sure if someone did they'd call and fill it. But generally that happens so rarely that if you haven't heard by now that is a sure sign that it is time to reapply and improve whatever is lacking in the app.

I'm applying to GWU for 2010.
I have looked and all I keep reading about is bad things about the school since they've been put on probation.
Can anyone tell me some good things about the school, curriculum, professors, and hospital?
Thanks 🙂

Dear Mr. ________:

As you know you were placed in our alternate pool for the August 2009 first year class. Orientation began this week. Thank you so much for your patience. At this time we have closed the alternate pool for this first year class.

We are truly sorry that we could not accommodate you. Your sincere and continued interest in our program was very much appreciated. We wish you the very best in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Diane P. McQuail, M.A.

I would disagree with that statement. GWU is on probation for not having a lot of study spaces but they will fix that the same way RFU fixed their problems when they were put on probation.

GWU has a lot of strengths. It is near NIH and students are allowed to even go to neighboring Gtown if they want for research opportunities.

But at GWU itself they have several different tracks like one for integrative medicine, one for public policy, etc. etc. They have a strong public policy program, strong international medical programs for mission trips across the world rather then like at schools in Fl. which only go to one or 2 countries. They have several several hospitals that have strong clinical training. Those were the things that impressedme when I applied there this past year and that impressed the friend who will be there in the fall.

They may not be harvard but they are a great program.

also i know people that would consider this a first choie. My friend that is going there got in other schools and could hav turned them down but considered this school higher up then theo thers. there was only one school higher up on her ranking that she didn't get into but that was not cuz she liked the program better but because of other personal issues that had nothing to do with curricula.

I believe if I recall from when we were applying this past year, there are like more then 10 hospitals affiliated with the school for a wide diversity of clinical care. I've heard from this friend that GW is very patient focused. So that is a plus. And even if research is a goal, then NIH is nearby. So I'd consider all that good.

got that email too 🙁 and i thought orientation starts on the 19th!

question-

so orientation is suppose to start tomorrow...but rejection letters went out last week...so, highly unlikely, but what if someone doesn't show up for the first day?

i read somewhere, like maybe a few years ago, that the dean already had notified a few ppl on the wlist that if someone does not show, they get the spot

is that the case for this year too?
