When an interim email is sent to applicants presumably by March 15th, is it essentially a rejection letter stating that you will no longer be considered for an interview invitation or acceptance for 2009 admissions or is it simply just a reminder that you haven't been invited yet, leaving open the possibility for an interview invitation in the near future?

I talked to Ms. Walk today and she said that I would hear something by the 15th, but she could not tell me what it was. TELL ME WHAT DOES THAT MEAN YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:
That means I am going to be so unproductive at work this week. Constantly checking e-mail and spazzing. Does Howard only send out acceptance letters this early???? I need some help you guys. 😱😱😱😱😱:
I am a very calm and collected person normally but now I kinda wish I did not call. I also could not tell by her voice one way or the other. She definitely did not sound congratulatory. What do you think?

The way I have seen it is, we will get an email from Ms. walk saying that our decision letter is in the mail and we can call for the decision. Since the 15th is on a sunday, we might get the email on this friday. That is the way it happened with last months decisions. 2 of my friends got their email the friday before the 15th. So we shall see. Lets pray that friday will bring us some blessed news.

So...from what I understand, Ms. Walk will send an email saying that your out of committee and can call for the decision in the case that you've been accepted, or maybe waitlisted. I don't think she does this if you've been rejected. At least that's what I was told. I'm really wishing both of you good luck because I know how badly you want this and I think that Howard could really use people like you. Keep it in prayer and try not to stress...easier said than done I know!

So when the interim email goes out, that is Howard's way of letting students know when they will stop interviewing and that it is still possible to get an interview. SO just remain as positive as possible and keep praying. Last year a fair number of people who got that email got interviews and even got accepted. If it is in His plans, God will make a way. God bless!

From wwhat I have been told, Howard doesn't usually reject until may or june. So I would say that it is an acceptance or a waitlist. But lets just remain confident and say it is an acceptance. I wouldn't let Ms. Walks voice get to you. She is a very professional and wouldn't sound anyway because she knows how paranoid we are and her voice could give things away. If she told you that you will hear by the 15th, lets just keep hoping and praying and believing it is an acceptance. Since the 15th is a sunday, maybe friday will be the day! I am praying for ya big guy. when did you get the email that said your letter is out of committee and your letter will be mailed on or about the 15th? Man I hope I will hear something as well by the 15th, In Jesus Name!

goodluck beerog I hope you hear something positive soon, I actually hope we all hear something positive soon. After contemplating for a while Howard has now become my #1 choice, I just cant pass over living in DC and working in an awesome community.

To be honest, I got that e-mail in December. I think what held mine up was that I was applying MD/PhD so I think mine has to go through two committees. I will keep praying for everyone and rain or shine will continue to offer my support. I haven't heard of anyone being waitlisted or rejected so maybe it is a good sign.

Bumpity Bump! Who's ready for some action!!!!

I think it is time to recruit some posters. I am going to have to find some Guitar Heros in D.C. I am going to be leaving all my band members. Let me know... :xf:

I'll join your team man, I used to play years ago but havent for a while. If i get in i'll pick it up again since I have promised myself an xbox 360 if i get into med school.

Same here! I can't wait. I also promised myself to get Gears of War 2, Street Fighter 4 and either Madden/College Football or MLB. I have a feeling in my heart that this week is going to be our week!

We can definitely make a video game loving group if we all get in.

Even when I get into residency. I am gonna set my games up in the break room. I know they are going to think I am crazy. Maybe I will get a job at a children's hospital so I can blame it on the kids.

Hey guys. Ive been reading your last several posts and was hoping you guys could help me on the housing opportunities around Howard COM. I've recently been accepted but I am wondering where I'm giong to live fo rthe nect 4 years. Is there a way that I would be able to concact current and soon-to-be Howard medical student for potential roomates within the near future?

I'd appreciate any responses & I hope you guys become accepted as well. Good luck!

Wassup Hooper. First off, congrats on being accepted. I take it since you are looking for a place to live you are going HUCM for sure. I think you should also post in the allo class thread on the Howard but also there is a Howard University College of Medicine class of 2013 group on facebook. That would be a good way to get a hold of future classmates and current students. I have faith that I am going to be accepted so I have been looking for housing as well. The bible tells us we have to prepare for our blessings! I have a fair amount of friends at HUCM and I know that students live in Silver Springs, MD; Arlington, VA; Southeast DC. Those are just a few places. well I hope this helped a lil bit. Hopefully we will be classmates. oh yeah, when did you get interviewed/accepted, if you dont mind. God bless!

If i get in I think I would just live in the student housing across the street, its close and fairly cheap from what my friends said. I keep nervously checking my email for the background check notice, we are suppose to get that before we hear our decision right?

Some people have gotten the background check after they got their acceptance. But I may be wrong. I am hoping that friday will be our day to get the infamous email from Ms. Walk. I called about the housing in the Towers and the lady I spoke to told me that it is $1200 a month for a one bedroom and my friend who is a 2nd year told me she wouldn't recommend me staying there.

Are you moving there with your wife/significant other or by yourself. If that is the case than i think it will be hard to live there since it is kind of tiny. I am single so being close to campus is luxury I wouldnt mind paying a little extra for.

students live in Silver Springs, MD; Arlington, VA; Southeast DC

I'm a metropolitan area native so here are some of my opinions about these places.

Southeast DC : is probably the closest and cheapest but living here would be equivalent to living in little rock Arkansa or Highland park in Detroit Michigan. Good luck ordering a pizza after a late night of studying.

Arlington Virginia: Is probably the furthest away and also probably the most costly but Arlington is a great and vibrant city. However, I must admit that I know the least about Arlington out of those three areas. I hate Virginia's strict traffic regulations (among other things) so you won't normally find me around the area unless I'm taking a back road to pick up a family member or friend from Dulles airport.

Silver Spring MD: is probably the best bang for your buck. The area is considerably more expensive than it was probably 5 or 6 years ago, but this is due to the recent trends of gentrification in the area. The city is young and vibrant, full of professionals and college students. It is also very close to HU. Very close to the D.C night life and attractions.

Another great and cost effective suggestion would be to look into the PG county areas, more specifically: College park, Beltsville or etc.... PG county is ranked the wealthiest majority African American county in the nation. Housing here will be cheaper than in silver spring and living here will also leave you just a metro ride away or a 20 min drive away from HU if you choose your location wisely. Be aware that some areas of PG county can be similar to Southeast D.C (like suiltland for example). So do your reasearch.

Howard Dorms: I have never been inside and I have no desire to. I can't seem to get the conversation about the cockroach problem--which I had with an HU student--out of my head. This is expensive as heck (around $14,000 a year) and from what I have heard, not a good place to live. If you do the math, this means you'll be paying about $1166 JUST FOR HOUSING and a crappy dorm room at that. Even if you include board in the equation that's still a rip off. I've been renting out a four bedroom house in College park with some buddies of mine for the last three years and I'm paying $500 a month for rent and utilities. I'm exactly four metro stops and 10-15 minutes away from HU depending on the wait time.

I'm going to add that living in Silver spring, most of the PG county areas or Southeast DC gives you quick metro access and most of the stops are pretty close to HU (about 30 minutes max) and IMO the metro or walking is definitely the best way to travel in and out of D.C.

I am married but my will be staying home in California for my first year because she has to finish her MPH. So I will be moving by myself. I though about living by myself but I think I would rather save some money and live with a roomate.

I actually live in Arlington and go to Howard. It's not as far as everyone thinks it is, but the traffic can be bad because the only way to get from VA to DC is to cross one of only a few bridges. It is more expensive, but if you can get a roommate or two, the apartments in crystal city are much larger than most things you'll find in Maryland or DC. Also, there are two metro stations that you can walk to as well as several grocery stores and Pentagon city Mall (which most Howard students frequent). I would say if you want convenience, it's a good place. But we all know that you have to pay for convenience 🙄

It's Thursday, maybe we will get some good news today! We shall see!

That would be nice....

Today or tomorrow...

Maybe Monday....

or Tuesday....

Well, good news is always on time 🙂

What makes you guys think today? It's the 12th not the 15th. I would think Monday before Thursday, however I guess a pleasant surprise would be nice.

I was only thinking today or tomorrow because the 15th is on sunday and last month, a couple of my friends got the email from Ms. Walk about their decision on the friday the 13th before the 15th. So I am just hoping and praying that it will be the same this month.

Oh, well I think that it's a no brainer that you are getting in. I mean you created the thread. That's got to count for something in the good karma universe.

lol. I would have to concur👍

I sure hope and pray that you guy/gal are both correct! Lord, please hear what they are saying and make it true!

We are all going to have a great time at Howard! Lot's of sleepless nites but loads of fun !

I am going to write this post while I am still on the outside looking in (I think it sounds more genuine that way).

It has been my sincere pleasure to fellowship with you all through this application process. To be able to share the ups & downs with you guys. The people who visit this forum and read all have the passion to matriculate into Howard University College of Medicine. I get the mental picture of a group of individuals who come together with the desire to serve those who desperately need it the most. That picture is painted on a canvas whose history dates back to just after the American Civil War. I feel truly blessed thinking about the possibility of being able to train in a place with such history.

No matter what the outcome, I feel truly blessed. People from my community are more likely to go to jail, than go to medical school. This may be the case for many of us here. No matter how this application process turns out, I will be a doctor but it just won't be the same. I don't know how many of you feel this way, but just being there interviewing made me feel that I had done something right.

My challenge to those of you who have already matriculated is to make the best of the opportunity. Should I matriculate with you, as we become friends and colleagues I will have no problem offering my hand if you should fall off course because I would expect the same in return.

Thanks for enduring my babbling, my girlfriend gets tired of it too...

See you guys in a couple of months :xf:
(sorry for sayin you guys so much, I lived in Utah for a while)
most of my friends say ya'll
I don't think they use ya'll out west though????
See once again, I digress...

That was a very touching message. I can only hope I get in. I understand this message isn't directed at me or anything so I am not trying to get all self centered here but I have to say something. I know this sounds really tacky, but I have been reading this forum every day now for several months and I have to say, I've kind of become emotionally attached to "you guys" (see, I say it too! 😀). It's not that I simply want to go to Howard this year for the sake of immediately transferring from college to med school, but I specifically want to meet all of you in person and hopefully become your friend and colleague. If I were rejected, I'd be very upset and not just because I am missing out on going to medical school but because I would be missing the opportunity to be in the same entering class as all of you.

With that said, I KNOW YOU WILL MAKE IT! YOU GUYS ROCK!

Nice post beerog, I really I hope I get in so I can become part of the Howard family. I am not an African American but I was born and raised in Pakistan so I know what it is like to grow up with nothing. My dad got lucky and we were to make it to this great country otherwise I dont know what my life would have been like. I want to give back to this world in a way to thank god for giving me an opportunity than millions others will never get.

I have only received the email updating all the applicants that the admission's office has moved once again. I certainly hope that isn't analagous to the interim email. I hope to hear more information.
