I definitely think you should call. Especially if Howard is where you want to be.

Does anyone know if interviews end in March or April? Do I have a chance at being accepted even if I am not a URM as long as I make it clear that I am totally on board with Howard's mission of working in underserved areas? I really am, in fact, most of the schools I applied to were schools that emphasized goals very similar to Howard. Honestly, while I'll take what I can get, I kind of don't want to go anywhere else except Howard. It truly has everything that I am looking for in a medical school. Like I said, I have a good GPA (3.806), but my MCAT scores were only decent (28O) and I won't hear back from Howard until they receive my January MCAT. I am worried though, I saw a lot of people of my race and socioeconomic background with 33 MCAT scores and excellent GPA's who either got waitlisted or rejected. I truly don't mean anything offensive about that, I'm just worried I won't be taken seriously during an interview considering that I come from an upper middle class background. Now that sounds cocky, crap! I'm sorry!
I have heard that Howard is interviewing thru April. Howard has one of thr most diverse classes I have seen at any medical school. As long as you have a genuine desire to serve the underserved, then you have a chance at being admitted. The only thing that might hurt you is them waiting for your January mcat. They won't get your scores until February and by that time, they may have done most of their interviews. Im not saying you don't have a chance cuz you do. But it is hard to be late at a rolling admissions school. I hope and pray all works out for you.
Anyone had any luck at calling the admin for a status update? It says specifically not to contact or that they can't verify reciept of letters so i don't want to annoy them, but if someone else got ahold of them and was given useful information that would be good to know
..what r urs?So why do you want to serve the under-served? just wanted to know what people's motivation are.
I got the acceptance letter today! Good luck to everyone who's still holding out (Especially you B!). I think they had a long winter break 🙂.
Congrats, when did you interviewI got the acceptance letter today! Good luck to everyone who's still holding out (Especially you B!). I think they had a long winter break 🙂.
I got the impression Howard is less focused on numbers and more interested in a commitment to underserved medicine. What kind of ECs do you have?I haven't hear back from Howard since the email that said they're moving to a new office several months back. Does this mean i'm rejected or are they still reviewing my application ?
Does anyone know the average for Howard ? I want to know whether my GPA and MCAT is competitive (3.3/30 respectively) for getting an interview and I am not an URM.
D

I keep hearing people say things like, "silent rejection." I'm getting a little bit paranoid now. There is no such thing as a silent rejection is there? If I were to be rejected from Howard (or any other medical school for that matter), I would be informed of it, yes? Also, in addition to everything that is required in the application process, I sent two letters of interest to Howard. The first was to explain why it is my top choice medical school and how I want to participate in its mission of giving special quality healthcare to the economically and resourcefully disadvantaged. The second was to explain my interest in the student body and faculty. What's done is done obviously, but do you think this is too excessive? I don't want to irritate the evaluators of the school that I wish to attend the most.
Yes, such a think exists as a silent rejection. As a reapplicant to medical school (and to Howard), I think the only M.D. program that "forgot" to send a rejection to me last year was Tulane. Now that their secondary is computerized, that shouldn't happen again. It happens most truly at D.O. schools where people apply on the deadlines (in like March, April) as a last ditch attempt in droves when the class is actually already basically full. I knew many people whose secondary fee was cashed late in the game but who never heard a word.
no word yet? man they are running on true CP time 😀 😍Bump! How yall doing? Man I love Howard. I am continuing to pray my behind off that I will get accepted and be there in July. I also hope that I will gey to be in class with many of you in here. We just have to hold on a little bit longer. God bless!

Hahaha! Yeah, but I still love them! Hopefully my decision email/letter will get here this week or next. I have faith that the Lord is going to bring me an acceptance. I trust the Lord with all of me!
Hey! Were you interviewed? If so, may I ask what the interview was like? This question goes for anyone that may have been interviewed by the way.
I regret to say that I have sabotaged myself. Instead of keeping with the MCAT score I already had and just settling down, I rushed myself and retook the test. What was the result? A lower MCAT score. I never would have expected such a thing to happen. I should have listened to all the people who told me not to dive into it so fast and wait until I finished my physics course. I guess that basically voids out any possibility for 2009 admissions. This was my dream. I'm not trying to make a pity fest out of this forum or anything so I apologize if it seems that way. I am just shocked. Either way, I wish all of you the best of luck and congratulate any of you who have already been accepted. I mean that without spite or sarcasm.

Hey Geliebt, thanks for the cup of hope. I am going to use it to wash down my Cheerios.
Answer me this (I know that is not grammatically correct but work with me here):
If Howard interviews 300-350 for a class of approx. 100 and they accept about twice as many to fill the class of 100, then that means.....
They send out approx. 200 acceptances.
That means that about 66% of those interviewed get accepted.
Please let me be in the upper 60 😀😀😀
Wassup Beerog! I think their class is more like 120. But what you are saying sounds about right. Our acceptances are coming. I have a feeling that we both are going to be in the next batch. Keep praying big guy! We are both going to be golden!
Wow 80% sounds insane for us allo school. Hey blackdr2b i saw that you also interviewed at drew/ucla, which would be your first choice if you got into both

True, I hope so. You will be a great doctor. You have the empathy thing down packed. Are you thinking about primary care?
Great idea! You can be in my study group. Definitely have to have a network of success in medical school.
So to update my numbers:
300-350 interviewed
120 matriculants * 2 for acceptances to fill the class = 240 acceptances.
240/350 = 68% or 240/300 = 80%
so between 68-80% chance of being an M1 at HUMC!!!!!!
That's even better numbers BDr2b. Thanks for the help with my math. Anyone else feel free to chime in and help with the numbers.
It helps me pass the time.
That is really cool man, I love your passion for Howard.Yes I did. And I can honestly say that if I got into both, I would be at Howard in a heart beat! Drew was awesome and I live right down the street, but Howard has been my dream for a very long time! I can't wait to get out there! I love everything about Howard!
We can definitely do the study group thing! I am all about each one teach one.
Yes sir I am definitely thinking about Primary Care. Actually, I am about 95% sure that I want to do Family Medicine. So I have been looking into the Primary Care Loans/Scholarships and National Health Service Corps. What about you?
Well...
I figured I must let my voice be heard since this thread is starting to turn into a beerog2003 and BlackDr2b reality show! J/K. I have my interview on Tuesday and I am beyond excited. I have been patiently waiting for this oppertunity for quite sometime. Especially after following the likes of UVABranch through her journey I truly believe that anything is possible with the good Lord on my side. This means that you two are in for SURE. I'm not just saying that. I really feel it in my heart.
So.... in the midst of proclaiming our future I would just like to note that I would also like to join this famous study group of yours. Im leaning towards OBGYN since I've basically spent my time involved in womens health for quite a few years now. Does this quality me for the prodigious honor?
Oh and I am totally looking into the NHCS. I think its the perfect way to fund a career that I want to spend assisting the underserved anyways. Ok that's all for my rant today. I may not post often but i'm on this thread EVERYDAY. Keep it coming everyone. It's a great way to pass the time! 🙂

7 more days until mar 15 lets hope we hear something next week. Is the news usually sent as an email or snail mail?
