I think you have to wait until they send you the secondary in your email to send it in. They put the secondary in the attachment.

I had to wait until they got the secondary together so it took about 2 months so I'm not sure how long it takes them now.

Congrats sidalexis! 🙂

Thanks everyone! I'm not sure how they sift through the applications, but like I said I'm in house. I'm in the Genetics department there. I think this is probably the coolest group of people I've seen on a secondary thread!

That's because we are all family around here! They didn't receive my secondary until 9/10 so it might be a while before I hear anything. We shall see what the good Lord has in store......

Don't you sometimes get tired of the waiting, constantly checking e-mail, I am just praying for a positive response.

I do get tired but then I tell myself that I must be patient and that good things come to those that endure! I have been praying my behind off, especially for Howard. I have been praying about HUCM for 3 years now. I want this really bad. But we shall see, I will leave it in the hands of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom with all things are possible!!!

Oh ok. Well here's hoping I hear some good news this week because I really want to go to Howard. All I can do is leave it in the Lord's hands!

hello all, i'm new to posting on this thread but i just got a invite today!!! i'm so excited. Today is oct. 3rd and they gave me two choices to come: Oct 15th or 29th. I'm going on the 15th because luckily thats my midterm break and I have no class! Also, for those who are wondering, im out of state and my stats are 29Q, 3.9 science gpa, 4.0 non science gpa. Also, my AMCAS was complete 8/26, I received a Howard secondary 9/5, got confirmation email saying they received my secondary and fee 9/23, and received the interview today 10/3!!!! I hope that helps out for everyone else waiting. (I know I always beg people for specific dates. lol) I wish everyone the BEST of luck and I pray that all of our dreams come true! Just remember that God already has our futures planned out and all we have to do is trust him and enjoy the ride!! God Bless you all! Good luck!!

So I haven't received confirmation of my interview date yet...I'm going to call the office tomorrow to make sure they got my reply. Anyone else get the confirmation email?

i got the confirmation email after calling to confirm it first. also, does anyone know how to get in contact with students at the university? My plane doesnt leave until the day after the interviews and i'm wondering if there's something I can do that night. anyone have any ideas?

I actually go to Howard now as a grad student and my boyfriend is an M1. Where are you staying and what day of the week is your interview? I wouldn't wander around the city, especially this one, at night. If you're coming on a Thursday or Friday you can probably find something cool on U street or Adams Morgan. But it really depends on where you're staying.

my interview is wednesday the 15th. i'm arriving tuesday night and leaving thursday afternoon. My aunt lives in DC so i'll be staying with her and she's my transportation but I was wondering if there was anything to do on campus wednesday night. I guess i'll meet people during the interview day tho. I was just wondering if there was anything exciting going on wednesday night. lol. i'll probably just end up watching the presidential debates! lol

Quiet? Any good news anybody or are we all playing the waiting game? This is exhausting. I am beginning to consider alternative careers. My family thinks I am crazy. My back up plan go something likle this 1. Osteopathic medicine (Only because the majority of them require a letter from a DO, I think I can probably get into 1 schools. So My hope is pretty low on this one) 2. Nursing school I can always because a nurse anesthesis and live a good life while doing what I love 3. Podiatric medicine (I can always become a surgeon, it only takes 6 more years) 4. Maybe pharmacy school 5. teach high school student (I love to teach but the pay is too low👎). I am actually applying to all of these this year. I just don't won't to get stuck in limbo. I don't won't to be like one of my classmates who applied four times to medical school and did not get in. In the end she decided to apply to ROSS in the Carribean. She told me try to get into a US school. ROSS academic program is harder compare to US schools according to her. Well, I told her at least you are becoming a doctor. Suck it up and do the work.

Does anybody else have back up plans just in case this med. school stuff does not work out for whatever reason? But in Jesus name everything will work out the way it is suppose to.

First off, don't worry too much. It's good to think of alternate plans but trust God to fulfill your heart's desire. Trust God when things are going well and when they are uncertain. Personally, it's not just a matter of getting in or not, it's knowing that God will take care of me no matter the outcome of this application process.

OK people.. so Im new to this thread... but I was complete around 09/15. I still havent received a confirmation email that I am complete. Have tried to call to verify they have my packet and the lady in the office reassured me I would get it in good time. "it may be late but you will get it, its just taking a while because we are moving"... this is making me very anxious. Anyone else in the same boat. I'm trying to be calm and stay positive but 30 days is doing tricks on my blood pressure!!!

I am in somewhat similar boat. I submitted my application and have not received confirmation that I am complete. I received an e-mail today stating that they are moving today and that they will have a new number soon and won't have access to e-mail for a little while. I am losing my mind. I don't know whether to submit another secondary application or not.

You are right!!!! I need to trust God but I am also beginning to doubt myself. I am just freaking out. I have become an e-mail Junkie.

LOL...that sounds like me. One of my first thoughts when I wake up is to check my email. When I get home from work, I check it again. When I'm off from work, I check it alot more. The truth is, it is scary going up against ~40,000 other applicants who are just as qualified as you are or seem better prepared in some way. Your application is yours and there is not much you can change about it at this time, so trust it is adequate and forge ahead. I guess what I'm saying is, I have self-doubt too but I also believe that He won't forsake me in this process or anything else in life. Things might get rocky but He is right there.

How is the area around Howard? I'm interviewing next week and going to be taking public transportation and walking at night. Should I be worried?

You'll be fine at Howard, just don't get on the green line (Howard is on the Green line, but it's in a decent area) and go south past the navy yard stop (which is where the new Nationals stadium is located) into SE DC. Even if you do go by mistake, as long as you don't leave the metro station you're fine. You'd probably be fine anyway, but seeing as how cops don't even like to patrol that area at night, I'd avoid it. You really shouldn't have any reason to go past the L'Enfant Plaza stop anyway so don't worry about it.

I also have an interview next week and you folks are scaring me! I'm staying at the Virginian Suites (Arlington)which is supposed to be near the Rosalyn (sp?) metro station. Should I just take a taxi to the interview? How about my family (including baby) who are coming along. Will it be safe for them to take the metro into town to see the Whitehouse etc?

I'm a very nervous person...any safety tips would be appreciated.

Please DO NOT worry about safety. Taking the metro is completely safe and you should not have any concerns about bringing your baby on the metro to see the sites. My only suggestion was to not take the metro into SE DC at night. I have never once felt scared while taking the metro and I have been on it at all hours of the day and late at night.

Did anyone else find the email Howard sent out yesterday as amusing as I did? lol

I HOPE THIS HAS HELPED TO SETTLE DOWN THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE UNDERGOING THE GRAVE CONDITION KNOWN AS MSAS (MEDICAL SCHOOL APPLICANT SYNDROME). THE SYMPTOMS INCLUDE:

CHECKING EMAIL EVERY FIVE MINUTES,
NERVOUS SWEATS,
SLEEPNESS NIGHTS,
AND AN URGE TO PICK UP THE PHONE TO CALL US EVERY DAY!

They even recognize that this process makes us neurotic, why doesn't anyone revamp the system?

As stated below, the METRO is very safe and so is DC in general especially the tourist sections (which do include some SE neighborhoods such as Capitol Hill). If your family wants to see the White House, call your Congressman's office and get tickets (Do this right now). You don't want to have to stand in line at the ticket pick-up (get there very early if you want to even get tickets). Remember that you can't have anything like scissors etc in your purse or baby bag to go through.

If you want to see things like the Holocaust Museum, get tickets from Ticketron so that you don't have to wait or so that you can get in. National Archives is also a great place to visit (generally less crowded). Call your Congressman's office, tell them that you are in town for which days and let them get some passes for you for the good stuff).

A cab ride to Howard from Rosslyn is very, very expensive. You would sit in traffic most of that time anyway. Take METRO to the Shaw-Howard University stop and then walk two blocks north. (Total walk time from Mudd Building to Metro is about 10-minutes). METRO is crowded in the morning so leave plenty of time to get where you need to go. Add a minimum of an extra hour so that you are not late.

Have your family buy a day-pass for METRO $5 and you can ride all day unlimited after 9am until METRO closes.

The above is good advice but get a day pass for every adult so that you don't have to worry about paying to get on and off the METRO. Also, ask at your hotel to see if there are some tourist trolley tickets that your family can purchase for the day. You can then see most of the sites (like Arlington Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Washington Monument etc) and just get on and off.

Thank you for these reassuring responses. One last dumb question -would it be easier just to rent a car and get dropped off? I hate not being in control of time and am nervous that I will not be able to coordinate the metro transportation properly. If not, should I follow the above route leaving my hotel at 6 a.m.? Maybe 5:30? Could I just pay one of you to take me...lol...but I really would...😳

I know its daunting, but when it comes to interviews in large cities, public transportation is sooooo much more reliable than dealing with fickle traffic. Plus, what are you going to do if you happen to move to D.C. for school? It's best to have a taste of what life would be like there. Independence is good. 🙂

IMO, the safety rules that apply to smaller communities apply to larger ones as well. As long as you don't do anything stupid (like wave a wad of cash around in front of a group of starving people), you'll be fine.

man, i am dieing to hear back from howard. anyone heard anything lately? or know any info? about anything?

I have mine completed on Oct 23 but haven't heard a cricket from Howard. So I called them the other day and was yelled at. Do you know a better way to check our application status, instead of calling them? Thank you.

After reading through some of the concerns on this thread, I just wanted to offer some reassurance and myth busters. The metro in DC is rivaled by nothing else in this country. After visiting other cities, I realize why people are skeptical of subway systems. Our public transit system is extremely clean (no food or drink) and reliable and very easy to use. Most of the pentagon and capitol hill workers use the Metro and so can you. Also, DC is very much a tourist city. At any given time there are tons of tourists everywhere so you won't be out of place. As for the area around Howard, it is rapidly changing. U street has become a popular bar scene and many of the surrounding houses are undergoing renovation. But obviously you don't want to let your guard down in any city, no matter where you are. I hope this eases concerns about travel to DC. On another note, Crystal City is a great place to stay if you decide to visit because everything you need will be within walking distance. Just my two cents

I'll also like to hear from Howard. Has anyone been offered an interview lately?
