Hey everybody!

Congratulations to those who got accepted to Howard!!! Hopefully I will be accepted along with you, because that is where I want to go.

But I have a question. So I interviewed in January and today I received an email saying that my file is out of committee and that I'll be getting a decision letter in two weeks. I am super nervous!! But i was wondering if I could call Ms. Walk and ask her to give me my decision over the phone or would that be too much??? What has everybody else done????? Thanx a bunch!!!

First off congrats on the interview and I hope you get in and join our class. 2013 is the bomb! I think you getting that email is a good sign. So far everybody that has gotten it has been accepted. Try to be as patient as possible. When they mail your letter, you should get an email from Ms. Walk saying you can call for your decision. So I would just wait until you get that email. If you call now, she probably won't give your decision just yet. I interviewed in December and even though it was hard, I waited until I got my acceptance. It is coming, so just try to occupy your time for the next 2 weeks so the time will pass. I didnt get my CBC email until 2 days after I got my acceptance. Hello everyone! It has been so long since I have replied on the thread but I have been reading. First I want to congratulate Beerog and BD2B for getting accepted!! Yay!! Hopefully I will be joining you all soon. My interview went very well so I am praying to hear good news soon. We'll see.
So... I went to the HUCM Smoker 2009 last night and had an amazing time. It was really great fun. Just being in that environment with everyone loving and enjoying each other really reiterated the fact that Howard is where I am suppose to be. I even started to develop the Class of 2013 pride😍. If I do get in, we all better make sure we have the best Smoker Skit ever! HUCM's class of 2013 excells in AND out of the classroom 🙂 I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I am sure that your journey and your willingness to share your story will be an inspiration for future pre-meds. You have a strong spirit of hope and optimism that is infectious. I got my packet on Saturday, and mailed the stuff off yesterday. I also dropped the medical forms off at my primary care doctor.

I am gonna have to pinch myself when I get to D.C. to make sure it is real.

I don't know. I have never heard of anybody getting an email like this. What did you email them with? What email said there was 30 spots left?

Also, a friend of mine who is looking to go into dentistry and is tentatively interested in Howard has a question: Is it a guideline for an applicant to have a C or above for all pre-req courses for acceptance into Howard with no exception for medical school or denistry school? Or has Howard from time to time accepted applicants with grades lower than C (such as a C- or a D) to medical school and dentistry school assuming that they showed incredible academic improvement over the years? Also, how does Howard feel about a W?

I believe they wait until the end of the cycle and send out rejection letters all at one time to people who haven't interviewed or are being rejected post-interview.

Not sure about the second question. It might be best that if you got a low grade like that, to re-take the class or just whoop every class after that like the class stole something from you! LOL!

I think I am going to sign myself up for a tour of the medical school campus at Howard for April 3rd since their website states that they do tours the first Friday of every month. Has anyone ever done this before? If any of you have, did Ms. Walk conduct the tour herself? If not, did you at least ever have the opportunity of meeting her during the tour?

Sorry to keep asking so many questions you guys but I was stupid. I sent all my letters of interest among other materials to the address of Howard's medical school admission's office instead of the dental admission's office during their move. I typically sent the mail through Fedex or overnight delivery. Does it matter or will everything still be received and placed with my application regardless?

BD2B,you don't know me at all, but I noticed your posts on the "Class of 2013" thread and I've been following your story. I haven't even applied to Howard, and I've been checking this thread often, just to find out if you got in!

I am SO HAPPY to hear that your dream has finally come true. I'm a REALLY old nontrad who's in the middle of the application struggle right now, so I know how it feels. I'm actually waiting and wishing and hoping to hear from MY dream school right now--my only chance to stay in NYC with my husband and kids. (Otherwise, I'll have to be separated from them for med school, because my only acceptance is far away.) So if you have room in your prayers for someone like me, I could really use it.

Regardless, I congratulate you and everyone else here who has made it. You have a lot to be proud of. Good luck in med school!

Heeeyyy everyone, no interview invite for me yet but even if it is hopeless, I am going to try to remain optimistic. Afterall, they are still sending interview invitations until April 15th, yes? I have sent several LOI's and update letters already, I sure hope they were received! I even drove to the HUCM campus today and talked to the lady in the admissions office about signing up for the tour this Friday. I have to get in contact with Ms. Walk to arrange it and it's hard. I understand she is a very busy woman so the admissions office gave me her direct phone line. I certainly hope I don't annoy her by contacting her. I am just so determined to go to Howard this year or at the very least, get something out of my application like this tour!

In other random news, I am participating in this awesome internship before I graduate with my B.S. Have any of you heard of Prevention Works? It is an outreach program that focuses on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention in medically disenfranchised communities. Every aspect of it is directly up my alley! I am currently focusing on establishing a database based on the needs of the DC community and innovations of the organization I am involved with, writing an article eligible for publication in a scholarly journal, making and distributing educational materials, and much more! I am doing my first mobile outreach needle exchange this Friday just two blocks west from the Columbia Heights metro and I am so excited!!! If you guys are ever interested in volunteering for their kit making night or NEP, feel free to pm me for contact info 😀

Sorry for taking so long to respond, but you can't use me as a timetable because I interviewed in October and got my letter in March. So I think that I may have waited the longest out of anyone. You will get there though, I believe. The fact that you interviewed is a really good sign. I would just keep in touch through specific e-mails. I think those are the most effective way of communicating, because I get the impression that those phones are ringing of the hook over there. Good luck, and I look forward to seeing you in the FALL!!!!

Hey Harish! Congratulations on getting an interview, that is the hard the hard part from what I hear. Hope you will get to join us in the fall. I can't answer your question because I stayed with my friend who is an MS2 there. But I can try to do some digging and find an answer for you.

I stayed at the Four Points New Carrollton
It was $137 with tax and was a really nice, clean hotel

It is about 7 miles from Howard but traffic was terrible heading into DC that morning (maybe its like that every morning). I left the hotel at 6:50am and got on campus at 7:45am.

I would stay there again though.

I got a rental car. I did not want to trust a taxi that early in the morning. Plus, I am from small town America and we really don't use taxis that much.

The rental cars are pretty cheap in DC (I am over 25 though so I dunno how it will be for you if you are younger).
