Hey,

I got the June 18th email and haven't heard anything else. I'm thinking it's probably too early, but was curious if anyone had any news...

Nothing here. Not sure what to make of the email:

"We anticipate making final decisions by the end of June, and you will receive written notification of your status in the first half of July."

Does that mean they are no longer making phone calls? That we will all, for better or for worse, receive a letter indicating our status in July?

Or are they still calling applicants?

Yes they still make phone calls. In July they'll just let you know if you're still on the waitlist. As we get closer and closer to the first day of school, they make phone calls because it's faster than snail mail and they require a response as soon as possible. I got accepted by phone mid-July so it's possible that there's additional movement even this late in the game.

Hey those waiting. I got an e-mail about a week ago asking if I was still interested in Downstate and then a phone call about a week later saying I was accepted. I'm currently holding a spot at Buffalo, and I think I'm going to take Downstate over it due to location and match list. So yeah there is still movement so keep ur fingers crossed.

Hi guys,

I have a question about housing.

Living next to the campus is nice, but I want to see what other options are there. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

take a look at the facebook group for downstate 2013. there are a lot of postings for apartments in the surrounding areas. there are also a lot of people looking for roommates.

regardless of whether you choose to live near campus (i.e. Flatbush) or further away (i.e Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope) there are pros and cons for each. I chose Flatbush because I can walk to campus and it's cheaper. Many people like Park Slope because it's more 'happening' (for lack of a better word). Its many restaurants and coffee shops, creates a more college-esque area.

It's not a big deal where you live, just pick something you like. If you shop carefully I'm sure you can find a nice place that meets your preferences-- real estate isn't precisely booming right now

Has anyone heard anything yet? Still waiting....

Me too!!🙂 After being on hold for "spring" consideration since February!!!

I got a fedex package saying I was on the alternate list and the committee listed me as a candidate for acceptance if a spot opens up... it included interest form, medical information, etc. Anyone else get this?

I received the FedEx also. The text in the letter must be old because it suggests submitting FAFSA, whose deadline has already passed for this year. It also says to complete BLS course by 8/3, but does not indicate where to do so. Anyone knows?

it doesn't say any of the on mine...i guess it depends on your personal situation, regarding acceptances elsewhere, etc.

I got the fedex alternate list packet too. Does anyone have any idea about movement? (when, how many, etc...)

This is so torturous.

There are a few places you can do your BLS course. Check out either training4life.org or americanheart.org to sign up for it.

Congrats to all those who have been accepted! 🙂

Does anybody know whether acceptances are only given over the phone at this point?

I called this morning to ask for an update. I was told that all decisions are being sent out and to keep an eye out. 😕

that text is not old.

the deadline for fafsa (if there even is one) does not apply to you because that would be unfair for people who get accepted to school very late/off the waitlist. i know this because i filled out my fafsa about 2 weeks ago.

also, google "aha ecc class connector" and your first result should be a way to find the bls for healthcare providers course.

good luck folks.

Hello,

24-hour doorman
Excellent maintenance
Newly renovated (granite countertops, new microwave/stove)

Thanks, I filled out my fafsa with no problem.

In case this applies to anyone else, don't sign up for BLS via ECC Class Connector. Call the center directly to do so. Apparently, AHA doesn't send the sign-up information to the training centers.

just to get an idea... how many people are on the alternate list now?

just to get an idea... how many people are on the alternate list now?

I am an alternate.

Completed application around around november (after mailing in some missing supplamental material); interview 1/21; placed on hopld for spring consideration 3/21; alternate list 6/18.

I don't know if anyone would do this for me, but I have only one shot to get into MD school and that is Downstate, from the alternate list.

I am on my way to D.O. school if I don't get in this round since I am already a re-applicant.

Would those of you on the alternate list who got into other school's MD programs pull out to make room for people like me who have no other chance of pursuing our dreams of MD school?

If Downstate is not your only chance please consider this, it is my only hope, and I hope you understand the position that I am in.

Finally, someone said it. I am in the exact same situation, plus my current job is coming to an end soon. I called DS yesterday to ask them when would be the absolute last day for a decision. I was told 8/17, the first day of orientation.

someone removing themselves from the waitlist (presumably because they don't want to go to Downstate) won't help your chances any. if someone like that does get the call, they'll decline it. Then someone else will just get the call, over and over, until someone matriculates. good news is that if someone isn't interested, they won't get all the stuff in by August 1 to stay on the waitlist. hope it works out for all of you.

Has anyone in the alternate list heard anything recently?

I'm also still in alternate list purgatory. Good times.

Whats everyone's feelings at this point? Does anyone know if Downstate has historically offered acceptances this late in the admissions season? I know the facebook group has around 140 people, but i bet a good number just arent on facebook.

Ive been trying to call the admissions office to find out any info about alternate list movement, but nobody picks up whenever i get transferred.

Whats are you guys' backup-plans if you don't get accepted?

Oh, and does anyone know if any of the other SUNYs or NYC schools' waitlists are also moving at this point?

Yeah I got a call on the 28th about acceptance.

I'm happy to be joining you all, but I'm a little worried because there seems to be a flood of things I need to do before I'm cleared for admittance and time is winding down.

Did you guys do the HIPAA certification yet? Because partway through it and the thing gets stuck and I can't go further anymore! It's so frustrating..I have Earthlink (which they said it didn't work) but then I tried it at my friend's house (she uses Verizon) and it gets stuck in the same place! 😕

Also do they need to send you the link before you can do the AMCAS MSQ? I tried signing in and it didn't work!

I had the same problem with the HIPAA training. I sent an email to the contact on the notice they had sent out, so if I hear back tomorrow I'll let you know what she said to do. I wasn't using one of the servers that they had said wouldn't work so I'm guessing it's an issue with the program itself

Thanks, but now the HIPAA training is entirely down and we have to get it done by Friday? What is up with that?

Thanks! I emailed them and now awaiting a reply still.. maybe I should email them again!

it took them about a day to get back to me

I got an email today a little after noon that the website was back up. I couldn't use it at all yesterday either but today was ok. Also she had told me in her initial email to just try to get it done before classes start, if not we could do it in the library. I guess they just want to make sure everyone does it so they made it an earlier date than needed or something.

Hmm I emailed them on Sunday..and still didn't get a response, but I just sent another email.

Yeah I'm still getting the service unavailable message from the site. But that's good news to hear that it's not that pressing. So I'm assuming the problem was fixed too? Thanks for the info!

Ok, so I dont want to give false hopes here because obviously the chances at this point probably aren't very good. That being said, I'm 100% sure that at least a few will get in between now and when orientation starts. I personally know someone in my class (current 3rd years) who got in the day before orientation) and heard stories of someone in the year above me who got in on the day of orientation because someone in the class didn't show up.

Again, the movement is probably pretty slow at this point, but until the 17th it remains possible and has happened in the past.

considering i have no other acceptances, I will have to get a job. I am almost done with my emt training, so hopefuly i can make a little bit of money and save for med school while having some nice experiences. i try not to let it get me down, but it really is quite depressing... at this point, i feel having hope only makes it worse, the best thing now is to just move on and make the best of it. btw, it must be such a chaotic experience to get an acceptance the day of orientation.

I tend to agree with you... And yeah the story is pretty crazy, I heard this guy was living in Arizona with his wife and kids and had just started a new job. From what I've been told, he quit the job and flew out to ny with the whole family the next day and stayed in hotels til he could find an apartment. Chaotic to say the least.

I'm still waiting, holding out a tiny bit of hope. Ugh. Anyone else hear recently? Anyone else still waiting?

there's still movement on the waitlist so there must be others waiting. you're not alone!

may i ask what you guys r planning on doing now? in the process of reapplying? new job? mcat? misc?

Does anybody know around what time they'd call if someone didn't show up today? Do they even call today?
