I got the call from Sandy at work today. Best phone call ever! Hang in there everyone...your phone call will come soon enough. Congrats to all the fellow future Drew/Bruins!

Congrats kperez27!! You and KippocalypseE have been blessed. If you don't mind me asking, is this your number one choice?

If I recall correctly, KippocalypseE had an interview 11/15 and kperez27 had an interview 11/22. Any one else from those interview groups, or possibly others, get any good news?

nope no news and interviewd on 15th. I was told just yesterday that my file was just sent to ucla committee and am very interested in knowing what the procedure is for sending the files to ucla.

I would also like to know how the Drew files are sent and evaluated by the UCLA adcom. Maybe acl3623 or another Drew med student can shed some light on the events after the files go to the UCLA adcom?

I asked acl3623 he/she didnt know how the process of sending files to ucla works. So i guess we just keep on waiting.

congrats to those who received acceptances! ucla has their own admissions process which, to be honest, ive never really asked anyone what goes on (some stuff should really not be prodded so much). they have their own procedure and give their recommendation. i also dont know the logistics of how files are sent...also more inner workings that i'm not privy to.

Does anyone know how many people have been accepted thus far. maybe the msIV can shed light on that? Also, does anyone know if the acceptances are in waves? Has anyone been waitlisted?

Thanks Kai! Drew is my number one choice! I hope everyone hears good news soon!

(Also I got the phone call at 4:00pm)

As of 4:00 pm today there have been less than half of the 24 spots taken. I am guessing there are only been 6-10 acceptances given out thus far (according to what I was told). Apparently most of the accepted applicants consider the program as their first choice but a few people expressed that their other options were much better suited for them.

So if any of you guys are wondering, there are still plenty of spots left. I personally made it clear that this program was one that fit me best through an LOI so interpret this action as you will. Hope things work out for the best and congratulations to all acceptees.

INFO FOR ACCEPTEES:
The acceptance letters will be mailed out by CDU on Monday or Tueday of next week so they should arrive soon. We will also receive acceptance letters from UCLA which will come much later. Get ready to frame some documents!

Additionally there will be no major mandatory events until July 2009. That is the time period where we will go through our orientations at CDU and at UCLA (about 2 weeks each!). Glad to know we have several, peaceful months to take in our last breaths before med school.

This probably means that drew sent their nominations to ucla and the highly acceptable people were accepted right away while everyone will be reviewed later after they interview more people.

Well.................................I'm pretty much chalking this one up as a loss. It's ok though. I still love Drew and they will always have a special place in my heart.

Congrats again KippocalypsE and kperez! Drew is definitely a special special place and I am sure you guys will knock'em out!

congrats to everyone accepted, but everyone else just stay positive and keep praying, only that can be done at this point.

What kind of talk is that?! No one's out of the running for a spot yet! By the looks of previous years posts, people were notified of acceptances into March or April, and that's not getting into waitlist movement which could go until June or July. You got an interview with the first group, and I'm sure that counts for something. It's too early to tell at this point, so we should just keep our hopes up and keep praying. I'm praying for you too BlackDr2b; I know you've been really excited about the Drew program.

How many interview days have there been so far. There was 11/15, 11/22 and from what i see 1/24. Thats 3 I am assuming there will be one in february and maybe one in march. does that sound right?

So there's been confirmed interviews on 11/15, 11/22, and 12/13. I've read varying posts on how many they interview, ranging 150-200 applicants. There were roughly 20 interviewees in my group, 11/22, and I was under the impression that 11/15 had the same number. So I was thinking that they may be doing around 20-24 interviewees per interview Saturday. That would require a minimum of 7 interview sessions and a max of 10. Does all that sound right?

Did anyone else just receive a secondary application? I submitted my primary back in September or October and I just received the secondary, so I'm debating whether I should submit it since it seems like they have already handed out a ton of interviews and I don't want to pay $50 if I don't really have a chance to recieve an interview.

Let's not give up and keep hope alive. 🙂

WOW!!! To those of you accepted (KippocalypsE, mmspero, kperez27) that is AMAZING NEWS!! WOW! I am so happy for you guys, what a wonderful blessing. I am interviewing tomorrow, and pray I will be able to call you guys classmates and friends next fall.

To those of you waiting, keep hope alive. If Drew is right for you, it will happen!

it doesnt seem like they would have 10 interviewing sessions, if they do than it will be very heavy backload schedule since most schools are already almost finishing up interviewing and drew has only 3 confirmed dates. I say 5-6 sessions with 20 students each equaling about 120 interviewees for 24 spots. stiff competetion.

Valid points assakkings. I'm not sure which I would prefer; 200 interviewees or 120 interviewees (with better odds but possibly stiffer competition). My feeling is 120 might be better, just cause I'd expect the extra 80 candidates to be just as competitive. Maybe if acl3623 drops by she can shed some light on how many people are interviewed and in how many sessions. Then Live4Life, you may be able to tell what your chances are, as I am not certain how many people have been interviewed and how many more they are still planning on giving out. I'll say that secondaries aren't given out easily, so maybe it's worth a shot for you to turn it in. Best of luck if you do!

Best of luck to you, KittycooMD, and the rest of you who are interviewing tomorrow!!!! :luck::luck::luck:

reading last years thread it seems majority are accepted in february and march so i guess we jsut got hold on and wait it out, and i hope its only 120 interviewees i like my odds more this way.

I was told today that they have not sent all of the late 2008 interview files to ucla (they have some sort of batch system) so, we still have a shot...:xf:

Had my Drew interview today! Overall it was a pleasant experience and went much better than I thought it would. Now comes the wait!

I will be flying to LA for my interview. Does drew offer a student hosting program?

congrats merissa hope your interview went well, calgal when is your interview and I dont think there is a host program because the Drew is far away from the actual UCLA campus where most of the students are.

Hi Merissa, that's great that your interview went well! Now, welcome to the waiting game! You can keep all of us who are waiting company 🙂

Hi calgal! I was able to get a student host. However, asakkings is correct, my student host was at Weyburn (at the UCLA Westwood campus) and I think most, if not all, Drew students reside near the Westwood campus. Since you are flying in it might be better to get a hotel closer to Drew. When is your interview date by the way? Congrats on the interview!!

Lets remember, there is a glimmer of hope! good luck!

Now that I reflect back on Saturday I'm not sure how my interview went...I'm really uneasy about this now.🙁

I'm sure you did great! Maybe its just post-interview jitters that interviewees get every now and then. Is there anything in paticular that you're uneasy about? And, did you have an MS4 or faculty for the individual interview?

I think they are continuing to interview people. My friend has an interview at Drew in March

to answer some peoples questions, my interview is on march 7th. it is a bit late but I am hoping things will work out. I have a friend who's a current MS1 with drew and he said he didnt hear until february that he had an interview date in late march. by the time he interviewed he was told that the class wasnt even half filled yet, so i am hoping everything works out even for us who are interviewing later 🙂

so how's everyone holding up out there. i am still holding on to hope.

so how's everyone holding up out there. i am still holding on to hope.

Still hanging in there asakkings. Some days my thoughts are, "I got this", "Its in the bag". Other days doubt creeps in, "Did I do well during the interview", "How will they look at XX potential flaw". And still at other times, even despair can take hold, "Should I move on to plan B", "What IS plan B... or C... or D..." It's an all around emotional roller coaster. But it's still too early to count anyone out. Even if my name isn't in the next round of acceptances, there's still hope. As long as I don't get that rejection letter, there's still hope. Do you think we'll hear something this week or do you think they'll wait until Feb?

I think we will definately have to wait until feb or even march, but long as i get that lucky call i the wait will make it sweeter. Although the wait might just drive me too insane to actually practice medicine.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree...the wait will not make it sweeter, even when I get in.....this wait is possibly the unsweetest thing I have ever endured!! lol

hey everyone! just dropping by to say hi 🙂
i'm waiting too...:xf:

Interview at Drew!!! Im so excited. Some questions though for those who have interviewed... Where does the actual interview take place? At the Drew campus or UCLA? And, who makes the decision on applicants, is it the same ucla committee, or something completely different?

The interview, if it stands as the same location for past interviews, will be at the Charles Drew University campus. More specifically the Cobb building. The specific information should be in the interviewee word document they emailed you just in case you need to google directions. By the way, I didn't know this at first, but you could park for free that day on the lot just outside the Cobb building.

Decisions on applicants as far as I know is done by the CDU admissions committee first. They look at your primary, secondary, and interview/group interview evaluations. This process will take a long time (just look at past commentary in this thread). Afterwards the chosen files are sent to a committee at UCLA which approves/denies the CDU committee's choices. If both committies are in accord then you will be given an acceptance phone call. This information, in more detail, will be revealed during your interview day.

Congrats medRckr and best of luck on your interview! When are you interviewing?

Sandy sent me an informal email letting me know that I have an invite, but she said the committee is still determining the dates of the upcoming interviews.
