No, I have not been accepted. I called the financial aid office today and the guy said that I received that email because my med school application is still in process and they are unable to process my financial aid application until I get accepted. It's not that I am missing any financial aid application material.

Gotcha. Thanks for answering my question! Good luck to you🙂

So, here's a question for you all. I didn't get that email that everyone else is talking about (even a friend of mine who has already been rejected got it). I also haven't been accepted, but I did fill out my fafsa in february. Anybody know what this might mean for me? I've gotten emails from them before so I don't think communication is the problem.

Check last years forum, the same thing happened and there was a lot of discussion about it.

Does anyone know for sure if dissection will be a part of anatomy at the U next year? I recall a current student said it has been cut but I've since heard otherwise.

I emailed admissions today and she said that all she could tell me is that letters will be sent out by the end of March. Does anyone have any better of an idea when they will be sending letters out? The wait is driving me nuts. :scared:

Did she say how many they are accepting this year?

Does anyone know when people heard last year?

Does anyone know how to find this thread from last year?

NYU or U of U?
Any thoughts?

Are you already accepted at both places? If so, I would pick NYU just because I have always wanted to live in New York. Seriously though, how do they compare for residency matching, USMLE pass rates, curriculum, and do they have a focus specialty. I am sure that you have already thought about all of this, so it's probably just a reminder for you.

I really liked NYU. If prices were comparable i would choose new york unless youre obsessed with outdoorsy stuff. The U is a pretty nice school though once you get past the admissions office

I've been told that it makes no difference where you go to school (although these were all U of U grads) but where you do your training. I did not recognize many of the programs listed on the U's match list. Granted I am not acquainted with the residency world. I do have offers at both schools and am leaning towards NYU.

Just to give anyone else an update who hasn't heard yet my friend is who is M1 heard that they upped tuition by 15% and decreased the class size from 102 to 82. Maybe that is part of the reason many qualified applicants didn't get in, myself included.

Anyways just thought I'd pass it along.

I am sorry you didn't get in Ambermay. When did you receive your letter? I can't believe they are decreasing the class size by that much, especially when there is such a shortage of doctors. It makes absolutely no sense. Hopefully you will get into another school, if you haven't already.

It doesn't make sense, I interviewed beginning of Jan and got my letter a couple of weeks ago. I guess all of the funds that they aren't getting from medicare and medicaid are hurting them.

In past years, most have heard around the end of March, early April.

By the way, I heard through the grapevine today that the class size for next year is 80, and that should be accurate. Sorry I can't be more help with more specifics, but I didn't attend the meeting on tuition and class size today.

Do you guys think they'll send all the rejections and acceptances out together or will they come in separate waves?
Also, I don't know about everyone else but I've been checking SDN obsessively the past two weeks hoping for some news, but there never is. The last few days have been pretty slow, maybe its the calm before the storm.

I have been checking way too often, too. I need to forget about this website because it is amping my anxiety level!!! But, here I am anyways.

I am not sure about how they are sending out their letters. I am pretty sure though that 75-82 is the final number of spots. So far they have offered up 60 of those spots. Let's pray some people decide to decline their offer so others have a chance😉. Goodness knows that I need that chance!

Don't worry, I have been checking sdn multiply times a day, everyday. I am very anxious, especially now that I know they are only accepting 80 people.

How do you know they have already offered 60 spots? I had no idea they offered the majority of the spots by this time. I was under the impression that the majority of acceptances would go out at the end of this month.

Last week I got a rejection letter from the UofU for the second year in a row. I'm an out of state applicant, originally from Alabama, but really wanted to move here and attend last year. My husband is from here and so is his entire family.
After the rejection last year, we decided to move to Utah anyway and I would reapply. I even got a job at the U in research with a Ph.D who teaches the anatomy lecture to the medical students, and he wrote me a wonderful letter of recommendation. He's part of the Molecular Biology MD/Ph.D program, though I only applied as an MD. The dean last year told me my application was great, and I exceeded 7 of the 8 requirements. I called today to schedule my "exit interview" but he doesn't have time to meet with the rejected. I can't tell you why I didn't get in. I'm still considered "out of state". I've only been here 8 months, not 12. I asked today, and they took 13 out of state applicants. I forgot to ask how many they received. I wonder what these 13 students had? Does anyone know any out of state applicants who got in? Please tell me what their stats are if you know.
Now I live here in Utah and have to decide whether to stay and reapply the dreaded third time (finally as an in state applicant), or move back to Alabama where I currently have residency. I really don't want to go there, as the education is far better here at the University of Utah. I'm still waiting for word from the University of South Alabama.
The medical school building is next to mine. Coming to work the next day was torture. I really thought moving here would be a great idea, a show of how much I wanted to be part of this community. A chance to better my education and get out of the south at the same time, and even have my husband's family around.
So to those of you who are with me in rejection from the U, I feel your pain and it's even worse since they won't do exit interviews this year!

Wow Call1911 that's too bad, I'm sorry you didn't get in. As for me, I got put on the dreaded alternate list today. I got the call that I had a letter in the mail around 2:00 this afternoon. It's funny, as I was driving home, I told myself to be glad no matter if I got a rejection because at least I'd be able to move on and get things figured out for the fall. I guess I had never considered that I might be put on the alternate list. For me, its almost a fate worse than rejection. At least they gave me a firm date that I will know by...August 18

Bingo, Do you have acceptances anywhere else? If you do, then being put on the alternate list sucks, if you don't, it's better than being rejected in my opinion.

So the wave has begun. I just got an acceptance letter for the U of U...IS. Wahoo! The letter came in a small envelope. It is two pages so the envelope is kinda thick. Don't freak out if you get a small envelope. It could still be good news. Good luck to all!!!

Yeah I have a few other acceptances. Its hard because my wife is looking for a job and we don't really want to spend the money flying her out to interview at different places if we're not going to go there anyways. Oh well, congratulations to megawilde and good luck to the rest of you.

Thanks, it sucks and I'm trying to get over it. Getting on the alternate list for the University of South Alabama is what I fear most! Then I won't know whether I need to move back or not. I hope you find out the decision soon.

i'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you... keep your head up though!

To answer your question about the OOS people: i'm OOS and just got accepted. 30 on the MCAT, 3.3 total GPA, and 3.4 science... way above average letters and experiences, however.

Also, I decided that I will be attending Wright State, so I will not be paying my Utah deposit. Hope that helps someone.

:luck::luck:

You guys that got accepted, did anything on the the page you did the secondary on and scheduled your interview on change? Phospho or Bingo, what was the date on your letter?

Are you IS or OOS? If they are sending out alternate list letters does that mean they have already filled the class, and that all the rest of us can hope for is a place on the alternate list?

My letter was post marked March 18, so I'm guessing that a few more peeps should get letters today.

I'm actually an Idaho resident, so don't despair yet. Also, from looking at last years thread I don't think that admissions sent all the acceptance letters out on one day at the end of March. Rather, they were sent out over a a week or two period. I don't know why they do this but then again I don't get a lot of things they do.

Congrats on getting in from OOS! I had a 30 MCAT and 3.7 GPA. I had way above average letters and experiences too. I don't know what else I could have done. Thanks for posting this, though, as I haven't heard anyone from OOS (except Idaho) talk much about the University of Utah.

A neighbor is on the admissions advisory committee and told my mom this. Don't worry though...they are just offers i.e. not all 60 slots are gonners. Fingers crossed for everyone!!!!!!!:xf:

Thanks Phospho for giving up your spot. Good luck at Wright State!

Got the alternate list letter today. I'm an Idaho applicant. 3.9 GPA, 34P MCAT. Anything else? Kinda bummed because I wanted a firm answer. C'est la vie. Hopefully the wait list starts moving soon. It seems like it did last year, as Utah does not overaccept.

Cougalum, I got the letter for the alternate list today too as an Idaho applicant - but will most likely be withdrawing. I doubt the list for Idaho is very long since there are only 8 spots, so you might only need 1 or 2 people to drop to get it. Good luck!

yes, my online status now says at the very top "congrats, you have been accepted to the university of utah school of medicine", and there's now a checklist of what I need to do (pay deposit, send transcripts, etc...)

acceptance letter was dated 3/18

Honestly, I don't know how i got in. My two interviews were horrible. I still don't think they liked me. My flight to SLC was cancelled and so I flew into vegas, rented a car, and drove all night to SLC, and got there about 2 hours before the interview.

I keep an excel sheet to track my status at each school I applied to. I listed Utah in the "rejected" category after I got back. That is how bad I felt the process went with them.

Thanks Phospho for giving up your spot. Good luck at Wright State!

thank you! best of luck to you too! :luck::luck:

Just to give you another perspective...I'm OOS, 3.85 gpa and a 37R with good letters and ECs (EMT, research, international internship etc) and got rejected in January.

Has anyone else still not heard anything, like me? I am IS and interviewed towards the end of January. The wait is really bordering on the absurd now. I am ready to pull my hair out every day the mail comes without a letter from UUSOM:scared:. Please, let the letter come soon (but if it is a yes, I guess I can wait longer; if it is a no, just put me out of my misery already!!!).

Try waiting since september, and I'm IS too. THAT'S absurd. I hope you have some other acceptances so you're not TOO crazy though. Good Luck!

Ouch, that really sucks. At least you already have some great schools in place. I applied really late so I really don't have anything else going for me. It's either this or apply again next year. Scary!!!

I have also been waiting for a really long time. I'm IS, interviewed the first week of October, and this is my second year applying. I'm thinking that they will probably let the rest of us know by the end of this week. Not sure though, so don't take my word on it.

I was sure my letter would come today. Alas..... just some bills and junk mail.

Maybe tomorrow....

Ah! Same here. I really felt it today, thought it was perfect timing, but no.

Is everyone else like triple checking the stack of mail to make sure the letter isn't stuck in a catalog or something? I make myself laugh every time I do that, but there is a very real chance that the letter could be stuck in that stack of junk mail😛

I called yesterday and they told me that all of the letters would be sent out within the next two weeks. I am Idaho though, so I don't know about the rest of the pool.

Got my rejection letter today. IS, 33 MCAT, 3.8 GPA, and it's my second year applying. If only they hadn't cut those 20 spots.
