There are a lot of hotels in the area. Any hotel on W Main street, and you should be fine (ie within walking distance to school).Hey guys!
Does anyone know the best hotels to stay in? I'm trying to figure out accommodations, and I left the packet they sent me at home 🙁
Thanks!
Has anyone heard anything from them recently? I was complete 9/5...
I was complete 7/18 and haven't heard a thing. And I'm in-state. 😡
I'd be really surprised if you don't hear from UVA sometime soon, especially since you are in-state and you have gotten so many interviews at other great schools (like Columbia ... *jealous*).
That's not good news for me! 🙁Thanks for the encouragement. I've heard that UVA really prefers their students to have at least a 10 in every MCAT section (actually heard this from the dean of admissions at a presentation) so I'm not counting on getting an interview (that 9 in PS is a killer for sure 😡)...
Or me... I've been waiting to hear ANYTHING from there for ages *sigh* I need to start making phone calls and sending updates 🙁.That's not good news for me! 🙁

Crap. I never noticed before, but they are the only school I applied to that had a 10 as the 10% marker in each section. I'll be so disappointed if my 9PS gets me. That was the most absurd PS section I'd seen and really sucked considering I was 12-13 on my last three AAMC tests. Noooooooo! So if 10 is their unofficial MCAT cutoff, do you know if they have an unofficial GPA cutoff? I also haven't heard anything from UVA (and I'm also in-state 😡), but my GPA is probably not where it needs to be 🙁
I have a < 10 score in one section and got an interview. (I'm worried that they'll reject me because of that section score 🙁 ) But, I guess a 10+ isn't that important if they interviewed an OOSer who doesn't have the 10+...Crap. Congrats!!! Yeah, I'm waiting on a decision. I wish it weren't through snail mail, though! It's hard to wait if you live in cali 😛 Hopefully, by the 20th I'll hear something.Got the letter in the mail today: ACCEPTED!
YESSSSSSS.
UVA is awesome! I was really impressed with the entire school when I interviewed (10/7) and it's definitely one of my top choices. Plus, they gave me a decision in TEN days! Why can't all schools turn around so quickly? The waiting is far worse then getting rejected or waitlisted for me. Everyone I met there was nice, the interview day was perfectly run and organized, and I haven't been to any other school where the admissions dean took the time to memorize the names, hometowns, and activities of every member of my interview group.
Now that's attention to detail.
So if you're waiting for an interview, hang in there because it is definitely worth it in my opinion. Best of luck!![]()

I'm really pulling for an interview. I got a response to my letter of intent today. Hopefully I see something soon.
It was sort of a cross between a LOI and an update letter. The updates were tied to why I wanted to go to the school though. Other than the updates, I detailed why I loved the school so much. I know the school pretty well, and I know it's where I want to be. I figured why not try to get the ball rolling. It can't hurt. You wrote an LOI before you had an interview? What did you say? I am thinking about writing one.

And I just emailed it to Lesley Thomas, the director of admissions. I don't think UVA has a dean of admissions.

She thanked me for the letter and told me it would be appended to my application.Did they respond nicely?
Yep, no question about it. Although I did qualify my statement by saying my commitment was pending significant financial aid from another school. I doubt that is coming, but I just wanted to make sure I covered my bases. Is UVA really your number one choice and you would definitely go there if accepted? I'm just wondering about writing letters of interest/intent/update if the school is definitely 100% my #1 choice because then I feel like I'm being dishonest...
thats pretty cool- as a bme dont you have many of the same prof's youll have in medschool- especially if you do anything research/phd related? it makes the most sense to go to my state school- pretty much a twin of yours- but ive already been there 4 years. She thanked me for the letter and told me it would be appended to my application.

Congrats! Were you at the game? I wish we didn't rush since it wasn't that big of a game (I guess the steak had a lot to do with it), but I did it anyways since I figured I'll never do it again.Guess I should also say that I found out I was ACCEPTED yesterday. AND UVA somehow managed to pull off the upset win over UNC in OT! Rushing the field is awesome, reminded me of doing it when we beat #3 Florida State in 2005... So a pretty good day all around yesterday!! 😎

And you'd think they learned their lesson after the win vs. FSU...it's been three years but it feels just like yesterday.
I heard that UVA has higher standards for people who went there for undergrad. Perhaps that's why I haven't heard anything despite being complete since early August. Either that or it's my GPA.
Actually it's the opposite. Based on 2007 entering class at least. I can't remember the exact numbers, but I think we had 240ish apply and about 60 accepted. Like I said, not positive that is correct. I do know that the average GPA and MCAT was well below the average for the entire accepted class. And you'd think they learned their lesson after the win vs. FSU...it's been three years but it feels just like yesterday.

Seeing as their avg MCAT score is a 33...they have to eventually interview you!I just looked at MDApps and realized that they haven't interviewed anyone with an MCAT below 33 yet. Somehow this doesn't surprise me...
Maybe they will invite the rest of us to interview soon!

Oh yeah!!! You just reminded me...of the people I interviewed with, 4 out of the 5 had interviews at WashU. The 5th didn't apply. I'm pretty sure I had the lowest stats of the bunch. 😛 I think they're interviewing higher stats people first...?
Nope! The dean (during his admissions speech) said: Our avgs last year were a 3.7 and a 33 and we're aiming for that this year.Yeah, unless they're trying to get a higher MCAT average this cycle... 🙁
That's probably true, and I think I remember hearing something similar. For a school that says they aren't very "numbers-focused," it sure seems like they are to me!

It's not going up!
This is for my benefit, chad! I want you to get in so we can be classmates (yes, I'm selfish) 😛Yay! Thanks berken! 😀
