So...is anyone planning on calling the admissions office tomorrow to see if they'll give you decisions over the phone? (and if not, when we can expect our little envelope?)

I thought acceptance emails were sent out today, and by not getting one it meant that I would be getting a little envelope soon...

Maybe I still have a chance:xf:
If you call, nina, please post what you find out!

Acceptance messages were definitely NOT sent out today. I called them. They will be sent out tomorrow or Monday at the latest, along with the wait list messages. Rejection letters come via regular mail so it is slower...

ok, so it's the slow envelope for me 😉

Hey Optimus,

When you called did they indicate if they would tell us the decision via phone or if we had to wait for email or the "slow envelope"?

It would be great to know the answer today and not worry all weekend.

🙂

Alright folks, looks like I'm one of the first lucky one to be "still under consideration" on these boards. Here is my email:

"This notice is intended to bring you up to date on the status of your application to the University of Washington School of Medicine. After evaluation of your interview and academic record, the Executive Committee of the Admissions Committee considers you to be part of a pool of applicants who will remain under consideration. Last year 34% of the applicants who received this letter were eventually accepted or put on the alternate list. You may expect a definite decision regarding the final status of your application no later than the first week of April 2009. At this point, however, we are unable to indicate what your chances for eventual acceptance or alternate placement are.
We realize that this uncertainty may compound your stress and frustration with the admissions process, but it is important that additional candidates go through the evaluation process. All final decisions will be sent via regular mail."

🙁 I know it's not a rejection but it feels kind of hopeless...anyone know how many they accept/reject right off the bat??

Uhh Nina, hello, you will be getting an acceptance e-mail, not a stupid little envelope.

Aw I didn't even see this! I love the people on the UW thread. But as you can see above...not accepted. 🙁 They were really quick sending out decisions though.

Did you guys hear anything!?! I'm rooting for you all. :xf:

Got this status last year as well and was one of the 66% not to get positive news after (sigh).

Nina--you can check last year's group posts, but a few folks heard postitive news throughout the year and most folks in this status didn't hear anything until April (when they mostly got denied and a few waitlists/alternates).

I remember them mentioning and I have heard from other students that only about 10% of the eventual class is accepted outright

"Still under consideration" for me too - I wish they had given us some more information though. Nothing is more frustrating then just waiting. Has anyone heard yes yet? Good luck to everyone else!!

This is depressing. But good luck to all of you on hold:luck:

Does no hold message = slow letter?

Hey ronica--

It could still be a good sign?? Since no one is posting about getting in then maybe they'll send those later?

If I were you I might call so you don't have to wonder all weekend...

Good luck!:xf:

I think someone at my interview said holds and acceptances get emails, rejections and acceptances get snail mail. I guess there's a chance that they didn't get to my group yesterday (11/24 interviews)?

I'd be dying if i were you. Are you going to call today?

I am in the sad, sad batch of rejections. I called them...if you do not have an e-mail at this piont you were rejected.

I thought my interview went fairly well, but there were some things I can improve in future interviews.

Anyway, best of luck to all of you. Last year, a friend of mine was waitlisted and then accepted within 2 weeks. I am told that is uncommon, and it may have been because of a certain connection he had, but hopefully that makes some of you a bit more comfortable.

I want to add that they definitely got to everyone, unless the person that interviewed you happened to not be at the meeting, which is unlikely. I interviewed on 12/1 and have alreayd been rejected.

So you got told over the phone you were rejected but also got the hold message? Sorry! Good luck else where

What?!?!?? Now I want to call but they aren't answering the phone :scared: I wonder why they would send out the hold message then...

Anyway, sorry Optimus, they are definitely missing out and I'm sure you're headed somewhere amazing

I did NOT get the hold message nor did I post that message, I don't know if someone else has access to my account or what...

That probably sounds weird, but I am very confused about the hold message post...

lol, man, I bet that freaked out the people that got the hold message...

To clarify, *I DID NOT GET THE HOLD MESSAGE*, so I called them, and they told me I was rejected.

I apologize for whatever the hell happened there.

Again, if you got the hold message, it *DOES* stand and you do not need to call them.

Oh wow. Hope you changed your password. Again, sorry for the rejection though

Another thing I want to add is that I have heard the dean give a talk about what UW looks for, and I can say with great confidence that they do not focus on numbers. Unless your numbers are really, really messed up, you have a solid chance at acceptance. I believe she said they used to have a cutoff for an immediate interview of 30+ and 3.5+ or something, but that a TON of accepted people did not even fall into that category, so they changed the system.

For those of you that are interested, my stats are as follows:

sGPA: 3.96
cGPA: 3.91
MCAT: 30Q, with PS: 12, VR: 8, BS: 10

Yeah, MCAT day was lame, I was averaging 36 🙁

Again though, if you are passed a certain threshold numbers are not important at UW.

By the way, I have confirmation that UW reads SDN lol, hello UW.

How did you feel about the interview? Any specific areas you did or didn't feel good about? Sorry for the rejection......

I felt like the interview went well right after, and then I started thinking about it more and more and I realized that I made some mistakes. I think I was a bit nervous, and I was speaking too quickly and not making eye contact enough. Also, I wish I had PRACTICED answering interview questions more...instead, I just read a TON about medical policy and things like that. I will post an update when I get the actual letter, UW is one of the few schools that provides specifics.

Just to give everyone hope, I was put in the "under consideration" category in oct., and was accepted today via email!! very excited since i was rejected at uw 2 years ago.

congratulations!!! Did you do anything in between your hold and acceptance? (ie..send in grade/activity upddate?)

I received a email earlier this week, inviting me for a wwami interview - but it just stated that "your state interviews on such and such dates," and doesn't give me a specific date when I would interview. Does anyone know if we are supposed to wait for another email saying when our day will be?

Thanks. I didn't do anything. I was planning on sending an update early next year and didn't expect to hear anything till March.

Good luck to you all still waiting.

Hey, does anyone remember how long it took them to cash the check? I've been "complete" for a little over a month, and my residency has been verified for one week. I don't expect a decision, but I at least expect them to cash the check. Do they only cash it when the reviewers actually get to your application? Maybe they just forgot to cash my check and I can save $35 out of the thousands I've spent on this whole process! 😀

That is a super good question! I've been complete for 2 months+ and they have not cashed my check (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) :scared:

Check sent: 7/27/08
Check cashed: 8/12/08

Only 12 business days for me 🙂

How soon did you hear something from them after your check was cashed?

I got my interview invite on 11/24. So it was about 15 weeks.

I wouldn't read too much into it though. It's easy to wind yourself up thinking about all of the what-if's.

If you have a question, call the admissions office.

It'll make you feel better 😎

My check was cashed pretty quickly, but I've been complete for 8 weeks, and when called today they said most likely another 3-4 more before I'll get a decision...which of course is the same as what they've said at 4 weeks, 6 weeks etc...why they bother giving us meaningless time frames I will never understand.

Because it's better than saying "we don't really know either..sorry.." 😛

At least when I call they give me a slightly shorter time frame each time. It went "6-8weeks", "4-6 weeks", and now I'm at 3-4. Still makes no sense, but they're obviously trying to make it seem legitimate by shortening the time frame each time.

Well, I took comfort in the fact that she sounded slightly chagrined this time...it must get hard to keep knowingly feeding us BS with a straight face. They're always nice though, have to give them that. 🙂

I just got an email from UW:

I got in! 😱

Just to give you all some data:
I got my interview invite 2 weeks ago.
Went on my interview 6 days ago.
Got put under consideration 3 days ago.
Got accepted 5 minutes ago.

There is a lot of waiting. But when it happens, it happens fast.

Good luck everyone!

Congrats! That's great!

The quick invite -> interview time is a little scary - I'm coming from the EC, I hope I don't get mugged on the airline tickets (although that'd be a great problem to have in the big picture 😀).

Holy crap that's fast. Congratulations on your acceptance!

I got my email stating that I was complete on 9/23/08 (delayed because I had some issues with one my letters of recommendation writers).

It was a nine week wait from being complete to getting an interview invite.

and are you IR?

Yep. In state.
