I actually called about this and was told not to worry about marking it on the primary (which I already had). I don't even know why its an option because you actually have to apply during your first year of med school. The admission lady said it is totally separate from MD admissions but that you can bring it up in a secondary or interview if it is something you want them to know you are interested in.


On another note: MY RESIDENCY IS VERIFIED!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOO, NOW I JUST WAIT FOR AN INTERVIEW INVITE😀

I don't know anything about Pullman but...

Its only for a year and Spokane isn't so bad. I wouldn't want to live there permanently but I think it would be worth the sacrifice to go to this AMAZING school. Plus, you will have a smaller class size which usually means more individual attention and you will form connections in Spokane which is a very good clerkship site for OB/GYN. Rents are cheaper than in Seattle and the surrounding area of Couer d'Alene is beautiful. Also, many airlines offer very cheap flights out of Spokane.

IMHO, I would do anything that would make me more competitive at UW. You are an OOR applicant that got a secondary! I know many people who would love to be in your position. You need to be as competitive as possible.

Why do you think it would be disagreeable for your bf? Will he be unable to find work?

I've spent the last 15 minutes torturing myself on mdapps looking at how incredibly unlikely an interview, much less an acceptance, is for someone like me. AAAAAAAAAAARG, stupid maneuver. 😛

They did say "Do not rank any site to which you would not be willing to be assigned for your first year of medical school."

If you absolutely can't imagine living at the other sites and wouldn't want to take the chance of getting assigned to them, it might make sense to only put Seattle. Otherwise, I'd list the others as second and third choices to be safe.

Apparently they already have started inviting. They start interviewing on Monday. Although, as far as I know, there haven't been any IR invites yet, probably because of the ~3 week verification process.

Spokane-20
Seattle-Was a little more difficult to find, but I found an estimate of 36 to 42

So I guess I jumped the gun a little about getting excited because I'm not actually complete yet. I have the "why UW" statement done but am having trouble with the autobiographical one. I definitely need to do it because I have a lot to say in addition to my PS. Anyway, I still should be complete by next week, which is faster than expected since i thought the residency thing would take a few weeks.

My application was not considered complete until my residency was verified, so I don't think you will have to be verified at this time. Perhaps if you are accepted they might ask you to verify? I'm not sure.

As far as leaving the state, once you establish residency (I assume at this point they are considering you a resident) you shouldn't be questioned unless you completely leave the state (change mailing address and everything), at which time they might have reason to question you further.

I'm relatively sure that they're not considered completely separate. I believe that you would apply as MD/PhD with MD consideration--which means that you apply as MD/PhD, and if you aren't accepted to that program, then you go into the general MD pool. Pretty much the same as how EDP works. However, I'm not positive, so its something that you might want to ask about.

Hmm.. they actually are separate. This is taken from the UWSOM MSTP website:

The MSTP admissions process and the MD-only admissions process are completely separate. If you are interested in ALSO being considered for the UW MD-only program, please submit the appropriate additional materials when/if the MD-only Admissions Office requests them of you.

Anyway, just saw your thread on the interview situation at UW. I think it doesn't hurt to call and ask for information. I actually just sent them an email telling them I will be in the area this month hoping to get an interview while I'm there (of course it's not likely to be influential but you never know). Sigh, I wish they could see how much we care about their school...

10/3 for the essays, but i had submitted other parts of the secondary before that. it's still saying i owe the app fee, even though that arrived on Monday according to Fedex.

Oh yeah, you still have a little time before being worried. That having to submit app fee by check/money is ridiculous, but I'll take paying that $35 over electronically submitting $105 for an automatic reject any day *cough BU cough*. I guess I don't have any excuses either because I work in the same building as UWSOM. 😛

I keep thinking that a rejection letter is in the mail since they said that applicants get notified "2-3 weeks after completion", but then I come back here and get a false sense of hope since everyone else is still waiting as well, when really my rejection is surely in the mail!

My completion email said "please note that evaluation may take one month or longer". Where did you see 2-3 weeks? Are you in region?

Gah! It is so frustrating to see them completing other OOS apps in days when I've already been waiting for 2.5 weeks (and poked them about it 10 days ago). 🙁 Oh well, yet more waiting practice...I'm getting good at it. Don't cry for me Argentina. ;-)

Nothing changed on my status page when I received my interview invite. It continues to say that my application is complete and instructs me to check the status frequently.

i printed each section out with the confirmation when i submitted it. that way even if my status didn't update, i had a hard copy of what i had submitted. sometimes it took a few days for the status to update.

I'm using Firefox and I found a way to solve the problem in case anyone else has this problem: 1) copy the URL for the link to your app status. 2) completely close the browser. 3) re-open browser and paste URL...
I don't know why, but this is the only way the works for me.
