I spoke to the secretary and she said that they will start sending out invites in about 2 week...I think...

The LORs should have made it there on Aug 8...so it took about 3 weeks for them to get the LORs online!

Wooaaaa I just looked online and it says mine have been received too! They also received my recs about Aug 8, are you sure yours were received today or was it earlier this week? Did you get an email notification? Now to finish their secondary.

Aug 28. No email notification...but i have been checking my status every day.

sigh i'm still checking their site diligently. my LORs were released to VE on july 31st, and USC still hasnt received them.

How long does it take to receive the secondary after you primary is verified? I was verified on the 22nd and this it the only other non-screened secondary I have not received.

I called and apparently they've been having a computer issue with the complete e-mails. But if your status is up to date, then its fine.

Is the site down for anyone else? I have been trying to log in to the file check status all afternoon and can't get in...

hmm i guess i have a week to go. did you use VE or interfolio?

update on getting complete:
so I gave them a call, and asked about my LOR's (which were released july 31). They said they received my LORs on Aug 15th, but to give them another week to get me complete, and to call back if i didnt get the LOR checkmark by then.

So all four of my check marks have been checked, and everything is in, but I haven't received an email indication that I am complete. How long does it take for them to officially mark me as complete?

finally complete!! took them 37 days to get my LORs from VE! 😱

Anyone know whether Keck has rolling admissions??

My interview invite e-mail had this fuzzy little tid-bit in it:

"You will be notified of a decision anytime from several weeks after your
interview through the end of April. Be aware that your chances of
receiving an acceptance is not determined by the date of your interview.
The class of 180 is not filled until the Admissions Committee has reviewed
the files of all interviewed candidates. As you are probably aware there
are many applicants that hold multiple acceptances and until May 15 do not
decide which school they will attend. As these applicants decide which
school they will attend additional openings become available. This process
continues throughout the summer.
"

I couldn't tell whether they were or were not. Does this mean if I already have an interview invite, I could schedule it in, say December or January and it wouldn't make a difference?

bump... anyone??

bump... anyone??

I thought USC was rolling, but it sounds more like they're semi-rolling like Michigan State. Maybe they're rolling in the sense that as soon as they've filled up X number of interview spots, they stop sending out invites because they know that they'll get Y acceptances and Z matriculating students out of those interviews. It sounds like as long as you've gotten an interview, the date is no longer as important, but I'd personally schedule it earlier just to get it over with.

bump... anyone??
Earlier in the application cycle (July), I had called the admissions office b/c I was concerned about not having all the prereqs and wondered if I should still apply. The person I talked to at that time told me that admissions were rolling and that applying earlier would be to my advantage. So. Maybe they are sort of rolling?

I don't think it will make a difference. I went by for a tour of the school and talked to one of the students and admissions officer about it. They said that it wouldn't benefit you to have an earlier interview and it wouldn't hurt to have a later one. I was kind of surprised.

copperfrog, how long ago did you get that interview invite? when were you complete?

i'm anxious to hear back from USC! Ive been complete for a little while now.

Hey ryserr... I was complete 7/29, so it's been quite a while.. and I just got the invite last Friday.

Turns out, though the only dates it offers you to schedule are the last two weeks in October.. so making it later wasn't really an option after all.

"Admissions to Keck School of Medicine" - Why is this the subject line of the email that they send to tell you that your processing fee was received? My heart started beating quickly until I realized that the email contained no good news (although no bad news, either). Damn.

those of you guys that used VE and don't have a committee letter, what did you check off on the last page, Current Pre-Medical Committee Evaluation or Current letters from two science faculty?

I called them about this because I have a letter packet sent from my university, and they told me it doesn't even matter which one you check if you are using virtual evals. I just checked "two science faculty" since that best represented what I was sending. Good luck buddy.

Just to be sure:

On the Keck application it states "recent and relevant" (q4)or just "relevant" (q5)for the experiences questions.

Given that it does not specify a date by which "recent" is determined, I am trying to ascertain whether or not experiences in high school that are relevant would still be relevant even though they are not recent.

I have a few theories:
1. things before college are never relevant in secondaries unless specifically asked.
2. Only on q5 can you include high school because recent isn't included in the question.
3. You should include high school experiences in both questions if they are relevant regarless of whether or not they are recent.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Once you get an email invite from USC, does the status page reflect this invite and do you schedule your interview at the status page?

I am asking this because I am worried about my email---I have been notified by some schools that they were unable to send me emails, and am scared that I might have missed USC. If the status page reflects any changes (invite, reject), then I am know I am okay.

Thanks all

I can't remember exactly what the status page said beforehand, but once I was invited to interview I was able to schedule the interview through the status page. So checking the status page should tell you whether or not you got the email. Good luck!

Thanks skiqueen! very prompt response! 🙂

Yeah, if you're invited to schedule an interview the option appears on the status page.

For question 5, If you're supposed to list activities related to medicine, does work experience fall under that category??

Thanks for your help!!

mzchristee and skiqueen, when was your secondary in/complete at USC? thanks!

I think that they had everything they needed by the 11th of August (the day my mcat scores came out--I submitted the secondary a few days before that) and was complete on the 15th. Hope that helps!

Does anyone know if it helps if you have a legacy at USC? Or is this just for undergrad?

Practically everyone in my family has gone to USC. I didn't see any questions in regards to this in the secondary but I plan to mention this in my "Why USC?" essay.

Every time I try to login to the USC application, it doesn't work. It looks like it's loading, but then the username/password fields go blank, the loading bars disappear, and nothing happens. The first time I accessed the application, this didn't happen, but now every time I try it (using different computers, ie, mozilla, etc.) this happens.

Any suggestions?

I think it has much more influence for undergraduate admissions since there is so specific question for it on the secondary. However it is a good idea to mention it. I know I did.

Hey has anyone received an interview this week? If so, when were you complete? Thanks!

Is it bad to write 189 words to answer the last essay question, as opposed to 250? Do you know what kind of impression that might send to the admissions committee? i feel like less words that are more concise are better than more words that are filler, but i'd love a few more thought on it. thanks!

noooope. has any one even received one recently (last few weeks). I feel like its been pretty quiet.

They set a maximum, not a minimum. They are also very picky about that max (saying, effectively, "251 words? REJECT!! REJECT!!"). Say what you need to say and get it under 250.

The USC interview is going to be a pain. I have to call and confirm my interviews the day before? Seriously? I heard they have good food though, so that makes up for it.👍 Plus its an awesome school...

is that really so bad? i think i could find the 2 minutes to call if i got an interview there! i had to do that for aecom, and i was flying from CA to NY, 8 hour flight, no time to call, you can call the day before too, its probalby just to make sure you're not flaking out on them for another school you'd like to go to more or seomthing...
