First question, yes. Second question, about 250.

Rugged as in, don't go there. Get off at University Rapid Station or take a shuttle from the airport. I'm not sure where the Glidden house is exactly, so I can't give you directions there from the University Rapid. Maybe iceman77_7 knows if Myuu doesn't.

Glidden House is actually really close to the E120 stop. If you're getting in before nightfall, I would have no qualms about walking to Glidden House simply because it's really close. Even if you get in after nightfall, the Case police station is actually right there and then you cross the bridge towards campus and you're relatively safer. To get to Glidden House, just go on Euclid Avenue towards UH (away from East Cleveland). At Mayfield/Ford Road (.4 miles from the station according to Google Maps), turn right. Go down Ford Road for .2 miles and Glidden House will be on your right.

That's still over half a mile to walk! Maybe I'm a big scaredy-cat, but I personally wouldn't do it. Thanks for the directions, I have a pretty good idea of where Glidden House is now.

Gosh.. That's a lot of people competeing for what.. about 35 spots? :scared: scared
32. But try to look at the cup as half full instead of half empty. Around 1500 people apply, and you've already made it through the first cut into the top 250. 🙂

Yeah, it definitely doesn't seem like half a mile when I think about the route in my head, but that's what Google Maps spits out. At the same time, the University Circle RTA stop is a 1.1 mile walk.

Very true. I was thinking, if my flight got in after dark and I was absolutely set on taking the RTA to Glidden House, probably what I would do is get off at University and get a security escort across campus. But in real life, if I take a late flight in, I always get a shuttle. Personally I think the extra $30 is worth it, but I may be more paranoid about these things than most people.

Anyway, all of you applicants know your transportation options now and can do whatever you feel comfortable with.

If any of you are interested in getting some dinner after your interview on the 12th, you are hereby invited. I will be at your wrap up session, and we will figure out where to go. If no one cares, I am happy to make an executive decision. :meanie:

Say 4:30 or closer to 5? If not, I might have to catch up with you guys? I'll find out where you are going an meet you a little later? If that's OK? Anybody going, PM me if you want, and let's try and make the most of the Double Interview Night Out (DINO)

Oh, are we interfering with your personal plans???

If you're planning around the minority session, it's short. You'll probably be done by 4:15 at the latest, assuming the interview day doesn't run over. Sometimes they do. Either way, don't worry, we'll wait for you.

By the way, don't think I didn't notice that Dino is eggplant-colored. Dare to compare:

Thanks everyone for the tips. It's almost time for me to initiate Operation Eggplant (translation interview date is coming up).

I think I'll try the E120 stop. If I feel it's unsafe, I can ask for an escort at the Case police station.

Wow so much to say...! First off! Awesome...great minds think alike...and so do we! I was afraid people would not think "DEE-NO" but in stead the less drab 'DIE-NO' but you nailed it! Well played CCLCMer! Well played!

And yes call me out...
I thought it was in poor form to mention it in the public forum, but I was invited unexpectedly a few days ago to a 'minority wrap-up session' that is optional after the main session (supposedly to finish up by 4:30, but I suspect 30 minutes is far too short).

So I was caught a bit off guard by this, and I ended up doing a little investigation about WHY I was invited. I rooted around to find some interesting tidbits. Here's the scoop: It turns out I am Hispanic. My anonymous sources tell me that they are certain it is true, and to call more often, and to bundle up outside, stop eating so much, and to bring the whole family over for Thanksgiving, because they think I am keeping their grandkids from seeing them....No really just joking...anybody who looked at my profile will figure that one out!

Apparently its a quick 30 minute 'meet and greet' event that is 'optional'. But Karen Wright sent me a big apology e-mail saying she forgot to ask me when I scheduled my interview. So I feel mostly obligated to not stand them up.

Perhaps others from SDN are going to it as well, but if you guys don't want to wait, I understand! I'll give someone my cell phone number and I'll try and play catch up?!

Maybe this will give me a chance to 'slip into something a little more comfortable' 🙂 ...And I thought I could never use that phrase in an actual conversation! I can die a happy man now!

...And by comfortable I do mean white sport-coat, my 'After Hours' Rake, my dress up Birkenstocks (patent leather) and a carnation...what color was it Myuu?, I forgot!

Was it Purple...no...Mauve...no...too dusty gray ...Lavender...hmmm...no... too bright...I can't recall...something more earthy, more organic...dark purple or purplish brown...can't put my finger on it...

Definitely. 👍

If you're serious, meet us at the CCLCM admissions office at 4 PM on Monday the 12th. It's the second floor of the Education Building at Carnegie and 100th. Anyone else (students and interviewees from either program) who's going to be around is welcome to come as well.

Just be careful.

You know we like all the same cartoons!

And yes call me out...
Sorry, I didn't mean to call you out. You identified yourself as Hispanic in your profile, and I figured you knew you were Hispanic, and the school knows you're Hispanic, and Hispanics are URMs, and the minority session is right after the interview day, and as far as I know you don't know anyone else in Cleveland to stand me up for, and....please forgive me. 😳

Actually, they're usually done in a few minutes. Basically you meet with a few of the minority students and you can talk about med school stuff with them. I think you may meet with a minority faculty member as well. Don't feel obligated to go if you don't want to. It's completely to help you feel comfortable asking questions about minority student life, not something that should add to your stress level.

Pink. 😍

Strangely, I've actually been considering get a cheap eggplant pin for this interview....
Never mind a pin. If you get and wear this tie, I will personally advocate on your behalf to Dr. Mehta:

I think it's absolutely awesome that the eggplant movement remains strong and is jumping over to potential CCLCMers! Woooooohoooooo! 🙂

Were you the one who came up with eggplant as our code word? I can't remember now. But strong work to whoever did, because it's providing us with hours of entertainment on SDN (and for Myuu on interview days), and that's no small feat. 😀

Wasn't it He2?

I agree - this thread has been hilarious.

CCLCMer:

Yeah, I'll be careful if I take that route. I wouldn't want to make an unscheduled visit to University Hospital.

Hmmmm. That tie is tempting, though it would probably give me an automatic rejection. If I get the privilege of an acceptance from Case, I'll wear that tie around sometime. Have to save something to celebrate getting in. Plus, it would go well with a white coat 😛

Yes. I wrote that and you can hold me to it. If I get an accept to Case, I will wear that tie.

......this has spiraled way out of control

I didn't submit my secondary until 4 weeks after I received it. I just didn't notice the two week deadline. How much trouble is this going to cause for me?

You're fine in terms of deadlines. They suggest two weeks, but the deadline is December 15th.

Yupp. It was He2, lol Awesomeness! I love this thread. 😍

Well, I'm always glad for company at the UH ED. 😀

I'll give you TWO eggplant spirals, with goat cheese. (Wow, does anyone else think these look incredibly yummy?)

None. Think of it as more of a suggestion than a deadline. 🙂

Although if you do nothing for weeks upon weeks, we might be a little bit more proactive in taking care of withdrawing your application.😏

Where were you in July when I broke my foot?🙁
On forensic path, which would not have been a good time to hang out with me unless you had died under suspicious circumstances. 😏

Yup. Tuesday was Operation Eggplantation Day 2.

Although, I think I only had to mention eggplant twice on Tuesday (Case hoodie). Monday (Hoodie of Ultrapink Visibility +2) was triple fail.

Well, I'm sure the Cuyahoga County Coroner would appreciate your enthusiasm, but....in my highly authoritative opinion, enough other people die every day in this county to keep them busy so that your self-sacrifice will not be necessary.

...I figured you knew you were Hispanic...

Ha! no, I'm just teasing you! My bad if it didn't come out right when I wrote that. Full disclosure, I had some baba ghanoush just before typing that response, and the eggplant may have been clouding my thoughts when I responded!

I am so looking forward to the 12th and 13th...

So the CCLCM email told me to call them within 2 weeks. I got the invite yesterday and I was just wondering if I waited till Monday to call them..is that bad? I just wanted to sort everything out and plan which day is best for my interview etc.

What day is CCLCM interviewing up to now? Nov??

You will be just fine! Don't lose sleep over the weekend. You got the invite...celebrate this weekend! Call them next week...

Good, I'm SO glad we can put all of this eggplantish awkwardness behind us....

Congrats! No, it's not bad. They're busier on Mondays compared to Tuesdays because Monday is an interview day. But today is an interview day also, so it won't make a difference. What I'm trying to say is, feel totally free to call Monday if you need the weekend to plan.

What day is CCLCM interviewing up to now? Nov??
I'm not sure, but if you're only coming to CCLCM and not also the UP, you will have plenty of flexibility. It's hardest for the people who need to coordinate both invites. Either way, it's not at all worth stressing yourself about. Just figure out when you want to come, and call Karen or Denise on Monday to schedule.

How do ppl get to CCLCM? Do you guys fly or Greyhound? I know it's probably been mentioned before..but there was too much eggplant talk 😛

I guess it depends on where you're coming from and how long you're willing to sit on a bus.

I think most people drive or fly. If you want directions from the airport, look further up this page and on the last page.

anyone at case next week?
I'll be at CCLCM on monday.

Do ppl ever get CCLCM interviews, but rejected from Case itself? Also, how many ppl does CCLCM interview??
Happened to me. I got a CCLCM interview email, then I emailed CWRU asking why they didn't get back to me. My rejection letter was posted on my status page the next day.

How do ppl get to CCLCM? Do you guys fly or Greyhound? I know it's probably been mentioned before..but there was too much eggplant talk 😛
Well, since they are all either vampires or wizards, I wouldn't ask any of them.

Personally: In the most awesome 10-year-old Subaru Impreza this side of the Mississippi...

do you think I could push back an interview at both case and cclcm until jan?

Alright guys, we have a big gap ahead of us to close, because we're about 150 posts behind Mayo for the most popular secondary app thread! If the competition were based on quality of posts, Case would win hands down because eggplant is definitely more satisfying than mayo. However, in order to make this indisputable, we have to keep the sheer amount of awesomeness on this thread at a maximum! Wooooot Case! 😀

Yeah, the activity on the Mayo thread died a couple weeks ago, where as the activity on this thread still seems to be gaining momentum. I'm not sure about the whole eggplant thing, because I have never eaten one...I know I probably shouldn't have admitted that here. Can I still get into Case without eating eggplant?

Case is so kind. They informed me via email within the past couple hours that my status had been updated regarding my application to the University Program. Of course, I had already noticed my status changed 2 weeks ago while checking on my own. They just wanted to reopen those recently healed wounds. *tear*

Because Case is the best daymn medical school in the country. Am I right everyone?

do you think I could push back an interview at both case and cclcm until jan?
Yes.

Can I still get into Case without eating eggplant?
No. Eggplants are made to be eaten, not just to be talked about on late nite SDN. :nono:

I hope you're proud of yourself. By not having ever eaten eggplant, you have disappointed me, everyone else on this thread, your mother, and the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Eat an eggplant now and all will be forgiven. Eat that eggplant with raw garlic, and you'll be chock-full of antioxidants. Of course, none of us will want to be around you. 😱

By the way, "Mayo" is a four-letter word. :meanie:

Definitely. 👍

Cool, I'm on research block over at LRI so if I'm free, I'll be there. Are you thinking Table 45 happy hour or something else?

Sweet! I can't wait to meet everybody, applicants and students! I hear the local Eggplant harvest is just in too!

CCLCM has been markedly vague about where we are going. Perhaps she has a secret destination in mind? Per CCLCMer instruction, I have pencil-ed into my planner "4:00 to 4:30: Be Spontaneous".
