The packet said casual for the majority of time and business casual for the alumni dinner on Saturday night. I'm bringing an extra shirt and tie just in case though. Better to be safe than sorry.

That is correct!

Is there any news bout when the UP waitlist is coming out?
Does case's waitlist move much?

So casual for Friday night too, I guess - the packet only talked about Saturday. Myuu, how do we tell who you are? ^^

I'm also clueless when it comes to this...it was supposed to be done by the end of March.

I feel that the continued lack of information given to those on post-interview hold, has been unpleasant, at best, and unbecoming of the school at worst. I hope the process is improved for future admission cycles.

Wellll, I'll either be sporting a name tag that says "THIS IS MYUU" or one that says "<my name>, not the droid you're looking for". Granted, I could also do this in purple marker and then have some random statement about eggplants.

In either case, I will be a long-haired hapa female armed with a camera. And possibly a handheld beat machine... Possibly.

i just called the admissions office, and they told me the dean is on vacation so we probably won't find out about the UP waitlist for as much as 2 weeks. Doesn't really matter because the lady told me that hardly anyone gets off the waitlist based on the past couple years and this year it should be even less considering they accepted too many people. i honestly don't even care at this point.

Thats disappointing. Forgive me if I am mistaken, but didn't you get in off of the hold list last week?

You can go ahead and add grievous, cat-induced upper abdominal wound to that list of descriptors.:cry::cry:

Sorry to hear about the wait list situation.🙁. Keep in mind that it's still April and as such a lot can change. Don't give up hope.:luck:

Wow, I am thoroughly unimpressed by the way the admissions office has handled this.

It happens more often than you might think. In fact, I think all Ohio schools operate this way(i.e. over-accepting resulting in small WL movement).

Why is that? Every school over-accepts for their class size. I understand if you hate the school because you got waitlisted (I hate the schools I've been waitlisted at) but just realize this is the game of admissions and probably couldn't be any different.

A few reasons:

1) At my interview, I was told post-interview holds would be re-examined in January for acceptances, and only after that for waitlist. I realize a few have got off the hold list (or were they all April Fool's jokes? hehe), but the way it was described on interview day, many would get accepted from that list. Now, it looks as few from hold will make it to the waitlist, where few will be accepted.

2) In the e-mail received in March detailing that more acceptances have gone out than usual and that some holds will form the waitlist, we were told the waitlist would be formed in late March. Now, it looks as though it will be done, at earliest, late April. Now, I learned this from other SDN posters, and not the admissions committee themselves.

3) Just like you said rockaction, I too hate the schools I've been waitlisted at or rejected from. Hey, I'm only human.:beat:

Bottom line is that I've received better treatment from other schools, and am kind of surprised that a school as student-friendly as Case is purported to be has communicated with their applicants so poorly.

Also, I realize the emoticon I used has nothing to do with what I was talking about, but thought it was funny anyway. As is this one :diebanana:

Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, that second one looks fairly violent for an emoticon.

i don't understand this either. it's very frustrating.
doesn't this mean people who interviewed earlier are being penalized? because supposedly they were placed on post-interview hold only because they were not offering acceptances so early in the season.

CCLCM Second Look was a whole lot of fun. It was exciting to meet my future classmates and professors. Thank you everyone who participated in welcoming all of us to Cleveland and taking the time out of your busy schedules to share your enthusiasm for the CP. 👍

For those who didn't catch it, there is a facebook group for the incoming class. Search for CCLCM 2015 and you'll find it.

And for everyone there is a CWRU incoming c/o 2010 thread here on SDN (Thanks Meat).

The UP second look weekend was also fantastic. Very well organized, lots of fun events and lots of great people.

Hello!

Has anyone gotten off the CCLCM waitlist yet? When is the last day for CCLCM final decisions? (I know the program starts in July so it's gotta be earlier than that!)
CCLCMer or Myuu--do tell! 👍 Thanks!

It's surprising to read this, I guess more hospitals have McDonalds than I thought. Our biggest inner-city hospital has a giant McDonalds inside, and I understand the hospital revenue argument, and it's convenient, but I wish the CEO had the same attitude about the message it gives. It's just downstairs from the diabetes clinic 🙄
I agree. Some of the CEO's positions have been controversial (like when he started refusing to hire smokers a few years ago), but overall it's sending the kind of message that we ought to be sending people.

Glad you had fun, and see you in July. 😀

Oh, and....this would be another top of the page post for CCLCMer. 👍 :meanie:

Are you asking when is the last possible day someone could get in off the waitlist? Most of the waitlist movement will probably take place in May. The last possible day you can get in off the waitlist will be the day orientation starts. If you haven't gotten a call by that morning, you should definitely be making alternate plans.

(I'm only semi-joking. There are occasional people who get into their med school right before school starts.)

Hmmm...I don't think we will make it to 5000...unless we get some crazy eggplant-like discussion started again...

maybe 4500?
Good point, we'll have to move fast if we want to get to 5000 posts before this thread become obsolete. But worst case scenario, we can just post pad our way up to 5000. +pad+

(UP) FYI, they are now making cuts from the hold list - I was just purged via email. no iapply status update.

Just got offered a spot on the wait list. Haven't decided if I'll take it yet. Just a heads up.

I was also offered a spot, and will spend the week deciding.

So is the alternate list a tier-2 holding pattern? I'm getting a little tired of the chip-on-the-shoulder attitude of Case.

I feel slighted that other schools send me a second-look and then go out of their way to woo me and at Case I first get put on hold, then I get on an alternate list, and finally I might get a call on July 7th that classes start tomorrow why don't you show up!

I think that might be enough for me to withdraw.👎 Is the name and higher tuition really worth all of it?

Also got an e-mail that I was offered a place on the WL. I'm going to take it, why not!

Also just got cut via e-mail. It sucks that after all this time waiting I got rejected, especially since I was so interested in Case after I interviewed. But I have to stay that being on hold really changed my perspective on the school, so it's a good thing they rejected me because I would have just withdrawn anyway. After being jerked around for months by Case while at the same time getting treated much much better by some of my other schools, I can honestly say that I was (badly) surprised with how Case has treated the post-interview hold crowd and that I'm happy I won't have to be jerked around for months to come waiting on the alternate list to never be accepted. Good luck to everyone on the waitlist, I truly wish you the best! Peace out.

Dude, definitely not. I just got the axe from them today after being on the alternate list for 7 months (you learn a lot about a school based on how it treats its applicants). I don't understand why anyone would pay $15,000 more per year to go a school with worst facilities and clinical sites. Don't get me wrong, Case is a research powerhouse and they will train you to be a competent physician, but their clinical training sites leave something to be desired and are just not as good as those of OSU or even Cincinnati.

I made the alternte list! Granted it's been like 6 months sine I was put on hold, but I'm still happy. I accepted my spot on the list, since there is a chance I would take it if accepted.

It has changed my perspective too, despite the fact that I like the research focus at Case. Location is also a big deal for me as well, and to be courted by other great schools in more attractive locales than Cleveland (no offense to Cleveland, and FWIW the Cavs are a great basketball team), it really has me contemplating this whole waitlist thing.

I'm on the Alternate List!!! ^_^

I'm sorry for those who didn't make it. I hope you have already been accepted at another great school!

I understand that the chances are still somewhat narrow, but I still could not be happier right now! 😀

Received the call from Dean Franco this morning! :soexcited:

I was actually sleeping then (8am Pacific), so when I answered the phone I wasn't fully conscious, but afterward it was impossible to fall asleep again.

I'll be withdrawing from the UP soon, so good luck to those of you still waiting there.

Both revisits were awesome. I appreciate having the tour of Cleveland both when it was snowing and when it was sunny. 🙂

I also just joined the Facebook group.

Sorry to hear that Jay, I understand some of this is just sour grapes, but your post does need to be corrected a bit for the record: :caution:

CCLCMer said:
It's not true that UP students have to do their rotations mostly through UH. They can do their rotations at CCF or Metro just like we can. In case anyone missed my announcement in the other thread, it's also not true that CCLCM students have to do their rotations mostly through CCF. Case has three teaching hospitals (UH, CCF, and Metro) plus the VA. Students from ANY of the three Case programs (UP, CCLCM, and MSTP) can do their rotations at ANY of the three main Cleveland hospitals.

😕Ranking doesn't mean that much to me, but by the lastest data I have available to me put CCF at #4 and OSU around #21 overall. Not to mention Rainbow Babies is a top 10 peds hosptial and was something like #2 for neonatal care. Throw in an excellent Emergency Department at UH and the VA to boot....

I can't argue on the money issue. For me it was a wash. But your statements about facilities are dead wrong.

I was impressed with Cincinnati as well...but it was not for me, so I declined a long time ago. And I literally just got off the phone after turing down a full-tuition scholarship to OSU to attend Case.

Yes, I will be in the CP, but as CCLCMer notes and I have heard time and again, after the first 2 years, we are all afforded the same opportunities. We are ALL Case med students.

Be happy down the street at OSU or in Cincy. Both are awesome faciliticies and made my top list. Just don't poo-poo us here in Cleveland for no really good reason and with baseless claims - it spreads mis-information that's hard to tamp down.

Auriga!! We both made it on the waitlist! Awesome! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Excited to be on the Alternate List!

Not sure how many people get off of it, didn't sound like too many from Oasis's posts.

Fingers crossed!

Was offered a waitlist spot as well. I know some schools say you should turn in all your financial aid documents even if you are on the waitlist. Is Case the same way? I had my Fafsa sent to them, but that is all I have done so far. Any thoughts?
