Wow, August was very good to you 😀 Congratulations!!! I know you'll get in somewhere with all those invites, I'm so happy for you. I wish you the best of luck with them. Would you be able to tell me how your Case interview goes? I'm interviewing there on Oct 19th and I love the school so I'm trying to prepare for it as best as I can. Hoping I'm not thrown off by any wierd questions 😛 Take care and kick some butt in your interviews!

I'm trying to prepare for my interview for UP and also gain some general insight about Case so if any of you current Case students wouldn't mind answering a few of my general questions, could you please PM me? I have gone through the interview feedback thread but am looking for any help I can get 😀 Thanks so much in advance!

Does anyone have any idea how many people are interviewed and then how many are ultimately accepted at College and/or University programs?

hey does anyone know if case/cclm have maxes on their recs? I know they have a range but I wasn't sure if that's just a suggestion or a limit.

Never mind, I found this info earlier in the thread.

Grrr...I really want an interview here. Complete 8/18 and still nothing for either UP or College track

Don't worry too much. I was complete like August 1st and just got both interviews last night.

Rejected here from the UP, what the heck, I applied like last week and i just check the website today and it says unable to grant interview. They didn't even have time to look at my application which is kind of BS. And the letterhead when you click on the link is dated "September 8, 2009." They pretend like you would not notice it till then. My stats are not that bad... either
No, they look at every application. Case is a school that cares a lot about fit. Even if your stats are great, they might still decide you weren't a good fit. Sorry that happened to you, but with great stats, I'm sure you'll get plenty of love from other schools.

Weird stuff, I completed about the same time as you did, got invited earlier, but my earliest date was 11/16! Do they offer dates based on how much they like you or do they simply offer all available dates and someone rescheduled his/her 9/15 one?
The second thing.

I wish they would let me schedule it to early October so I can do both Case and OSU at the same time, anyone think they'd let me do that?
Ask them to let you know if someone else cancels or reschedules. Or maybe see if you can reschedule your OSU invite to November?

CCLCM invite maybe?
Definitely not. We don't interview that early.

I was complete Aug 6, no news from case or cclcm =( what does that mean???
It means you're still being reviewed.

My status shows as Hold for interview. Any chance I might get interview later. Anyone in a similar situation? Any thoughts on my chances?
Yes, you might get an interview later, but no one can tell you what your chances are. If you have some new accomplishments (new grades, new poster presentation, whatever), it probably wouldn't hurt to update the admissions office.

It's a limit. But if you have some kind of special circumstances that you think makes it necessary to send additional documents, you should call the offices and ask for permission to send them.

Congrats to everyone who has interviews!

Anyone with a similar hold for interview position? Anyone with past experience with this situation. At least I feel good that they have not totally rejected me and hope they will grant an interview down the road.

Hold tight. I was complete 8/31 last year and didn't get one until October.

Just got an interview for both programs. 😀

Before I call and bug them, what are the earliest dates people are scheduling for the UP at this point? Also, am I correct that pretty much whatever date I set for the UP interview will have a CCLCM date near it? The fact that my email says to set up the UP int. first makes me think this is true.

nice job! when were you complete?

you are basically going to do a monday tuesday interview thing. monday cclcm tuesday UP. most thursday/fridays were taken in november so im not sure

OK cool. I might try to do a December date anyway, so Th/F might still work for me.

Just mdapp-stalk him 😀 7/23

👍

CCLCMer, I wonder if you can comment on this:
Will interviewing in December when November dates are still available hurt my chances at CCLCM (or the UP, if you can answer)?

No. Just make sure you interview before the end of interview season. 😀

Seriously, there's not a huge advantage to interviewing earlier at CCLCM. I've posted before about how our semi-rolling system works, so if anyone wants to read the explanation, just search this thread for the word semi-rolling. The end result of the semi-rolling system is that even people who interview on the last possible day in late February are still interviewing for open seats. So for CCLCM, just schedule your interview on whatever day works best for you. As for the UP, they're on a regular rolling system, so you might not want to wait until the very end of interview season to interview there if you can help it. But my interviews were both in January and I was accepted to both programs in February, so I think December would be more than early enough.

Awesome. Thanks for your help.

I was rejected.

No matter how hard I think, I can not come up with a good reason that they didnt even consider me for an interview. I will be away from my family of their decision for 4 years🙁🙁.
My stats were 36, and 4.00, and with so many reasons to go case western, I keep wondering why I didnt get an interview?

No idea man, but with those stats you will SURELY get interviews at plenty of schools...sometimes admissions committees really are very random =/

Max,

I feel your pain. Check out my post in the Wayne State thread. They rejected me outright, didn't even offer to let me do a secondary. I have a wife who works and three children in school (ok one in preschool). Talk about a disruption! We will all most likely be uprooted and moving now. My wife is a grad from Wayne's law school, I'm in state, etc...

Hey, it's a human and imperfect process. I am grateful because I have interviews. Period. I tried my best, I have no regrets! Onward and upward!

Chin up!

wow. this sucks. it really makes you wonder what these schools are thinking. I hope you don't have to relocate too far, man.

It indeed does. I am sorry guys! This process is very random and I am sure there is nothing wrong with your application that led to these decisions. Just that sometimes schools conclude that you wouldn't be a good fit without paying attention to other factors that maybe very important. Both of you are great applicants and I am sure you will do well this cycle! Good Luck! :luck:

I don't think any of us can really tell you. If you don't get in anywhere by this spring, you could call the admissions office and ask. But with your academic record, I can't imagine that you'll need to do that.

It's hard when you get a shock like this, but you have to stop beating yourself up. Even the best applicants get some rejections that seem to make no sense. It sucks, no doubt about it, especially when you have your heart set on a specific school for whatever reason. But this is why you don't only apply to one medical school, right? I felt the exact same way about the first school that rejected me as you do about Case. But if I had gotten into that school, I would never have applied or interviewed at Case/CCLCM. I probably wouldn't have even been aware of CCLCM's existence. So for me, that early rejection was a blessing in disguise. What I am trying to say is that after you have some time to think about it more, maybe you will decide that going away from home for med school could be a good experience after all. Maybe with your stats you will even get a scholarship to go somewhere else. I hope you do. :xf:

You have a great attitude. It's a huge deal for anyone to walk away from their life and start over from scratch somewhere new, but especially someone like you with a family. When I first applied, I would have never guessed that I would end up in Cleveland, a city I could barely find on a map, located in a state I had never even visited before I came for my interviews. Of course, things are a lot more complicated for you because of the family issues that you mentioned, which I didn't have to deal with. But it was still a big and unexpected change even for me!

I recently joined this forum after visiting it for some time. Max, after reading you post I have to say "chin up," this process is so random. You see people with great stats being rejected for no obvious reason. Looking at your stellar stats I see you worked hard and I'm sure you'll get into a good medical school. Wish you the best!
Good post. 👍

The application process is often unpredictable and never something you can choreograph perfectly like it's a production of Swan Lake. Hang in there, you guys. :luck:

Thanks! Yeah, my attitude towards schooling is much different than when I was an undergraduate.

I "ended up" at Univ. of Michigan in undergrad, my one and only "backup school" because I received an unsolicited full scholarship. I got into, and was frankly obsessed with, MIT. I had a huge chip on my shoulder for my first year at Michigan. I think it affected all my personal relationships, my attitude towards learning, pretty much every aspect of my life.

Retrospectively, At Michigan I met my future wife, the mother of my three awesome kids, with whom I just celebrated my tenth anniversary! I had fun and learned to love Ann Arbor and Michigan!

How foolish and immature was I for begrudging them for giving me a scholarship?! How stupid is that? Think about how many people would have killed for that!

The positive attitude I developed afterward I now apply towards medical school.

Admissions is:
1) A human and imperfect process
2) An honor, not a birth right

I set out on this journey hoping to be in accepted ANYWHERE, let's be honest. Plus, I just hoped to be the guy who graduates last in his medical school class at that school. I am not going to get 'greedy' and expect more than that. If it happens, cool. If not, so be it.

...you know what they call the person who graduates last in his medical school class, right?

You know what they call the person who doesn't graduate in their medical school class? 😉

After over a month of deliberating (bad, I know), I just added Case. Do you guys still think I have a decent chance, or did I just waste $31?

is there a status page im missing or something?

Don't worry, you've got an excellent shot at an acceptance with those stats. The process is random, and each school is looking for specific things. It doesn't mean you aren't qualified.

All the people who paid full price to go to MIT, no doubt. 🙂

I'm sure you're going to do well. Seriously, you sound really together, plus Case loves the bent arrows.

Gramps?

You know what they call the person who doesn't graduate in their medical school class? 😉
I believe we are called "lifelong learners." 😀

Even better.

When do interviews for CCLCM begin?
On the 25th.

After over a month of deliberating (bad, I know), I just added Case. Do you guys still think I have a decent chance, or did I just waste $31?
Well, it depends on your app. If it's crappy, then it doesn't matter how late you apply. :meanie:

Seriously, you'll be fine. Probably in a few weeks you'll be posting here about how you got an invite, and then everyone else who was complete in July and is still waiting to hear something will freak out. 😛

is there a status page im missing or something?

when i log in, nothing about hold, rejection, or invite 🙁
Which program are you asking about? If it's CCLCM, they'll only communicate by email and snail mail, never Iapply. If it's the UP, they do communicate by Iapply, but they probably just haven't made a decision about your app yet.

Admissions is:

I agree 👍. Even if one has high stats, it doesn't guarantee you a spot at any particular medical school. No matter how good one's resume is, medical school is a privilege, not a right. Well said!

Sorry, but the process is anything but random.

It seems random from the applicants' side a lot of times. But I think you're right that it's not random from the adcomm's side.

On the iapply application status page, the information you seek should be nestled about halfway down, with completion status just above and below the blue "University Track" bar.
