I got rejected from Case, and didn't apply to CC.

I have a question though. So is the Cleveland Clinic it's own medical school?

If so how many students do they take? is it very very hard to get in? does it have a research focus.

peace out.

All of your questions are answered here.

Troll the whole thread, I think you will see many words of encouragement for applying if you are interested in research and medicine!
As far are the relationship:
CCLCM of CWRU "...represents an historic academic partnership deisgned to train phyisician investigators. Established as a joint endeavor between the Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University..."

I can't comment on how hard it is to get into, but a quote from the brochure:
"In each year of its existence, the Lerner College of Medicine has attracted top candidates from pre-eminent undergraduate programs who compete for just 32 spots in the school. The school's applicant pool has grown from 600 in 2004 to nearly 1500 today."

I'm working on writing a case report on a certain pathology a page in a major medical journal. The attending I'm working for and I have already been in touch with the guy who is in charge of this page, and we have planned to have an article in for publication in late spring 2010. Since I've been in direct contact with the guy running it (who btw is from Case Western), does this sound like a solid update? I mean I'm pretty sure this is a publication (albeit non-research) slated to happen. I'm on hold at Case...

We plan it that way on purpose. :meanie:

All the rest of you, synchronize cell phones for the next secret SDN Case thread meet-up....and remember, don't tell vc7777!

My fragile ego can't take this kind of abuse. So instead I am making up an elaborate counter-theory that Case is a Vampire Medical School along the lines of Hogwarts...You are all nocturnal, and you secretly attract vampire pre-meds, who a busy off-line during the day resting or trying to score self-tanning solutions in bulk.

Think about it...if you are going to be coming and going at odd-hours, all pasty-white looking half-dead with blood splattered all over you, professing the need for more people participating in blood drives...why not be a med student? Reminds me of Dr. Acula from Scrubs...

Were you put on hold initially or was it a straight rejection?

The fact that they asked me my blood type on the secondary should have tipped me off sooner! This theory is getting more traction! Yes, this alternative to mass, social rejection by a group of people I don't even know will do just fine...

Wait until the case report has officially been accepted by the journal before you send the update.

Wow, now we're going to have to hunt you down, and....well, you know the rest. :diebanana:

I'm going to be up all night most of this week because my next few shifts are overnight, starting tonight. The UH campus is just so beautiful in the moonlight....

Ha! HMD, You must be referring to CCLCMer, because I have never been accused of being 'awesome'....I've been watching you here and there on all the threads, and I've looked at your profile...Dang! I have half a mind to suggest you and I should carpool to our interviews! 🙄 No, this thread certainly is a happening place...when I'm not around!

Dang! There sure is a lot of things similar in our profile. We should carpool to Vampire school (if I ever get an interview)! We'll need all the help to survive eggplant, CCLCMer & others 🙂

:uhno: There is no Hogwarts. I don't know what you're talking about. There's nothing to see here, just keep moving along..

Ha! I knew it!

First question: Do CCLCM people belong to one or more of these societies?

Second question: Please tell me it isn't the Hufflepuff-equivalent society...bunch of pansies....:meanie:

Third question: It says "...all four years will be represented in each society, there will be cross-communication between years one through four..." ...which implies.... Prefects! All right 'fess up.... which of you out there are the prefects...hmmmm?

Can you guys divulge your societies, or not? You can tell me...CCLCMer; ever the ambassador to the college program has already threatened, neigh promised, to kill me...

On a serious note, how much do you guys interact with these societies?

CCLCM does not have a society.

Satcher = Gryffindor, Blackwell = Hufflepuff, Robbins = Ravenclaw, Wearn = Slytherin.

We are our own society.😉

As I always like to tell you when you write these ten-part posts, N/A!!!

Fourth years are too busy applying right now to worry about policing first years.

We don't. Since our program is so small (160 people total), and we have physician advisors (1 PA per every 5-10 or so students), there isn't really any need to have societies for CCLCM. Each of the Case societies is about the size of our whole student body!

Wtf.

:boom:

Gryffindor's mascot is a lion, not a griffin. Also, its color is not that unsightly orange.

It's not just based on mascot, it's based on the composition of the society and deans themselves.

Blackwell is led by Dr. McKinley, the upbeat, always positive one, a la Hufflepuff.

Wearn is led by Dr. Ricanati, who has long dark brown hair, like Snape (some may also say he resembles him in more ways than just that).

Robbins has a lot of smart/wisdom type people in it like Ravenclaw, as evidenced by their strong performance in the puzzle and mind games at last year's ISC picnic.

Satcher is dominant in the athletics like Gryffindor is with Quidditch, as evidenced by their utter annihilation of the field in all the athletic events at last year's picnic.

Well, if I'm at Case/Hogwarts, I'm definitely not either of those.:d

From ze email:

CURRENT ISC CUP STANDINGS 9/24/2009:

ROBBINS: 39
WEARN: 39
SATCHER: 30
BLACKWELL: 23

We've been invited to the ISC picnic as our own team. Maybe we're Beauxbatons!

Don't be such a hater. :nono:

Oh, and good morning to you all.

So, who else will be up all night tonight??? I'm getting ready for my next episode of the CWRUVSOM (Case Western Reserve University Vampire School of Medicine) emergency medicine rotation. 😴

By the way there is a bitch fight going on, on the Harvard link. Just adding fuel to the fire 😀
Hmm, maybe I'll check it out later if I'm bored. Though I don't have a dog to back up in a Hahvahd fight. 😛

In the meantime, I hope you have a slow shift tonight--or at the very least, a shift full of fun cases--and that I do as well. :xf:

Not Hatin'! Sorry I am 'smiley-challenged'. Back in my day, we used semicolons to separate interdependent statements, as Aldus Manutius (the Elder, of course) intended. Nowadays if I make a typo, I am afraid I might send an animated image of someone beating a small burro over the internets to PETA! I'm certain there is a standardized and seemingly random keystroke combination that turns into Da Vinci's "Last Supper"...something like this, I imagine:

___|-|-|-|-|-|-'|'-|-|-|-|-|-|___

Off topic: Anyone out there read Eats, Shoots, And Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation? Written for Brits, but the majority of it applies to this side of the pond as well.

Hmmm...What category you working in tonight? Sunday night...could be worse, could be Monday...

The category of whatever comes in. Which, if it's like last night, will be mostly abdominal pain. Abdominal pain is tough because the differential is so long. You have a dozen organs in there, all of which can hurt. And if it's a woman, there's all the gyn stuff too. Now adding eggplant-gravid uteruses (uteri?) to the list....

Order the ultrasound to rule out Eggstones.

Dang, haven't checked in a day or two and this thread has completely lost me.

🙂 [I'll stick to the simple smilies]

Nice! But those can be the more interesting cases...I watched a doctor diagnose an NSTEMI that presented as classic cholecystitis two weekends ago...all RUQ pain and positive manual Murhphy's sign.

Complete over 1.5 months ago, but no news/updates on the status page. I also applied to CCLCM. Does that have any bearing on the lack of update??

I am on a similar boat. Complete about 5 weeks ago and no news. Also applied to CCLCM.

Does anyone know how many "waves" of CCLCM interview invitations have gone out, and when the next one will be sent? I'm not sure if it's monthly, bimonthly, etc. process.

Thanks 🙂 Good luck to all still waiting!

I believe CCLCM just had their first interview date, so there is plenty of time and hope ahead. 👍

same here. Applied to both normal and CCLCM program, complete in late August and no news yet. I called them last Friday and the lady said if I dont here back within 8 weeks after being complete, I can call them again. So I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed for now, both hands and feet.

So my student host has Spanish class today and I'm chilling at Case right now. Pumped for tomorrow! I'm sorry you got stood up, epic eggplant fail style, lol

Thanks robocop and DapperDan (it feels so weird to type these names out...)!

Good luck to all! :luck:

OMG MYUU I HEARD U SAY EGGPLANT RIGHT WHEN U LEFT AHHHHHHHH

I was sitting on the couch talking to anoher interviewee.... There were girls in there earlier and I suggested that instead of coffee, we have a buffet table with eggplant.... Sadly it wasn't u 🙁.

Wait. Was this in the morning when I mentioned eggplant? Or when Dr. Mehta came in and I mentioned eggplant?

Perhaps I will see some of you tomorrow!

Hey, LTTP and BB! Good luck to both of you! Beat 'em down into submission so they are push-overs when the rest of us get into town! 👍 Honestly, best of luck to you both. BBender, you know that if the folks in Cleveland have as much fun in person as they do on-line, you'll fit in fine 😉 And LTTP, as the non-trad out there, show them what a "bent arrow" can do!
