On hold. (UP) Gnt. Well...at least not a rejection!!!

*skipping stones on the river of optimism*

So, are my fellow hold-ees CCLMERs or UPers? Shall we begin an official support group? I'll bring brownies.

Maybe your letter hasn't come yet. As far as I know, everyone is getting some kind of letter (rejection, hold, or high hold).

You're completely right. 🙂 I went home and checked my mail, and there it was - I'm on high hold! Seeing as how it's the best outcome I can hope for so far having not been accepted outright during the first round, I'm definitely glad.

My fellow on-holders, good luck to all of us! At least I have distractions during the earlier part of next week, so I won't go completely insane. :luck:

Yes, that's what it means. I don't know how many people are on hold right now, or even how many people are on high hold versus hold. But if you are on hold, then you are still being considered. The next subcommittee meeting is on Tuesday, and again, approximately ten people will get accepted. Dean Franco will call the accepted people later in the week, like on Thursday or Friday.

Oh good! I was worried this meant that I wouldn't have a chance until after all the acceptances had been sent out and somebody declined their spot. Now I'm really excited again! I need to find a way to forget that the committee is meeting next week...

Case does have a Sim Center, but we mainly have used it for our OSCEs. These are practice Step 2 exams where you see standardized patients. We also used it for our bridge week at the beginning of third year to do things like learn to suture, do venipuncture, etc. There are mannequins like what you're describing at CCF. I was practicing intubating them a few weeks ago as part of a research project I was asked to participate in. Also, when I was on peds, we ran a mock code on a sim child mannequin like what you're describing. As far as I know, though, the med students don't normally use them in a lab per se. At least, we haven't so far.

So far, we first years over on the UP side have done certain physical diagnosis activities with standardized patients there as well as learned to do pap smears and catheterization. Fun with endoscopes we learned at UH, though.

Good luck to everyone on hold!

Does everyone who is accepted to the UP get invited to fill out the merit scholarship application?

Ha, you can just call me Miss Cleo. 😛
Good luck, man. I hope things work out for you. :xf:

Nope, there are still 20 open seats, and around ten of them will be filled next week.

You missed out on the first round, JTJ, but there's plenty of time to jump in on the eggplant discussion we were having a month or two ago while we're all waiting. So, what is your favorite eggplant dish? I had eggplant curry not too long ago. It was so good that it's making my mouth water just to think about it....

Ha, we cathed the models too, and they really pee out yellow fluid when you place the cath in the bladder. Let's see, what other fun things did we learn from models....ok, probably the best one was that I delivered a rubber baby from a rubber pelvis, after which I delivered the rubber placenta, which was attached to the inside of the rubber pelvis with velcro. Now that I've delivered some real placentas, I can tell you that delivering a placenta is nothing like removing a rubber placenta that is velcroed to the inside of a rubber pelvis!

Congrats on your acceptance, Jenny. 😉 No, not everyone gets invited to fill out the scholarship app.

oh they are sending letters? what happened to emails? i have the change my address on amcas again.

are they sending these letters to the permanent address or the current address given in amcas?
thanks

Congratulations!

Speaking of practicing on simulation models, I actually got to play with one of those during my shadowing experience. It was the end of the demonstration and the salesman was too busy talking to some of the doctors to notice me. I tried to intubate it, alas, the fellow I was with told me I stuck the tube down its esophagus. I guess that's why I'm not a doctor yet...

may have caused a wee bit of gastric distension, lol

CCLCM's hold letter was quite possibly the best hold letter I've seen this cycle lol

Thanks for the advice CCLCMer. I just finished emailing admissions asking for a biochem course list!

Hi CCLCMer!

I too received a hold letter. Will we be considered at the subcommittee meeting this coming tuesday or the next batch of acceptances in feburary?
lol fluffy rabbit! haha that's too funny

Poo. Placed on hold. At least it saves me from having to make a hard choice!

Also...they got back to me really fast, I interviewed last Tuesday 1/12. Impressive! Every med school should follow their example 😛

Congratulations!

Eh, intubation can be pretty hard to do, especially on those models. Granted, that also means you don't break any teeth, so I suppose there's a tradeoff...:laugh::laugh:

Just a tad. :d

Anyone know how often the UP reviews apps and makes new decisions? The way I understand it, they still consider the "hold" students each time they have a committee meeting and send out new acceptances, correct? They don't create a wait list until the end of season and all acceptances are sent out, right?
I've been reading all this and still am confused. Or maybe the proper term is insecure >_<

I've seen a few times the actual ER docs have intubated the esophagus instead - it happens to the best of em, so don't sweat your first time hahaha Have you seen a real intubation? It is actually really pretty violent of a procedure on an actual patient. The docs have let me stick my head over their shoulder and watch from their angle and I've only seen one time it went smoothly in on the first insertion. Makes me happy for mannequins...and there's no fear of breaking teeth when practicing!

does anyone know how many people get off hold at this point?

I also received a letter that said that i was placed on hold. 🙁
Interviewed in 1st week of November.

That's slow! I only interviewed 2 weeks ago. I can imagine your strife waiting so long.

And btw I love your avatar so very, very much.

Geez, so all the flights out of Sandy Eggo were canceled and now I can't make my Cleveland interview. Had to reschedule and deal with airline issues. Blerg

Yes, they've sent out letters to everyone.

That I can't tell you. If you didn't get a letter, you might want to call your parents (or whomever lives at your permanent address).

You might not be. There are quite a lot of Cali people who interview and go to school here.

She's talking about CCLCM, not UP.

Speaking of which, guys, it would be really helpful if you would mention which program you were talking about in your posts so that they make sense to the rest of us. 😛

Sorry, Reggieray2k. 🙁

If it's any consolation, I got definitive word today that you wouldn't have made it in time for consideration at next week's subcommittee meeting anyway. Only people who interviewed up to and including today can be considered. People who interview tomorrow (Friday 1/22) or later will be up for the February subcommittee meeting.

Oh, and one more totally non-Case related thing....if any of you have a blackberry, make sure you back it up regularly. Mine wiped itself out today, and I lost my entire address book and calendar. 🙁

Agreed! It's been confusing sifting through this thread, as I've been reading up to the point I joined in, and figuring out if the pearls of wisdom in this thread apply to UP or not...

That really, really sucks. I'd flip out. Speaking of Blackberry, a somewhat Case-related question for current students: what cell phone companies do you guys use that still function normally in the hospital(s) and in the school building? My hospital swallows T-mobile signals but Sprint works fine, so I'm wondering if it's just my hospital or my old phone. I can renew contract anytime now, so I'm asking students at the schools that I 😍 what carriers work well there...

ROFL I just realized...I went to celebrate at a nice Italian restaurant after my Case interview, and I had the eggplant parmesan. I hadn't had a good one in years but a student recommended it to me. It was the best Italian dishI had EVER had, and I am a huge Italian food fan. Not to mention it was the size of my face and lasted 2 meals and I still couldn't finish it. So yes there is obviously some strong connection between Case and eggplants. Botany expert, anyone?

Case students are like eggplants...rather unassuming at first glance...but a member of the nightshade family...deadly if you look at it the wrong way... :ninja: Crouching Eggplant...

I liked the Table 54 eggplant recipe across the street from CCLCM:
Roasted Eggplant and Tomato Napoleon with Feta and Mozzarella Cheese, Lebanese Style Yogurt Sauce, Pomegranate Syrup and Toasted Pine Nuts

My experience has been that it's more phone-dependent than anything. I have Verizon, and the first phone I had, which was ancient, didn't work well at all. The blackberry gets pretty good reception everywhere except when I was on EM. But UH's ED is in the basement, so that's kind of understandable.

Sounds like we're still on for that Eggplant Potluck!👍
Oh, yeah!

...as I recall...You were hosting, CCLCMer was bringing the EtOH and Iceman paying for the DJ? Did I remember that right?
You know I can't bring the drinks. I'm underage!

So here's a funny thing. This morning, I got an email from Denise telling me that my interviewee couldn't get out of San Diego and had rescheduled their interview. Looks like I was going to be your student interviewer. 😛

Post interview Hold would be interesting to know as well. ty👍

Agreed. Do any Case students know have any information on hold list movement, or when they will be making decisions regarding on-hold applicants?

I do believe that's correct.😀

I had a RAZR on Verizon that didn't work terribly well anywhere at all in Cleveland. I'm on AT&T with an iPhone now and get reception everywhere except inside the hospital.😳

:meanie:

It could have been the one interview where being nerdy actually would have helped.

I blame Southwest Airlines, do you think I can get them to pay my med school tuition?

Wow, that's gotta suck. 🙁

I don't know about other phones, but Android phones have this really cool feature where they can import all your contacts from Facebook, ie. their phone numbers, email addresses, and profile photos, which is nice assuming most of your friends do put that information on there.

when you guys are talking about "high-hold" and "hold", which one are you guys referring to? CASE or CCLCM?
I haven't received any letter from CCLCM, no phone call, no email after my interview in Oct.
I saw eailer posts that all letters have been sent out.
Is my letter missing? 😕 or should i wait more (since im in Canada...snail mails take forever to come here!!! 🙁)
Rejections letters have been sent out too right?

I was talking about Case UP. I too am in Canada, and snail mail from the US really does take so long to get here. It's weird, I used to get rejection letters from the US pretty promptly...

Seriously though, can anyone provide any insight on Case post-interview holds?

There seems to be a lot of confusion when people are posting lately.

Hmmm....here's a thought...
perhaps we can use the title to identify which program we are talking about in our posts?

Probably won't work. But worth suggesting.

I am pretty highly sure that the high hold only refers to the CCLCM(College Program).

The [UP] post interview Hold is so frustrating. There is literally no information on what and when they will do with us. Basically limbo, without a time frame.... Kinda mean! 🙁

I feel ya man. I thought I read earlier in this thread that they'll start re-reviewing holds in late February... could be wrong but that sounds plausible to me.

In all honesty, the two programs are separate enough entities to warrant separate threads. just saying... maybe for future cycles

There are separate threads already.

(Which is not to say that anyone uses the CCLCM thread...)

Right...

OK,

Let's start this thread:

Has ANYONE received an invitation for CCLCM yet?

I think it is worth asking explicitly at this point since this Case and CCLCM have been a combined thread up until now...

Yeah....that lasted about a month...

Maybe it's time to resuscitate the thread for clarity's sake?

Oh, not to worry, it will still help. All the students here are nerdy. 😉

You should check with your parents if you're away at school. The letter might have been sent to them. Or, it may just have not come yet since you're international.

All that people have to do is mention in their post which program they're talking about. Just two little extra letters for UP, and five for CCLCM. It's not that hard!

There's a "high" hold??? [UP]
*sniff*
I am pretty highly sure that the high hold only refers to the CCLCM(College Program).
Right.

It's a pain to have separate threads, because then people post here anyway, plus post there. Have a little mercy.

You go have fun posting in there with all of your friends. :meanie:

Seriously, it hasn't been an issue up to this point; there are a lot of questions that pertain to both programs; a lot of people have applied to both programs; I don't want to have to read every question and post every answer or announcement twice; and I think a bunch of smart people who are about to become medical students like all of you are capable of stating which program they're talking about.

Oh, and Myuu, are we going tomorrow night?

Hi All
I am interviewing at both UP and CCLCM this week on Thurs and Fri flying in Wed night and leaving Fri evening. I have written to some current students on the student host site over the past month but have either not recieved a reply or hosts are busy with exams. I would perfer to stay with a student host, :xf: but will hotel it. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I would like to get a current student perspective while I am in Cleveland.............

OK so I need to reschedule that interview I missed (maybe get you again CCLCMer 😀)

What is the optimal time frame I'm looking at here for a date? Somewhere before the end of February? That'll put me in the same boat I was interviewing on the 22nd?

so this Tuesday is the big subcommittee meeting where interviewees get accepted. gluck everyone!
