they told us when i interviewed that it was a 1000 point scale and that after you interview they look at everything (primary, secondary, essays, interviews, etc) then give you a score. i'm not sure whether they use the same when deciding who to interview, sorry.

Anyone know if Dartmouth is still giving out interview invites?
Probably not because you had the chance to choose a double degree at the beginning of your AMCAS.
I'm not sure how it works at Dartmouth, but I know that at some schools if you get into the MD program you can later decided to apply to the MD/PhD program. I don't think it makes it any easier but it def shouldn't make it any harder... that is if you can do that at Dartmouth but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to...
Also, would you mind sharing your secondary completion date and/or your stats? Thanks!
Not very hard. You take the GMAT and as long as you do fine, it's typically not a problem. There are maybe a half dozen people in each class who do it and I don't know any of them who applied to the joint program before getting here. I don't know anyone who was rejected from the joint program (while applying as a DMS student) but that doesn't mean that no one has ever been rejected. It just doesn't seem particularly difficult to get in once you're a med student.
Just wanted to add that when I interviewed, the DMS students all said that here, you can apply to any dual degree program after you're accepted as a regular MD student, during your first year.
thanks for the info guys. I have no idea when I was complete because I never got a complete email. but i have a 3.8+ and a 35+. They seem to still be giving out invites since I got one very very recently. The latest date they offered me was march 2nd.
false, admissions guys told me that basically when they see that they go "thats nice" and forget about it. You apply in earnest later.

July 19th. Forever ago.
I called the DMS admissions office today and they informed me that invites are still going out through to Mid March. And some pre-interview rejections have been issued as well. So no news is good news I suppose.
Any December or January interviewees receive an acceptance yet?
OR, anyone from those dates (Dec/Jan) hear back about a waitlist or post-interview rejection? I think there were a few Dec waitlists earlier in the thread.

Yes - I interviewed on Jan 19th and got an acceptance on February 8th...
I understand that Dartmouth has a point system. It would be so useful, and polite for that matter, if Dartmouth made us aware of where we stand on this scale. Especially after waiting almost half of a year for a post-interview decision. Seriously?
People have lives, spouses, kids.....not everybody is fresh from college without other obligations to take into consideration. Give us some love Dartmouth.

I interviewed on Jan 14th and got an acceptance letter dated Feb. 5th. So perhaps they are starting move forward with decisions. Good luck!

Just got an invite today... but I'm not sure if I want to go though.....am I just interviewing for the WL at this point? And I already have an acceptance elsewhere ranked higher than Dartmouth...

I was complete a LONG LONG time ago....I don't even remember now...lol I think it was probably some time in July...

I'm planning on flying into Manchester, renting a car and driving up. Manchester was the only way I could get a flight out to the west coast same day after the interview - flying out of the community airport to Boston wouldn't cut it.
You're not interviewing for the WL. The director of admissions told us yesterday that they give out acceptances very sparingly until interviews are over because they want to make sure they have room for people interviewing late. By all means, though, don't come. One less person to compete with 😉
Also, I actually got to Lebanon Municpal Airport, right outside of Hanover, from Boston using Cape Air. The tiny plane was AWESOME. I heard flights get canceled a lot though- my interviewer told me the best way to get there is using the Dartmouth Coach.

It was a whole lot easier than I thought it would be, actually! I flew into Boston and took the "Dartmouth Coach" from the airport ($60 round trip). The bus ride was about 2.5 hours, and they have free WiFi and snacks on it. It's also a beautiful ride, so I would recommend doing it during the day. The bus literally takes you from the Logan airport to the front door of the Hanover Inn, which is on the Dartmouth undergrad campus. My student host was kind enough to pick me up there at 10pm, so I did not get lost at all or have to travel at night 😀
I see where you're coming from on this....Dartmouth was originally not even close to one of my top choices because of the location and the surprisingly low ranking, but the interview blew me away! I would recommend going if it's financially feasible. You'll find that the community is VERY supportive and friendly; it's a phenomenal community to train in. Their hospital, DHMC, is located in the mountains and services a large community within a 150 mile radius. The faculty members are very unique- it's not even something I can describe, you just have to experience it. The student host I stayed with contacts me periodically to see if I have questions about the school and even helped sort out a situation when my acceptance letter got lost in the mail over New Years- it's THAT supportive of a place. I have had 7 interviews so far, and I have yet to find a community that loving, except for Hopkins (maybe). Baltimore just has a different culture than Hanover because it is a big city. I realize Dartmouth isn't for everyone, but I will say that there is a strong possibility that you will be pleasantly surprised. Also, even with their relatively low ranking compared to other ivy schools, their match list is REALLY impressive: http://dms.dartmouth.edu/admissions/who_comes_to_dartmouth/match_results/
Ultimately, it's your choice to not take an interview that many other students would kill for, but hopefully my comments give you some food for thought 😛

It's a hard school not to love...and I tried really hard not to love it because it's so far away from anything I am used to. I hope you have a similar experience!

The environment at Dartmouth is quite unique due to its location.
I was surprised with the drive to Dartmouth from Boston as it took 3hours of driving into the woods literally.
Anyway, the staff there is very welcoming, and I got assurance that you won't get any less of an education at Dartmouth than any other place.
Their hospital isn't huge, but they do get wide arrays of patients from the new england area.
As for ranking, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. The issue came up during the information session, and the dean of admissions noted that the rankings are based primarily based on the $$ that the school got for research. If you look into per faculty ratio of the $$ distributed for research, Dartmouth actually competes with top research ranking schools. Therefore, each research being funded are quite impressive in terms of quality, and students are welcome to join in for research during their school years.
So I personally liked Dartmouth, and you should visit right away.

At this stage, is no news still good news as far as getting interviews is concerned?
There are only about a month of interviews left (they may extend it a bit, but not much). So, you should hear something either way pretty soon.

Interview invite today! I was complete waaaaayyyy back in August and pretty much figured I'd be receiving a disappointing letter in the mail any day now. Really excited!
