If I have two green lights and my LORs are loaded on AMCAS, I can considered my application complete, right?

I think so. That is what I have on my status page right now and I submitted my sec on 7/27.

I would STRONGLY recommend you to not do this. I heard that med school adcoms don't like it when people talk about stuff that is not yet happened except for things like future work in something you are already pursuing. Anything new that you haven't begun should not make it to your application. I think LizzyM, an adcom on SDN also advised against doing such things.

Dartmouth is one of my first choices how bad do you thinkn it looks having no ECs or job for the 2009-10 academic year. For the first prompt all I have is my courses. I worked very hard for three years and planned on taking senior year easy before starting med school.

Hm I don't know if I am qualified to answer that but in my case I am only doing research for the upcoming year because I have finished all my coursework and now just need to finish up my project and graduate. I don't think they look for like 10 different things that you will be doing. What I do think is that you should at least continue with 1 of your ECs that you are passionate about like tutoring or research or volunteering along with the courses. However, from the way the question is framed no one will question you for just having a bunch of courses on there.

Don't freak out too much about this. When I applied, all I talked about were the classes I was planning on taking senior year (I also took it kind of easy after three years of working hard) and the medical ethics internship I was doing at a hospital. The classes I planned on taking changed over the course of the year and I ended the internship a little earlier than I had planned. Neither of those changes mattered at all (it obviously didn't affect my chances of getting in). Just tell them what you're planning on doing and why. If things change then they change.

Good advice 👍

if there's no green light for the LOR portion, then how do we know our app is complete? do they send an email?

no email. lors you shouldn't worry about. if amcas has them, med schools will get them. as an extra check, if one school has gotten them, all have (or will)

haha ok, so I guess I'm complete here as well (I have the other two green lights)!

As a side note, how do these LOR things work? I mean, I submitted most of my apps already and then uploaded my LORs later on (so they had my apps, just not my LORs). do they need to manually go into my application and download my LORs? would they actually take the time to do that until they're ready to review me? I'm just asking because half my schools have marked me as complete, while the others say they don't have my letters. not that it's bugging me or anything... I'm just wondering how schools go about "receiving" your letters. thanks!

From what my UG told me, once AMCAS has them they send each school a notification that your LOR's are ready for download. Then each school has to go onto the system, download your LOR's, and add them to your file. So they're available instantly, but some schools take longer than others to go download them from the AMCAS system.

i think schools can download them from AMCAS whenever they want. they usually do this once a week or once every two weeks. and remember, just b/c they've gotten all your stuff doesn't mean they've filed it/marked it complete/let you know you're complete 🙂

What should I do if I made a simple error in my essay. I repeated a word twice, and I only caught it after submitting. Is there any way to correct this? Will it look very bad?

I did this on an application also. There's nothing we can do once it's submitted. I wouldn't worry though, I think it would only have an effect if there were multiple errors, showing sloppiness. I don't think a single error will be a big deal. Many of these applications are online and the text boxes aren't great themselves.

I really, really doubt this would be the difference between getting an interview and not. Don't worry about it. 😉

Thanks. You guys just set my mind at ease. This whole process is pretty stressful!

Just have a few questions about the DMS secondary. My sister is a internal medicine resident at Dartmouth hospital but she did not graduate from Dartmouth. The question is
4. Is there anyone in your immediate family who is a graduate of Dartmouth? Please list below with class, relationship, and school affiliation (i.e., Dartmouth College, Dartmouth Medical School, Thayer School, Tuck School).

You guys still think I should put her down.

Also this may sound stupid but when entering the courses on the secondary, it says put down college and department. I attend a large University. When they ask for college should I put down the name of my university or should I put down the college of arts and sciences?

a) don't put it down. you answer to the question "Is there anyone in your immediate family who is a graduate of Dartmouth?" is no. it's something to bring up at interviews though..or somewhere else in the secondary.

b) put the name of the university

Last year the earliest Dartmouth interview invites went out 8/25. I hope there is no delay this year either... I've been waiting for a long time!

So I didn't get a secondary invite, but I went to their website and was able to successfully log-in with my AMCAS ID and last name...So I can submit, right?

They don't screen applicants, but you should probably call the office first to double check. Maybe your invite email got swallowed by the spam gods.

:spam: - FEED ME, SEYMOUR!

So a few hours after logging in, I got the invite 😏

This kinda stuff happens so much; people complain about not getting "complete" emails and 2 minutes later the email comes. I swear SDN is run by a conglomerate adcom uber-committee to keep track of all their cattle (that would be us). I bet they run facebook too, so stop posting pictures of yourself sucking face with.... shh shhh.... they're watching.....

Hi all,

I just received my secondary, and I realized that I maybe a little short on course requirements. For my undergrad degree which i completed in 2007, I had only 2 physics lecture courses without any labs. Does that only give me 6 semester hrs? everyone in my program and similar programs would have had this problem. Am i doomed? or is there some flexibility with this issue?
btw i went to the University of Ottawa in Canada, not sure if there are any exceptions for ppl from other countries with different undergrad program structures.

Call the admissions office and ask. This may be a problem, although they do have some flexibility. Some things, however, may be out of their control due to licensing requirements in various states for doctors (I believe California is the most strict). Give them a call.

FYI: I was speaking with a friend whose boyfriend has applied to Dartmouth, and she said that he had gotten an interview invite. I mentioned that I didn't think invites had gone out yet. She said that she believed that maybe he got considered early because he's an NH-resident, and that Dartmouth may slightly favor in-state applicants because NH does not have a state med school.

Dartmouth reserves five spots per year for NH residents and five for Maine residents.

makes sense. Still, a crappy situation to be in since dartmouth is so good

Darmouth Invites came out early sept last year no?

hey all, i was just googling around and stumbled upon this site. seems to have a lot of useful info... anyway, just wanna say that dartmouth has already been giving out interviews, i got one on the 18th and im oos. they start interviews on the 8th i believe. good luck to you all!

Mind if I steal a copy of that spreadsheet? lol
Here's an excerpt from my school status sheet. It's got dates for all the schools first interviews last year. I didn't keep track of OOS/IS. All the Y's mean they've started handing out interviews for 2010 as of 8/23/09 (I didn't update Dartmouth).

Thanks a bunch! I think this is something that should be stickied in this forum since this has been asked numerous times in other places... kudos!

Got my invite here this morning, I think I'm will be taking the interview on the 8th! I'm oos and was complete sometime in early July for anyone who is interested.

Interview Invite! For one of three days in Sept.
I sent in my app on 7/10.

I can't get any work done because I keep checking the stats of my applications constantly! AHHH!

I've come to realize that any interview invites and such will come via email, NOT status update.. I guess once your app is Complete, there's really no reason to keep checking your status pages (hope that helps you get more work done!)

Not necessarily, I checked my status randomly at SUNY upstate, and had an interview. I got the interview email a day later....

yeah I'm stupid... exact same thing happened with me and UMichigan haha...

I can tell you guys that if you get an interview from Dartmouth your status page will not change, you can stare intently at your email instead...
