My secondary is ready and I am going to send it in tomorrow. Is it already too late, and would this be a waste of time? I don't even feel like it's that late but this site has an interesting way of playing with one's head.

My stats are 3.62/35S, strong research background (but my personal desire in med school is an early focus on clinical care)

Definitely send it in!!

I have a quick question for the pre-reqs grid for the English requirement. My college used a quarter system, so I took 3 quarters of English, which would fulfill the 6 hour requirement for GW.. but the application only gives you enough room to fill in two English classes. All of my English classes were 2.70 credit hours when converted into semester hours, so I would need to include my third English class to show that I have >6 hours. What should i do? Should I just manually write in a third English class below the grid?? 😕

Dude, send it in. It is not too late!! And yes - SDN makes us all feel like slackers... no worries 😳 Good luck to you!

does anyone have an interview 9/24? do you know if they offer the chance to stay over with a med student before the interview? (sorry if it was mentioned before, but this is a really long thread!)

Man, I hate that quarter/semester crap.

I would just enclose an additional sheet and make a note of it in the space for English classes. Just use Excel to make a table like theirs, and put in your own info as needed. Looks professional, gives them all the info they need.

Thanks! Yea, I might just do that. More work for me... weeee

Has anyone with a "hold for re-review" message gotten an interview?

Do you guys know if the student hosts are compensated by the school for hosting us? Should we take them out to dinner or something? thanks

I doubt they are paid by the school. It is volunteered by the students.Good etiquette suggests showing some return appreciation for their help although it is not required. Not every host has time for a dinner treat. So, a gift card to staples, starbucks, barnes and nobles and so on, could be great.

but it seems like we'll be eating their food at night if we don't go out to eat. Giftcards would certainly be cheaper than taking them out to eat.

another thing, will gw provide for us breakfast on our interview day?

They are only required to provide a space for you to sleep and shower. You are responsible for your own meals. Continental breakfast will be provided in the morning of the interview and then lunch will be served later in the day.

i know....
i have had this status for a week and a half now....🙁
i dont know what are our chances...anyone know what happens to applicants who were on hold?
i feel that it is certainly better than getting rejected....
thanks

try having it for a month and a half

Congrats on the invite. Yea I've had it for about 2 months now 🙁
someone earlier in the thread posted they were on hold for like 1 week then invited to an inetrview...this school interviews a ton and considering its status im sure they have to accept a large number of students so i wouldnt worry. Really i dont think its time to worry until its near nxt year,

Congrats to all those with interviews already!

I have a quick question - I've been searching all over their website, but found nothing. How do we update them with new activities/jobs? Or do they even allow that? I wouldn't be surprised if a school that gets so many apps discourages updates.

Thanks!

(if this has been asked before, please don't bite my head off, this thread is on pg 21!)

I won't send one unless you're on hold for re-review. If you are, just send an email updating your new activities and it will be included in your file. You can title the email--- Application Update or something similar. You can also send a one page fax. :luck:

does anyone know if all 3 LORs need to be from faculty?

I've completed everything except question #9, which I'm not sure what it's asking:
"For the 2009-10 cycle, indicate EC's, employment... for that period to account for full-time involvement".
---> is it asking about all the EC's I did in undergrad?
Or what I've been doing since I graduated?

It's a prospective question. They want to know what you are going to be doing from now till Fall 2010, not what you've done before. If you're still in school, you could talk about the classes and student organizations you're going to be partaking in. If you've already graduated, you can list your employment or volunteer activities that will span this time-frame.

"I am terribly embarrassed and ashamed to admit that on two occasions several years ago I plead guilty to disorderly conduct infractions. One was a result of underage drinking and the other was a noise complaint. While neither of these by law are considered "criminal offenses" I feel that it is only honest to report them. In this highly competitive admissions process I understand something like this may make my application an easy choice to discard, but all I can do is hope that my immature lapses in judgment do not reflect on my potential as a doctor and hold me back from accomplishing my dream."

How's this sound for question 6? fml

This sounds EXACTLY like what I wrote about my offense. I guess my response won't be too unique.

That's the only thing you can do. I was really honest -- and got an interview at Case already. Med Schools that only judge you for your offense wouldn't be a good match anyways.. but a lot of schools will look at your overall application and let you explain yourself. We were all stupid kids once.. some of us just got caught for it. It happens.

Sorry, I'm not sure if this is already mentioned in the thread, but does anyone know where I can find a compiled list of GWU's interview questions? Is there a set of questions the interviewers ask, or is it more conversational? Preparing for this first interview is screwing with my nerves... anyone also have any tips on the GWU interview?

ALSO, what is proper post-interview etiquette? Should I write down the names of my interviewers and send them a thank you card?

Does GW have a student host thing for visiting interviewees?

Edit: Saw this post by MegaProjectile:

Yes. I was offered a student host. Send an email to [email protected].

Thanks, I'll send out an email. Is this all that is available?

I got put on hold with a 3.97 GPA and a balanced 33 MCAT. Wow this sucks I have been receiving rejection after rejection this was supposed to be a safety school too. I guess they were right that gpa/mcat doesn't guarantee anything

I bet your stats are too high for them.

Does GW start interviewing people in September or in August? Any info would be appreciated 🙂

hmm. i'm not 100% sure but i think they start in september. i know someone who has an interview for the 3rd week of this month.

Is this a joke are you serious? Do they really screen out people that are "too high"?

This is partially true, but it's also a distinct possibility that a person could have bad letters, bad essays, bad EC's or the multitude of other factors that go along with the selection process (it's not just numbers...)

To the person with the hold, lots of people are on hold (including me) and according to some people here, lots of people get interviewed following a hold status.

Funny Story:
A few weeks back, I emailed GWU asking about my app status (some issues w/ LORs);
My email started "I am an applicant to the George.... .........
.....

Town School of Medicine" Later in the email, I used GWU.

There email started:

"If you have question regarding Georgetown School of Medicine, you should contact their university" Then they answered my question.

Y in the world two school with possibly the most similar sounding names on the planet had to be in the same state with in 2 miles of each other;

Lesson learnt: Proof read your emails

You should probably just proofread everything...

Haha... I think they may have a slight inferiority complex about that, but it can't be helped. I was studying in DC a couple years ago and visited GW and G-town on the same day to talk to admissions people. I accidentally called GW "Georgetown" to an admissions lady and she seemed hurt.
