Hold. 🙁 ... They put me on hold before they even got my new (+5 pts) MCAT score.

Lame.

If you wanna get an interview after being on hold, send updates and show your interest to them. They really like that stuff.
 
When will I get off this perrenial hold at GW 🙁
 
also got the hold today. i guess they didnt like my essays
 
I'm "...under review by the committee. Correspondence concerning the status of your application will be emailed to you shortly."

Arrgh. I haven't received any e-mail... does anyone know what this means?

Yeah, I'm pleased I didn't get rejected. It's just my first school update where they've completed the initial review of my application. Oh well, time to wait around some more!

No, but the 'hold' pile is a very convenient place to put an application until they're done with interviews in April and can finally focus on sending out actual letters.

Disclaimer: On hold since 8/15 😎
 
Any idea how GW feels about update letters? I'm on hold, and I have some things to update them on, but I don't want to send one if they're one of the schools that don't really like update letters. Anyone know anything about this?

I did the same and they replied that they would add the information to the file.

I wonder if it would be inappropriate to write something along the lines of "Committee on Medical School Admissions: I would like it if you took another look at my application today to give me an interview decision. Yeaaaah, thanks."

I hear ya!
There are several schools I would like to say something similar to. Only mine would be more of a beg: "If you could PLEASE PLEASE give me an interview you would see I'm a good fit. PLEASE?!?!?!"

I got the same email back when I told them to look again at my new MCAT score. Hopefully they actually do. We'll see...
 
I called them yesterday about the holds, and the lady said that ~90% of applicants are put on hold early in the cycle. I also asked if I could send additional information, and she said not this early in the cycle...>.>..here's hoping that I get off the hold soon..

I think she's lying to you (at least slightly). I definitely went ahead and sent an update and they were very kind about adding it to my file. I mean, depending on what it is you're trying to update them about, it might be in your best interest to wait awhile before submitting the changes....but that's your call, not their's....
 
so i got a hold on wednesday, which was the day after my new mcat scores were posted....do you think that i should email them and tell them i got new scores? looks to me like they didnt wait for the new ones
 
well i would LOVE to get out of this hold by sending updates.. but nothing much has changed since the last 3 weeks since my application was complete... =(
 
I've been on hold for a while now.. and I'm currently writing a paper as first author for publication.. I don't know when it will actually get sent in and approved for the journal, but I want to send them an update saying that I will be first author of this paper.

Should I wait till it's accepted to send it? Could I send an update now, just being like "fyi, here's what I'm up to" and then later send them the actual paper? What do ya'll think?

I have this too! But haven't heard in about two weeks. Hoping its good news!
 
Just called. They were nice but their response was "there will be an email sent to you shortly" 🙂.

I understand that the admissions dept is swamped but it shouldn't take 2 weeks to get an email. Did you tell them how long you've been waiting? You can also try emailing them(I think a different dept answers the emails). I tend to get better results from them through email.:luck:
 
I didn't want t harrass them too much...guess if I don't get it today I'll send the e-mail...

me too. i think at this point i'm gonna chalk this one up to a rejection, since they don't seem to send out official letters till January. *sigh* i really wanted to go here too
 
to be fair, they said they expect to receive 12000 applications this cycle. you're just 1 out of all of them, you are not special
 
Still no e-mail regarding status or even response to the email. Come on GW.. makes me think applying way early would have been smart buT I had to retake MCATs on July 31. I think everywhere is swamped now which in all reality doesn't make sense because there are still 3-4 months left to apply and clearly not everyone could get their files in early...
 
ugg - i just got the dreaded hold this morning as well... I guess it's better than a rejection.
 
I've been on hold for an eternity as well. If it's any consolation, I know someone who was given an interivew and she only received a 24 on her MCAT. I've also been told that GW tried to interview applicants that they don't believe this is their safety school first - why waste their time right? I'm not a great applicant (non-trad, 32S, MBA), but my averages are above what is normal for GW, so I guess I'll take it as a positive for now. It's not my first choice, but I don't want to move (nor does my wife), so I would definitely go here if Maryland or G-town fall through!
 
I got the complete email 9/2, no news yet....
 
My file was complete on 9/10, what has the average review period been for an application?

I wouldn't care if that was the case but I got the "Correspondence concerning the status of your application will be emailed to you shortly." status.....so one would think they'd at least e-mail. Still haven't answered the email I sent to them either.😕
 
Interesting. I got this response today. No idea if this means an interview or not......

Yes!!! Interview invite!!! First!! Nov. 6. Was complete 9/1 with new MCAT scores - in state (DC resident). I really hopes this pulls through for me.
