I also didn't get cut today, but I'm still not particularly optimistic about an invite.

I got hit by the pre-interview mass rejection today too. On hold sometime in November, sent an update letter beginning of January, never got their "are you still interested?" email.

Good luck to those still waiting!

This place interviews until march, right? I feel like if we haven't been rejected yet, we have a good shot, as this place does not seem to reject silently...

Rejected pre-interview today as well, good thing I didn't spend too much time one my LOI yet. 🙁 Good luck to those still in the running!

Todays events:

12:30: send update letter
12:38: response from admissions office saying update letter added to my file
3:30: rejected

4 months on hold.

at least they got back to me pretty quickly.

haha wow...what did you say in your letter?

We have received well over 13,000 applicants for our 177 places in the first year class! After careful review of these applications, the Committee chooses approximately 1,000 applicants for interviews. The decision not to proceed further with your application was made on the basis of this careful review. We want to point out that this decision relates in part to the extreme competition for places in our class. We have done our best to be realistic and judicious in reaching our decisions. However, we are painfully aware that many more excellent candidates are being denied this year than in the past.

*I regret spending so much on that secondary!! I could have bought a REALLy nice coffee/espresso maker 🙁

hmm.. no response at all? Did you send to the email address above? because i got mine in 2 days.. You probably should call in to check. I would if I were you 🙂

hey,
I sent it through mail, not email. So not sure how long it takes to get from Cali to DC

Oooh.. hmm.. I sure hope it got there quickly, but I'm not too sure about that either 🙁 (but yey for a fellow californian 😀)

I still would call though.. you know.. make sure they know IT IS COMING, and that you really wanted to make sure that THEY get it (so then you can get it too 😛)

I'm really sorry to hear about the mass rejections that happened today 🙁. Did it come via email, snail mail, or status page? I really need to keep a close eye out 🙁.. I really want to interview here.. someone told me how amazing the place is.. and gosh.. I would love to just have the chance..... But good luck guys on the rest of the process, and stay positive!

On the upside, anyone can brighten our days with a good news of an interview yet?? 🙂 Maybe soon?? 🙂 :xf:

Good luck everyone! 🙂

I interviewed on Dec 3rd and they said they'd get back to me in 6-8 weeks. I called them today and they said they've made the decision and I should hear shortly (not allowed to tell me over the phone).

Wow, I'm surprised I didn't get rejected since I wrote a very generic update letter. Not sure what to make of this. I'm not too thrilled about having to wait though.

Out of curiosity, what kind of GPA/MCAT stats do the recently departed possess? I am guessing the 3.4/30 range?

This process is so fakatka... given the schools I have interviewed at, I am very disappointed that my state school will not even give me the time of day. Oh well... hopefully GWU will see within me what I'm certain is there.

fakatka...

Love the use of the word fakakta. I use it all the time! I'm on the alternate list here dreaming of that day in May or June when they call me up to tell me I'm accepted..... 😎

FYI, their probation has been lifted and they're now accredited for the full 8 yr period.

I received the LCME email as well and I interviewed too.

On a side note, it takes a really long time to hear back from GWU 🙁....7 weeks and counting

dude, do not even focus on gpa and mcat. if you interview well, and show them you are a fit, you will get in. if you do not interview well, you will not get in.

so speaking of the interview... i wonder how things are gonna go from here on out. they asked some of us for that update, and seemingly rejected a ton... are they just gonna screen once a week, and then invite again? this school does things weird....

That's just completely false to say that if you interview well you get in and if you don't you are rejected...

I am sorry to hear that. Would you mind sharing with us the means with which you were informed? Best of luck with your other applications and holding out to hear something! :xf:

I called them yesterday and they said they had made a decision and I should hear from them soon. Today I got an email saying that I'm an alternate. I was looking at previous GW threads and it looks like the waitlist starts moving around mid-May.

Did you end up calling to see about your letter? I've sent a snail mail letter too. It never really occurred to me to check, but maybe it'd be a good idea. If you did, did they seem to mind?

i was in that wave of rejections. i have a 3.6/40 lol?

Still alive here.
Pre-interview hold in September.
Got the update email in January.
I'm guessing they will wait to see how many more people respond to the "update" email before Feb 10 - then we'll probably see more invites go out... if not sooner.

maybe... that's just weird tho. are they really going to have a gap of no interviews? but then again they probably picked 'feb 10th' for a reason, so who the hell knows...

Hey,
Yes I did call them. They gave me the date they received it. Just interesting they didn't let me know they received it. It took 5 days for my letter to arrive. You should call in to check.

Interviewed in Dec after being on hold since July. Received acceptance on 2/4. Thank God, I am very grateful. It is definitely my first choice.

Purple pearl, did you get an interview before that letter? Did anyone (complete by September) receive an interview recently from GWU? I received the update letter and was not part of the mass rejections. No interview yet. Still hanging on here. *fingers crossed* 😳

canceled my interview for the 11th. So if anyone wants an earlier date or hopefully this opens a spot for one of you guys waiting.

Has anyone who's been accepted and completed the FAFSA already been able to access the electronic GWU Student Financial Assistance Supplement (the online finaid app) via the finaid homepage? Or has anyone gotten a packet with finaid info regarding which forms will need for institutional aid?

Thanks!

I am interviewing on the 11th and traveling from NY. However, if you haven't already heard, there is supposed to be a massive snowstorm coming in Tuesday-Wednesday... As I planned on taking the bus, I am mildly freaking out about how I am going to get there. I might have to resort to taking the train but if there is an off-chance that I end up not being able to travel to DC, does anyone know the policy with GW? I tried contacting the office a couple times and nobody picked up!! :scared:

Most schools here in DC are closed today.
It looks like the heaviest snow is coming Tuesday evening thru Wednesday. Not even sure what the chances are of GW being open on Thursday, since this blizzard has shut down a lot of schools, roads, transport, etc, in DC so far - as of now, though, the forecast looks clear.
If you're really set on interviewing on Thursday, then try to make it down here on Tuesday morning. If that's not possible, then I'm sure GW can work with you to find an alternate interview date, or you can take your chances and try to get down here Wed afternoon/evening.
Good luck!

Thanks for the responses. Alas, I am still about to enter panic mode! GW is my top choice =(

It says on the website or the interview invite somewhere that in these types of circumstances ABSOLUTELY call the office of admissions and find out directly.

Thats all ya gotta do. Its not your fault its going to snow! 👍:luck:

Yeah I tried but nobody is picking up.. but I did leave a message for the interview coordinator. I guess I'll just pack and hope to leave either tomorrow or tonight but that will suck if I manage to get there.. and the school isn't open! 🙁
