My status changed from "Complete and under review" to "We have received all the necessary credentials including letters of recommendation in order for your application to be reviewed. While the committee does its best to review applications in a timely manner, please be aware that it may be a while until you hear from us again. We greatly appreciate your patience during the application process." I felt that I took a step back in the process. 😕

Woah! Weird.

Maybe they had no idea what to do with your app and decided to put it back where they found it 🙂

Mine hasn't been reviewed yet.I thought we were all in the same batch?

for everyone who got the "hold" message don't lose hope, it looks like there was some funniness with their status page last year and that people would get the hold message one week and be under review the next.

Last year the first interview invite came out in August so there is still plenty of time to be re-reviewed even if it is a real hold...

"I am terribly embarrassed and ashamed to admit that on two occasions several years ago I plead guilty to disorderly conduct infractions. One was a result of underage drinking and the other was a noise complaint. While neither of these by law are considered "criminal offenses" I feel that it is only honest to report them. In this highly competitive admissions process I understand something like this may make my application an easy choice to discard, but all I can do is hope that my immature lapses in judgment do not reflect on my potential as a doctor and hold me back from accomplishing my dream."

How's this sound for question 6? fml

that is very well written...you have ....you have some b*lls though 😀

but if its not an criminal offense, do you have to mention it??..I feel like admissions committee want to look for every possible way to say NO to an applicant...at least thats what one of the committee members told me here at MCV....who knows...you'll be surprise what they complain about....stuff like...how many times you touch your socks during the interview....or whether you sit up close to the desk, lounge forward and bend your knees while sitting....i mean real crazy things....i think the committee members at MCV are neurotic👎

Well I got my background check from the same service amcas uses, and while from everything that I've read "infractions" are not technically "criminal offenses" they still show up on there. So I think i could honestly answer no to that question but I might be getting too technical and if I ever do get accepted and they see that and might kick me out. Or should I cross that bridge if I come to it?

Maybe i'll call their office and/or someone in law enforcement and see what they say.

Ya I got put on hold too. Hopefully we will get good news come august.:luck:

I think thats the best thing....and good luck:xf:. Im sure youll do fine either way!

for question 9 on the secondary, do you simply list things in a "list" format?

i.e. MATH101, CHEM101, BIOL101, Working in a lab, Skydiving on weekends, Curing Cancer, Performing magic tricks with David Copperfield

Basically what I did.

Is there something specific we have to do in order to initiate the background check? Or does that just kind of happen on its own?

Also...I think I screwed up. I selected letters of recommendation at the time I sent in my primaries, therefore sending all 3 of my letters to every school. Now I am going to send in my letter from a pre-health advisor. Do you think schools that only require this letter will care that the other 3 went in as well?

Basically what I did.

Should we be listing every course, though? That's like 8 courses--titles alone would fil up the 2 lines.

I said something like "Full-time student, expected grad. date May 2010; volunteer 3 hours/week; Lab 10 hours/week..."

AMCAS should have sent you an email about it. If you want it now you have to pay for it and initiate it yourself. Or you could just wait and I guess they will send it to you after you have gotten into medical school but before the medical school sees it (I think that's what they said) and that's free. I knew I had something on there so I wanted to do it just to see what came up.

wahoo, i have the same message now as well. wonder if this is better or worse than the "on hold" status?

Its up to you, I had only 4 courses to list so it wasnt a huge deal, if you have 8 i think its excessive and better to say f/t student, then other activities.

I'm thinking we'all be put on hold at this time.

Umm, aren't they saying the same thing?😕

Yea you're correct. I wish they avoid the emotional roller-coaster though.haha

Your application to The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences is complete and has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. To date, no final decision has been made and the Admissions Committee has placed your application on hold for re-review at a later date. If we require any further documentation or if your status changes, we will contact you immediately. We do sincerely appreciate your interest in our program. Thank you for your patience.

Just got mine. I'm hoping it's just a temporary thing lol.

Aw man, I was put on "hold" as well for re-review.....just to clarify, does this mean my app wasn't good enough for an instant interview but not bad enough for instant rejection?

for those have have been put "on hold," when were you complete (i.e., when GW sent you an email saying they received all required documents)?

what do i do with the listing classes? just choose the classes that i got As in? I find this unnecessary.
and is it true that i need to keep the "most important non-academic achievement" to 5 lines, even though there are 6? Did any of you guys call the school and ask?
Thanks =)

Grades don't matter...they look at your entire record. The grid is used to see if you have done your pre-reqs and that they are not P/F. And no it can be 6 lines, don't worry.

how is it that Mayo has more posts than GWU? just wondering...

Prestige and ambiguity of applicant selection. No one seems to "know" what Mayo is looking for in an applicant. They put more emphasis on your primary application and LOR. I wanted to apply but -20 degrees temperature ain't my thing.

I thought they were too selective, so I didn't apply.

because getting into mayo is like winning the lottery, everyone wants to do it. Probably the most prestigious/selective school in the country imo. So people go all crazy over it. If you look its actually like 4-5 people posting the same thign each night that makes it so high lol. Every night its just more and more bitching about not getting Lor requests or other things like that. Not to mention the normal SDN paranoia😛

i'm on hold too. i felt my heart sink when i read it, but i'm glad to hear other people have it too, and i'm :xf: 'ing that everyone who has been reviewed is on hold, and this isn't any sort of indication either way.

but: "has placed your application on hold for re-review at a later date" doesn't make me very hopeful 🙁

Would teaching a college course count as a non-academic activity? I mean, it was in an academic setting, but it wasn't MY academics.

that sounds academic.

they're looking for something like music, sports, art, volunteering, leadership i think

I think everyone got a hold message.

ive been obsessively reading last year's gwu secondary thread, and i think we're all really on pre-interview holds..i would love to be wrong, though 😕

Yes that's true. But typically around August, that pre-interview hold is not a good thing and is typically permanent.

The question is whether anyone is being offered interviews yet or if they're putting us all on hold since it's so early.

well said. it would be rather ridiculous for so many to be put on hold already since complete emails were just sent (got mine 7/14..and for what its worth, i have good stats)

not doing much for the nerves though

So did I, but I'm not on hold. Could this be a good sign for me? I won't jump to any conclusions.
