I'm hoping we receive it this monday, seeming they had mentioned a mid-august time-frame. Its my last secondary I have to fill out...*waiting...waiting.....waiting*

They specifically stated the 15th, which has now come and gone...so, I'm guessing we should all be getting that e-mail invite Monday morning?

Does anyone know if Howard screens applicants to determine if they want a secondary from you or not? Or does everyone get a secondary?

ok the email said Aug 15. now it's Aug 18. what is up with Howard and sending out secondaries?

They don't explicitly say whether or not they screen (just mention invite to complete secondary), but I'm pretty sure that they don't...and if they do, I think the screen is rather low (like Loyola's)

someone else with more knowledge on this, feel free to jump in

lol, I just recieved their secondary invitation. Turning it down due to the high application fee and no fee waiver 🙁

....maybe another typo? probably meant January 2010....January 2009 MCAT for the 2009-2010 season is pretty standard...if not, I'm out of the running since my most recent MCAT is from March 2009...lol:laugh:

I took mine in April 2009...

All that waiting and anticipation for...the same exact secondary as last year. Oh wait, now we have to pay $75 instead of $50. Awesome.

...didn't realize you have to pay with cash to get Money Orders/Cashier's Checks...this is a problem...

I find this e-mail and secondary to be condescending, on the border of out-right rude. That's pretty difficult to pull off on paper.

Perhaps I missed something...how is it condescending or anywhere near out-right rude? I just thought they were straightforward with what we should do/what they want...😕

yeah I agree. They've probably been hounded for weeks with questions, emails, and phone calls. Its not rude, the more we bug them the less they get done 🙂 patience patience patience....

I have FAP but forked out $75 to increase my chances this cycle.

I just got 2 money orders. $45 from July (their mistake email) and now $30 for the real one.

how is it rude/condescending? I find it pretty straightforward. The good thing is that we can type it in and save/print it. pretty neat. 👍

P.S. Just submitted at the post office today. YAY!!!!🙂

i kind of got that vibe from the email too oddly lol

A bit heavy on the deleting, destroying, and shredding, no? 🙂

PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL. (I've just finished deleting 13,000 emails !)

If you enclose a personal check, the personal check will be destroyed and your application will not be reviewed.

Please do not send transcripts unless we request them. They will be shredded.

I was fine with all of that stuff because I feel like they probably deal with that a lot. What bothered me was that they don't trust their applicants enough to allow them send personal checks. I sent personal checks to all my other schools that didn't have online payment and they were all fine with it. I feel that anyone who is serious about getting into the school won't send a check that will bounce. The application fee essentially ended up being around $85 because of the cashier's check fee I had to pay to send the app fee.

are you guys attaching an extra page if you answer to the disadvantaged/underserved questions or just use the space provided and write 2-3 lines for each one?

any idea how much they want us to elaborate on our answers?!

you could of just gotten a money order which cost like $0.89 in addition to the $75. much much cheaper than cashier's check.

I just typed it into the box provided, thus lengthening that section. I'd say just keep doing that, making sure you don't add more than a page in volume.

thanks 🙂

do you think they would prefer a non-sci letter for the optional ones? i am thinking of NOT sending my writing and lab research to make the 4 they want 😎

Oh man I havent gotten a secondary!!! does anyone think im out? When did everyone who got a secondary select Howard? I did mine August 7th. I'm freakin out Y'all!!!!!!:scared:

I'm thinking about doing the same. I was pretty annoyed to find that they don't accept AMCAS fee waivers. I guess I have a couple of weeks to make up my mind.

I wouldn't worry about it. They stated in a previous email that you should receive a secondary two weeks after being AMCAS verified. If you are already verified, I would give it a few more days. Most people have been waiting at least a month for the secondary. As you can see, they really aren't moving in a timely fashion.

thanks 🙂

imo, I'd go for a non-sci letter or even a non-academic one, so they can get a glimpse at a different aspect of your persona

I seem to recall (and don't quote me on this) that if you weren't verified by the time they sent a specific email out (around 8/2 or something), then the general rule is ~2 weeks after your verification date you should receive a secondary from them...I think

thanks! im thinking in addition to the 2 sci i'll go with an MD letter + my boss for my tutor/teaching job throughout college! and leaving out my writing and other lab research letter 😎

This made me lol

Honestly, you don't want to be adding to their stress. It's already hard enough as is...my friend goes there for grad school and they make her answer phones, etc in addition to teaching and doing research in order to get her PhD. Times are hard. It's a recession 😉

hey...my high school counselor and a few of my friends are AKA members. 👍

thanks 🙂

this is why you have a committee letter packet. 🙂 you can send as much as you want in that packet.

Looks like I gotta give them a call: dunno if they accept AP credit for math pre req. I'll update with response.

For the "Did you work at least 20 hours a week for at least one academic year? " question, do you think they only mean work for which I was compensated, or does this include volunteer work etc.?.
.

I would say its compensated work considering its the first question under "employment." I plan on mentioning my volunteering a couple of questions later in the what did you do "less than full-time in medicine" box. You can mention your hours there if you want.

SO for the LOR it says specifically that we need 2 science professors that taught us...

for 2 quarters, I took a 199 (student-directed research project) and my PI gave me an actual letter grade. do you think that counts?

i should probably call the admissions office and ask there anyway...but if any of u guys know thatd be great!

(please dont say no :/ )
