Yeah...I'd contact them if I were you. They've sent out the secondary 2-3x already, so if you have been AMCAS verified for 2+ weeks, I'd give them a quick ring to see what's going on. If it's been <2 weeks, then just be patient.

You should call because an email went out saying something was wrong with the system and they resent me a secondary last week. Good LUCK🙂🙄

I know me too! I submitted mine like August 10th but I haven't recieved anything. I was planning to call 'em this week.

two questions:
From which email did you get invitation? and did anyone here not get an invitation?

I got my email invite from the same email address as the other correspondance it was just headed invite

I didn't get an invite either. A lil' pissed, but not worried in the least. I applied here last cycle, ran into some major probs with admissions and they told me "just apply next cycle and everything should be fine." It also seems as if they are literally sending invites out one-by-one... Um, yeah, just keep waiting. I'm sure classes just started and they're probably busy with that. I don't know...I have my doubts though...

Ok, so for those who did get the interview invites after secondary...did you get a confirmation e-mail following the interview invite?? if so, how long did it take them to get back to you? if you haven't heard from them (b/c im a nervous pre-med....lol) so anywhere from the next 2 minutes to 3 days....do you think its wise to e-mail them back to say wassup? thanks

For some reason pinkivy,

I thought your avatar was a whale....don't ask me why....lol!!..it took me a min to just sit there and look at it...a woman in pearls.....its definitely time to go home from work....😴

lololol. That, paired with the #lilmamais twitter trending topic, just made my day

Once you pick a date from the choices and email back yes you get an email with the schedule hotel info and useful websites. I was the idiot that called to respond to the invite and Ms Walk was nice about it she told me no that I have to email and they would get back to me and they did the same day with a confirmation. GOOD LUCK 🙂🙂🙂🙂

I am sorry did not answer your other question if you do not get the confirmation call because they said do not make arrangements until you get it🙂

Now I am nervous i looked at other profiles and the amount of schools that people applied to makes me look like a bum. I only applied to 8MD and 2DO and only finished the secondary for 7MD and 1DO. Some people say its to late considering my stats, i am thinking after my 3 interviews to add more because I know this is stupid but 2 of the schools that I am interviewing at are my top choices and I wanted to see how it went. I am not a gambler but in hindsight I think I am playing russian rollete what do you think😕😕😕

Just mailed off my application! Sent it certified mail so now I have something to obsess over. Has anyone else gotten an interview invite?

did anyone who is not an aa get an interview so far? just wondering.. thanks =)

good luck i hope you hear something soon🙂

I just read the history of HUCM and it just makes you realize how powerful we as a people can be. The evolving of such a great school is critical to our communities. I can not wait to actually be there for my interview i am going to take pictures (of course not during my interview lol)

Yes ma'am. I hear you. It's a unique place. Proud. Utterly magnificent in what it has done. No school has done more for underserved peoples.

I just got complete there and am hopeful for an interview.

But regardless I am happy you got an interview. You seem to have a strong resonance with the place and its history. Best of luck to you.

Thanks good luck to you as well. 👍:xf:

You story seems pretty similar to mine. I applied to MD and DO schools last year. I also interviewed the first day at Howard. Interviewing here early like that means that you have a really good shot of getting into Howard. Just make sure that you hit a homerun on your interview and you will be fine. The interviews here are not intimidating, and you should use it as a chance to get to know all the things that Howard really has to offer. I look forward to meeting everyone on the first day of interviews.

This is a truly awesome place, our class is so diverse in culture and opinion. Let me know if you have any questions.

Maybe you should wait until exactly 3 weeks and then call. i do not know if they fixed their system yet but if I was you I would at least download it and start it so when and if then send it you are ready( forget the if let us say when and keep it positive) to send it off. GOOD LUCK:xf::xf::xf:

Its been 2.5 weeks since I got verified and I haven't received a secondary 🙁

thank You for responding. I will not be there on the first day but the third day of interviews I choose the 7th because that was the latest choice of the options. An associate of mines told me that people live in VA or maryland and commute to HUCM is that true, and is the parking bad? and how is the traffic? I am considering VA if this commute thing is possible. How do you apply for any scholarships once you are accepted, and can you wear scrubs everyday? Thanks I know I talk alot but between the nerves and the curiosity........:laugh::laugh:

They will notify you of any scholarships that you are eligible for when you have completed the FAFSA + their in house financial aid form. You need to include your parental info on both if you are interested in need-based scholarships even if you have been out of the "house" for 20 years.

Yes, you can live in Virginia and do the commute (best done by Metro) for the first two years. Parking is a huge problem as there are never enough spaces and the parking enforcement folks are "hard core". It's pretty demoralizing to find your car "booted" during exam week and thus it's better not to even drive except on weekends when there are plenty of spaces.

Most people live: In the graduate Towers - small but convienent; in Silver Spring (easy bus ride down Ga Ave), Adam Morgan (metro), anywhere on the Green Line (L'enfant Plaza area) and Rosslyn area (Virginia). The closer to the city, the higher the rentals. Crystal City is not bad but commuting by car from Alexandria is pure h--l.

The Metro is great because you can study or chill. It's crowded during rush hour but you don't have to worry about parking in the city. Metro won't work for third year because you have to be on the wards for most rotations before Metro gets started. You are also likely to get a campus parking space as a third year too.

Having a car in the DC area is expensive both cost of fuel and insurance. It's nice to have but I was able to bike first and second year (took my bike on the Metro) and bought a good used car for third year. It worked out fine.

I live in Hyattsville, MD and the commute is easy. It is 15min on the metro or if we choose to drive, it is 10-15min. But we hardly ever drive, there is no need to because the medical school is a 5 min walk from the metro stop. Plus, parking around the school isn't very convenient. Nobody wears scrubs to class. The only time we will be in scrubs is during anatomy lab or if you get surgery for your preceptorship. People come to class in whatever, I personally wear jeans sometimes and other times im in basketball shorts.

What is the best way to prepare for the interview at HUCM?

Man, I sent my money order and secondary like 6 weeks ago. I was told we hear back by now that our application is complete. No email, no answers when I call them, nothing. Probably have been reviewed by now? When does HUCM send rejections?

It sounds trite but "Be yourself" and let the interviewer get to know you personally. It's the person who interviews you that "sells" you to the rest of the committee who didn't get to meet you. Your interviewer has read you file and knows everything that you wrote so review your secondary answers etc. so that you remember how you answered the questions. Anything that in your AMCAS/secondary/transcript may be questioned so be prepared to answer the questions as best you can.

Some interviewers are quite formal and some are laid back. It depends on the day and who's number is up for interviewing. You will get a tour of the school (by a second year student). Take advantage of this time to ask any questions of this person. When I lead tour groups, I specifically told them to ask me anything that they didn't want to ask the folks in the admissions office and I also gave an e-mail in case something came up later and they had questions.

Howard is an exciting place to be these days. Just ask BlackDr2B who is busy but having a great time bonding with coursework and classmates. The curriculum is great and there is a spot (high in the tower of the library) that I used to study for USMLE Step I. Needless to say, it was good luck for me and I could enjoy the beautiful spring sunsets.

Last question are there single mothers and anybody has a clue about daycare

Thanks to everyone that consistantly responds I am feeling so much love

Well, between the fact that so many people are still not marked "complete" and the fact that they said they begin interviewing end of Sept and have sent out very few invites, I'd guess that their office is backed up...

Maybe the next batch of interview invites will be overwhelmingly large compared to the last one. I'd call if it's been 6+ weeks and you're still not complete. Better safe than sorry...

anyone knows when they are gonna send out 2nd batch of invitations?

I did call but the woman said there is no way for her to check if I am complete and that I should be patient. They will eventually email everyone who is complete, but she said it's impossible for her to look for every item for everyone to see if all the necessary documents are in. Don't understand why they can't have an onine system. But I understand that things get really busy at this time..I'll wait. Are there others who sent secondaries and check 6+ week and not complete?

I sent mine in on August 18th and haven't heard anything. Not quite as long as you but getting there, about 5 weeks.

This is just a suggestion. When you send your secondaries send them with a confirmation this way all you have to do is call the 800 number and at least that will let you know that the school recieved it. It does not sound like much but at least you know it is definetely in their hand. I think the reason why some of us were confirmed right away at HUCM because they recieved the next day after they sent out the secondary invites. I hope you hear something soon I know how it feels to keep wondering it will happen😍😍

Yeah, I submitted my secondary application overnight (the day after it was sent out) and it took them about a week to send me a completed notification. So I'm guessing there's a huge backlog.

Hey everybody, just anted to stop thru and let you know that your complete email will be coming. They have been quite busy in the office with preparing for the first interview day coming up and we have new staff in the admissions office and we had that funky computer thing happen here. So I hope I can put some people at some kind of peace. You have to be a little bit patient with Howard but I assure you that Howard is definitely worth the wait. Hope this helps. God bless!

So the secondary received e-mail is different than a complete file e-mail? I received one saying they've received my secondary but it mentioned nothing about being complete.

You will get an email saying that your secondary has been received. I do not believe that you will get an email saying you are complete. Once invited for an interview, they will confirm that they have received everything for your file.

no i dont think thats right...i got a "2ndary and money order received" email and then a "your app is complete" email about a week later.

Oh ok, then they are doing it differently this year. I stand corrected. Thank you DrZing for the correction.

Okay I'm really confused. I was verified 9/2 and haven't recieved a secondary. So I called them and they were like oh just download it...and hte lady said "oh we have 1000 applicants and we lose track and forget about people, so just download it."

I'm thinking...wow...lose track of applicants? If I didn't call then I would be sitting here waiting for a secondary that may never come. What a waste of money for those that haven't called.

btw - does anyone know what is the ethnicity breakdown of Howard?

It seems like there are a lot of African American students. Is there no hope for an Asian American like me? Even though I wish to be a physician in urban undeserved area (Oakland, CA)?

Just wondering!

They do not tell you complete file until you are invited for an interview. they will let you know that your secondary was recieved and money order. But completer means with lor classes etc.......I know it is nerve wrecking but please we must as appl hope for the best I have read last years post and people were going on interviews and accepted later on too. I am by far a know it all I just want to KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!!!!!

I received a complete e-mail a while ago and have not been invited for an interview yet. So I think the complete e-mail means just that... complete. Hopefully I get an interview soon... but to clear up confusion, i received a secondary e-mail as well as a complete e-mail about a week later.

Anybody on the thread going to be at Howard for interviews on Tuesday?

I am referring to complete with LOR and everything else maybe she did it just for me but I also remember reading somewhere else they will not tell you if you have everything until you are invited for an interview. I am looking at my invite now "( I've checked your recommendations - your file is complete.) " Good Luck :xf::xf:

Just got invitation. So excited I thought I would stop lurking here! 🙂

I'm not a URM, but come from a disadvantaged background and have worked with URM patient populations. High stats (34, 3.9), but Howard doesn't seem to be too focused on stats.

I noticed this from US News:
5635 applied, 328 interviewed, 261 were accepted, 114 enrolled

Does that mean 80% of those interviewed are offered admissions?

congrats on your invite i think that is what it means when is your interview and i am so happy for you.😍:xf:
