Ha, pretty much my reaction when I got the axe from a certain ivy. Yay rivalries.

Rivalries are awesome. They will stay with us to the grave. And whatever Ivy rejected you, the can suck it also!

Damn guyski, don't get me started. One word: AXE. Haha 😀. Will I see you at Irvine second look?

Unfortunately, I doubt it.

I think I'll only go to the second look of the place that I'll end up going to, and that's not looking like Irvine at this point.

On the other hand, it would be nice to grab a pint with you and talk about how much Cal sucks...

they may be separate schools, but are all part of the UC system; think of it like a big family. whereas stanford has only one lonely tree. 😀

I've decided to write a Letter of Intent! I really want to attend Stanford. Do you think I should wait a bit so it doesn't sound as though I'm just freaking out over being waitlisted?

I'd wait a month or so. They won't start looking at the waitlist until a few weeks after the last acceptances go out. Plus, you'll probably be hearing back from other places soon (Harvard anyone?). Maybe your mind will change by then.

I think a Letter of Intent/Interest would be more meaningful later on when you already know your status at all other schools and can convey (given your other options) why Stanford is the best school for you.

Got the call today from Dr. Garcia...wow seriously...dream come true 😍

I seriously am still in awe/shock. Good luck to those still waiting!

And btw, I interviewed first week of February 🙂.

Well CONGRATS! Waitlist/rejection for me I suppose. What time did he call? And are you west coast?

He originally called around 2-3PM, but I missed it. He called back later (after I called his voicemail a couple of times) around 6PM. And yes I am west coast, so that's pacific time lol.

Just out of curiosity, what are your stats, such as undergraduate college, GPA, MCAT extra ciricular activities, publications, etc. etc.

Got the "fat envelope" phone call yesterday as well!!

Interviewed the first week of February. California, here I come!

For those who are wondering, Stanford is still handing out interviews. I just got one today. Complete 8/06 so don't loose hope yet! Soo psyched.

Congrats!! Dates available?

I wonder if this means another big batch (last batch?) went out today...

To be honest, I'd rather stay sort of anonymous for now :ninja:
But in terms of scores/GPA, mine are decently high and I go to a pretty good UC. I don't have any publications, though I have done original research and been part of an awesome lab for almost 3 yrs now. I have the usual extra currics in my opinion (research, volunteering, leadership positions in committees, tutoring, etc.). I think what may have helped was really strong rec letters 👍 and perhaps just conveying to them how much I love this school/ know what it's really about.

Anyways, congrats sexyscrubs! See you second look weekend? 🙂

And honestly, I know how nerve-wrecking it is to wait, so best of luck to all who are still waiting. Never give up hope! :luck:

They had March3rd, 30th and 31st. For April, it was 4-7 (something around then).

Stanford's rejection letter isn't even printed in color.

So I was waitlisted at Stanford a couple of days ago and a question has been bugging me since then. At my Harvard interview I was very talkative because I was full of energy and excitement, but at Stanford I was rather mellow because I had a cold. I was really excited to be there (it was my first choice going into this process), but I just couldn't get energized enough to be my talkative self. By the end of my first interview my throat was parched which made me even less talkative during the second interview.

So, my question is really directed at students who have interviewed at either of these schools and been accepted. What did the admissions committee value the most about you: your energy/confidence, your passion for the school, your level of dedication to research, your life experiences, what exactly? I'm sure all these things play a role, I'm just trying to gauge my chances at Harvard compared to Stanford since I said basically the same things, just with a different level of energy and vigor.

1) when you get accepted to a school, the acceptance packet does not come with a sheet that says "we liked you because of the following personality traits..."
2) harvard hasn't accepted anyone yet
3) these are the most competitive schools in the country. if you didn't get in, it doesn't necessarily mean you made a mistake at the interview like not being peppy enough. Some doctors, believe it or not, don't act like hyperactive teeny boppers at a jonas brothers concert. "I love the Jonas brothers beacuse they're amazing!" "I love Harvard/Stanford because it's amazing!"
If you didn't get in, it probably means that... these are the most competitive schools in the country.

I interviewed last week and all I can say is: STANFORD IS PARADISE. The students were among the happiest I've seen, the admissions staff was friendly and concerned, the grass was green, the sky was blue, and the opportunities seemed endless.

Here's to the wait!

Two people interview, "one professor and one student". What is the students input and what is the professors input????? Does the student interview carry any importance,😍 or is it just a formality?🙂

wait, they have march 3rd, THEN 30th and 31st? weird wonder what happened to the dates in between...maybe someone canceled an interview

I think the student and, in my case an MD, complete a survey after the interview about our qualities. They also transcribe the notes that they take during our interviews. The notes and the surveys are basically in defense of us as potential Stanford students. These items are what actually make it to the admissions committee and then we are evaluated overall. I REALLY hope both interviews get equal weight because my MD interview was only about 20 minutes long - she got a page and had to get to work, so we only talked about my research. In my down time I thought about everything I would have wanted my first interviewer to know and then I took the initiative to tell those things to my student interviewer so she could supplement my story to the adcoms.

They do complete a survey and then write a long write up about you. My host was doing one for an applicant she had interviewed, so I saw I brief glimpse at what it looked like. I didn't get the sense that either faculty or student interviewer would be at the committee meeting to defend you.

My faculty interview was also shorter ( like 30 minutes long...he seemed busy...and not too helpful, because he didn't teach med students and really participate in non-graduate medical education...he had no idea how to answer most of my questions, lol). My student interview was way better and 1 hour long and I felt like I got to convey a lot more personal aspects of my application than I did with my faculty interviewer. I'm not sure if the student necessarily really liked me, but I did convey myself better.

I'm about 99% sure I'm waitlisted...haha, so I obviously did something wrong though.

Yes, I was told by my faculty interviewer about the process and neither interviewer will be physically present during the adcom meeting.

I agree with the process. How is the decision made?
Accepted,😀
Standby,😕
Rejected.:scared:

Does the student interviewer assess a point system?
Does the faculty assess a point system?
Someone mentioned here that the student interviewer/faculty interviewer does not meet the admission committee?
What is the communication media between the interviewers and the admission committee.
Does the admission committee assess some points based on the application material without seeing the candidate? (May be this is the basis for the 475+ select for the interview process)
Can someone shed some light on the process

Thanks! ! ! ! !🙂

Has anyone asked or heard when second look weekend is scheduled.
Would love to go back. Good luck everyone!🙂

Hey there!!! For those that are accepted or waitlisted and want to start scheduling your second look schedules, I wanted to give you a heads up that ours is April 9-10!!!

Hey StanfordStudent....are people ever accepted off the waitlist at Stanford?

Absolutely! I don't know numbers or percentages or anything like that, but despite whatever rumors you hear, there is actually a fair amount of waitlist movement so don't lose hope if you get waitlisted!!

Sadly though I doubt any waitlist movement will happen before second look 🙁

Exactly. Last year had one person get off in mid-June on SDN. I just assume they don't accept many people from the waitlist...just because it's not as difficult to fill a class of 86 (as compared to other top schools with larger class sizes).

yeah i doubt any movement before second look, but i do think they take a lot off the waitslist, relatively, cuz i heard they usually accept 1.5 times the class size initially, but go to the waitlist to get to the twice the class size acceptance number, which is quite a bit

don't lose hope yet mdeast... you might still get accepted this week!
I interviewed the same week, and didn't receive a call...but I'm also really close to stanford and didn't receive a waitlist/rejection letter yet either

Eh. My hopes aren't too high. I am at the 4 week mark next week, so if I don't hear anything by then I'm gonna call. But I sort of expect my waitlist letter by the end of the week.

I think it took me over 5 weeks to get the waitlist mail (I'm in NYC)

Yikes annoying. They seem to be meeting more often to make decisions though....and I was told to call if it had hit 4 weeks and I hadn't heard anything. Either way, I'm 99% sure it's waitlist at this point if people who interviewed the same week as me were already accepted.

So does Stanford reject post-interview? It sounds like it doesn't...

they definitely have rejected post interview in the past. about a quarter or so of my friends who have interviewed in past years have been rejected post interview
