I am interviewing on 12/23 (got the invite on 12/11).

How did you arrange to stay with a med student?

Did you just fill out the form online? And if so, how long did it take for them to get back to you?

I used the online form. I figure I will give it until middle of next week, then follow up with the admissions office.

yeah I used the online form and then somebody emailed me back a week or two later with my student host's information

ACCEPTED! Interviewed late September, notified via email! 😍

I will say: attention to all who are post-interview and haven't heard back for a bit...

I had my interview in the last week in September, didn't hear anything. I uploaded an update letter last week, and now I'm in. I'm not saying that did it for sure, but is a very interesting coincidence, eh?

Just trying to help fellow SDNers out!

I was thinking about sending an update letter and mention how much I'm in love with their program. You may have just convinced me to send one now that my finals are outta the way.
Mind saying what you had to update(like how significant was your update?) ?

Actually, it was kind of a lackluster update and was more so there to show that I'm continuing and ascending in my activities, have obtained an EMT job, and then expressed continued interest in their program. No publications, grade updates (since I've graduated), or crazy research updates, lol

Apparently it was good enough!

You give me hope. I could hug you! haha

Always a joy to help a fellow Illini out! 😀

Congrats Bender!!! I reaaaally want to send an update letter but I'm afraid I don't have anything "update" worthy other than "I love your school please let me in!" lol.

I interviewed end of october so at this point I wasn't counting on hearing from them before final pool but it's good to see that people who interviewed further back are still getting accepted. 👍

Got an email today. I'm in!!!!!!!!!!!😀😀😀😀😀😀 Interview 11/23 n OOS. I was expecting to hear back sometime in Jan but I guess Santa came early this year!! First real acceptance so I'm super excited.

For those who have received the official letter in the mail, what does it say in regards to conditions of acceptance... I'm just curious..

Thanks

Mailed in my unacceptance a couple days ago. Enjoy the extra spot, people!

Hi all - got the acceptance email yesterday. I interviewed 9/28 (i think) and didn't send any updates. Instate (sort of - in the military).

Congrats to everyone else.

I interviewed here on 11/2 and am OOS. I haven't heard anything yet, and am wondering if we are put into the final pool, does anyone know the (approximate) chances of getting an acceptance? Are they rejecting people by e-mail or snail-mail? I loved Iowa SO MUCH and would love to go here!

it hasn't been too long since your interview relatively speaking. What state are you from?

Just got back from my Iowa interview! I had a fantastic time. Not sure if this has been said already but just for the people still waiting to here, apparently the adcom isn't meeting this coming Tuesday and won't resume meeting until after New Years.

I won't be applying until this year, but this is my In State and Dream school so it's been fun watching your acceptances roll in. Congrats folks...

bummer...I was hoping they would meet one last time before the end of the year 🙁

Interview invite today! Complete in mid-November.

See you in Iowa on the 4th of January!

Has anyone taken AKK up on their housing offer? They seem very friendly. I'm going completely broke this year so I'm shaving dollars wherever I can get them.

How is Iowa in January? Do I need to buy a pair of dress boots? :soexcited:

Congrats on the invite! I know at least one other person has posted about staying with them so check the thread and maybe try to PM them. Save money where you can! I stayed with a medical student for my visit. I wouldn't buy boots just for the interview but if you're just looking for an excuse to go shopping...sure knock yourself out! Once you get to the interview you stay inside for the most part. There is a connection from the medical school building to the hospital, so when we went on the tour we stayed inside. However, I imagine it will be pretty chilly by the time you go. I'm not from Iowa but in Chicago it's fairly cold. I'd plan on 20-30s...maybe even colder at night (not including windchill ) It's quite sad how "warm" 30 can start to feel in the winter when you've had days on end sub-zero!:scared:

I'm from Pittsburgh. Because God hates us, Pittsburgh reaches exactly 32.1 degrees in winter. The rain only freezes when it hits the ground or soaks into your clothing.

Hey Untraditional, I am from SW. Pa but spent 5 yrs in Iowa so this is to you. First off, God does not hate Pittsburgh, ie. Penguins and Steelers, yeah I know Stillers need a bit of luck this year, but great sports town!

Cant even begin to compare Iowa winters to PA. Iowa and Iowa City are COLD, COLD, COLD!!!!! Cover every inch of your skin. Wind Chill can be numbing. Its so flat there Nothing stops the wind. Buy boots! Iowa City is nice, safe, great mid west people..... but nothing beats the Steeler Nation! Ok thats my two cents.
Good Luck!

We have been mightily blessed with the best sports teams and fandom in the Western world, its true.

Thanks for the advice about Iowa! I will definitely be equipped for the weather. My interview, on the other hand, will require some extra prep.

What questions do you wish you had asked when you were interviewing that you didn't think about when you went through this?

Interview invite yesterday.
Jan 13th.

Does anybody know what the deal is with the school supplementing your travel costs? That would be sweet.

I got the ISIS information 7 days after acceptance. If it has been much longer than this, you should probably contact the admissions office.

I'm from Kansas! I used to live in Iowa though so it's my "home away from home" I guess. I loved the school and am dying to hear SOMETHING. lol. my head is going to burst soon if I don't. Wouldn't an acceptance just be the best christmas present though?

I've gotten the impression that being from neighboring state like Kansas increases your chances as OOS, because it's more likely you'll stay in Iowa I think, but I don't know if this is true or not. Good Luck, sorry you have to wait till after the holidays for them to resume meeting.

They aren't meeting today?

They notified you in just over a week? I interviewed on the same day and I haven't heard anything back yet 😕. Hopefully I hear back soon...

So does anyone know until when Iowa continues to interview. Hopefully, into March or April?

Kansas? Ah, I see. Maybe I should have lived in Kansas or something.

As much as I wish (and hope) it does, I don't think living here gives me any more advantage than anyone else that deserves to go to Iowa! Oh well. I'm crossing my fingers that they resume meeting next week?! That's what I understand anyways...

Hoping that they meet today......... anyone else out there as anxious as me?

Has anyone submitted a letter of interest (post-interview) on the secondary application website via the "additional information form"? I have already submitted an "update", but it wasn't really a letter of interest. The site says this:

Examples of items we will accept are:
-Descriptions of new activities, awards, etc.
-Changes in academic record (i.e., new courses, course changes, grade error, etc.)
-New or not previously cited publication notations

...it doesn't look like a letter of interest is included. Do they take them by e-mail?

I always thought letters of interest were something people did after being put on hold or waitlisted, if you haven't heard post-interview I dont think you need to do that but I may be wrong, but if you have any other updates, def submit that. im also anxious to hear back, hopefully we will hear something today

looks like either no one is updating or they didn't meet again today :scared:
