I just realized something, all acceptances have been sent on tuesdays this year. Last year the 10th was a tuesday, and tuesday is the 9th this year maybe one less day to wait.

potentially 2 weeks from today? That would be fantastic, but I'll believe it when I see it. Iowa likes to take its sweet time.

I like this detective work 👍

That would make a lot of sense, the adcom probably just meets every Tuesday throughout the entire admissions process, it would be a lot easier to schedule at least. Of course this also means we might have to wait until the 16th, that would probably still be in the range of "early to mid-March".

Does it really take them 4 months to decide who they want to accept or reject? Come on now, they probably know right when we are done with interviews. I feel like this whole process is just a sick form of torture.

If it's any consolation, I interviewed at my state school in October, and I won't know my fate until May 15th, haha. But I know what you mean, the wait in this process is ridiculous.

:xf::luck: For you.

Just think about how much better it will make getting in👍... or how much worse it would be getting rejected..👎

I can see why they would want to wait until after all the interviews are done. After all there are more acceptable applicants than there are seats so i can see why you would want to wait. However since the last interviews where in january i dont see what they gained by waiting until march.

While im definatly in agreement that the wait is rough, and is likely taking years off our lives, I think the adcom is probably waiting for people they have already accepted to give up their slots so they know how many slots they have to work with. Also an in stater here, first time poster ye haah, really hoping to be back in iowa city next fall.

Hey guys,

I'm applying for 2011 admission and I was looking at Iowa's admissions requirements. The math requirement says college algebra and trigonometry. Are they serious? I have done college algebra and 1 year of calculus but no Trig. Are they at all flexible regarding trigonometry?

Thanks in advance.

I didn't even know they had that requirement. I only had one year of calc. And they never said anything. I'd call to clarify, maybe it means either/or.

most people have done trig in high school. Usually with requirements, if you have surpassed that level and taken higher level classes, that satisfies the requirement.

Ahh, losing my sanity! has anyone tried calling to find out how much of the class is filled? any of you accepted kids have any indication? Someone on one of my other subsciptions to another school said that there was a facebook group for the matriculating class with so many members. got any estimates for me?

Losing my sanity too! I haven't tried calling or anything, but will definitely nominate you for the task! 😀

Has anyone seen "Crazies", this movie is freakin scaaaaaaarrrryy...:scared::scared:
It has me reconsidering Iowa....j/k. Anyway if you guys are into thrillers, you gotta watch this, if u're queay, DON'T!!

I can see the light at then end of the tunnel... just a few more days until I know if it's a train or not.

I hear you man. A few more days? aren't we saying the 9th at least?

I'm officially unsubscribing from this thread and I'm going to attempt to avoid looking at it until I hear whether or not the light at the end of the tunnel is a train. haha Chances are I'll cheat a little but i figure i gotta try.
good luck everyone!:luck:
if you need me, I'll either be neurotically checking my inbox/mail or curled in the fetal position in the corner fretting.:scared:

How crazy would it be if today was the day?

MEGA CRAZY!

MEGA CRAZY!

Dunno! Looks like two years in a row it was ~March 10th! I'm trying to resign myself to another week of waiting otherwise I will make everyone in my lab completely crazy today!

I suppose at this point I can wait the last few more days. Besides if I don't get in....well spring break would be the best time to get the bad news.

Okay, so definitely not today! I made a very sneaky phone call. :ninja:

How telling of them.... i am confident it will likely be next week everyone. Funny that the decision might very well already be made and its sitting in some computer data base waiting to be printed, stuffed in an envolope, and shipped to your front door. If only the admissions office could see first hand what they are putting us through haha, hang in there guys 🙂

haha I'm sure they know what we're going through. They are probably begged for info everyweek. That being said we should email them this thread.

Im sure the admissions office has some horror stories, I would love to hear some of them.

The general idea I get from SDN is that they are well aware of this thread already. So they know our suffering and continue to torment us... sadistic.

Oh well, off to more time wasting activities.

What, did I scare everyone off or something?

Anyone else gonna be on spring break when the decisions are handed out?
I will be, assuming it's next Tuesday. I'm not even doing anything cool, but that would make it the best spring break EVER.

I still have classes next week, but if its the following week I'll be in South Padre, TX. That will help soften the blow if I don't get in! I just hope I save some brain cells in case I get in.

I would also assume it to be next Tuesday because Iowa's spring break is the week after.

Withdrew from acceptance here. Hope it goes to someone here in the next week!

Did u guys get the invitation for "Iowa's second look", it's 4/10/10. I'm seriously considering it, I need plan my schoolwork around the trip and do enough work beforehand..

Anyway thinking about going??

I didn't receive an email like that. Are you oos?

I'd like to, but it's probably a bit too expensive to fly out there for me. I would really love to get some information on housing though...

The notifications for final pool will be sent out by snail mail, right? That's what the e-mail says anyways... would they send out the letters ON next Tuesday or are we expecting to get them Tuesday? I'm running out of waiting energy!! hah.

I know that the admissions committee told us that, but i have discussed this with a number of people who are at carver now who were both accepted in the final pool and who were accepted off the waitlist. It seems that even though admissions office says they will only send out snail mail for this portion of the admissions cycle it doesn't seem to be the case. It seems that those who are receiving acceptances will receive emails followed by a letter, and those who are going to be denied or put on the wait list will receive only a letter in the mail. I dont know the reason for the discrepincy, but maybe the email is just for redundancy so they can be sure all accepted students are contacted in some manner. So as far as I can see the past couple of years those who were accepted received emails on the 10th and others who received letters in the mail got them a couple of days later.

Now this is the kicker, Iowa will refund your cost of travel up to $425!!!!!!!!!! This really seems like Iowa cares for its own, simply awesome.

It's organized as a meet n greet for the incoming M1 class with other stuff thrown in. I got by snail mail...

Goodluck to everyone waiting for news....
