I don't know for sure, but I'm just putting the year i was in HS...08/2005-06/2006. If they reject me for that, that's stupid. Suck it, Iowa.
 
So I basically updated them on everything that i have done after primaries within question 3 (regarding experience for the past 5 years)...do i need to do it again in the additional info section...seems redundant...

Isn't question 3 for only for medically related stuff? If it is all medical then put it there. If not, then add it to the additional info section (if you think it is really important for them to know). Keep in mind you can only add stuff to the additional info section three times.
 
June 12th for me...and I got verified on June 24th
 
Is anyone having issues with it saying "Question 5 - max length of 1500 characters exceeded (you entered 3024)"

I didn't even put anything in question 5...Sorry my font is red it transferred over when I copy pasted...

This happened to me too. I cut down question three a bit and then it was fine... I think it is some error. Looks like you are over 24 characters for question 3.

haha ok that makes sense...their character count is a little off compared to word which says i was under 3000 but cutting down #3 fixed the problem. thanks!

The same thing happened to me on the "why Carver College of Medicine" essay. Word said I was at 1499, but they said I was over by like 4 or 5. It was an easy fix, but I didn't understand it. I'm not sure why their counter is off. Actually, it may be word, because word miscounted on my personal statement too.

Yes, I also continue to run into this issue. Thankfully, I usually can find some short phrase that my essay can live without.

Maybe Word is trying to more accurately represent what it would be like if we actually counted the characters ourselves? I know I would probably miscount by 4 or 5, so that seems pretty reasonable.

Question 1: We understand you are probably applying to multiple medical schools. Please explain your reasons for applying to the Carver College of Medicine.
Question 2: Describe any unique personal characteristics and obstacles you may have overcome that will contribute to the diversity of, and bring educational benefits to, the entering class.
Question 3: Please list and provide a brief description of medically related experiences (paid or volunteer) in which you have participated over the past 5 years.
There is also a reapplicant essay and another one that did not apply to me either. The first 2 questions allow 1500 characaters (with spaces) and the third allows 3000 (with spaces).
 
Are we supposed to include physician shadowing in Essay 3 as a medically related experience?
 
Anyone know if u can get in state tuition after 1 year or so?
 
For their List Your Medical experiences and describe them, you guys think it would be okay to copy/paste from AMCAS?

I think that is what most people are doing, or at least that is basically what I did.
 
Anybody know when they sent out interview invites last year? Sometime in August or September?

There were interview invite threads last year, similar to the ones for this year. I looked it up in there a while back, but I can't remember it right now. If no one knows/looks it up by tomorrow, I will try to look at that sometime in the morning. I am just too tired/lazy to search for it right now.

Word doesn't count lines between paragraphs as characters (tab indents = 1 char). AMCAS counted each blank line as 2 characters. Most likely it is something related to that.

I was in the first round and received an interview invite on 9/9/08. They asked me to call them to schedule, and give me dates a week later with little flexibility. Not much time to prepare, but that's how they roll. Booking a flight a week in advance = sky high fares. Other schools sent invites months in advance, FWIW.

Hmm. I am only 5 hours away. Assuming I get the interview, I will probably be driving this one if that is the case... plus a 5 hour drive is definitely not bad.
 
Anyone get a notice that their payment was received from this school? My status still says not received.

I think the secondary said it could take up to five business days, so hopefully in the next couple of days we will know. I paid last thursday too.

i like that you can see all the info in one screen. and i like that for the md/phd section you can add all your research in one essay/prompt. that way i can make sure they know about this summer.

ps, even though you added iowa "later" it still isn't actually "late" ...🙂

lol i know im not "late" persay. I just meant that I added after myother schools 🙂. MD/phd is crazy good luck🙂. Everytime i see an md phd i wonder how they could tolerate it :scared:
 
well, i don't know what i'd do with myself if i didn't do md/phd. i wouldn't want one without the other.

Theres a doc at our hospital whos an md/phd/mba/...and his last name is like 12 letters. His white coat has the most insane lettering ever ahha...i have no idea why the **** anyone would do that but :shrug: to each their own.
 
I received an email stating you applied to the school and you are waiting verification, but Iowa does screen primaries before sending out secondaries yada yada yada. Does everyone receive that email?

I didnt get that email. the only email i got today was telling me i have been approved to fill out a 2ndary

I received that email while my AMCAS was waiting to be verified but I received another email today with directions on filling out the secondary. I was excited to receive the secondary because everyone else in here seemed to receive theirs last week and I thought I was going to be screened out!

Are you out of state? I got that email too...
 
i'm out of state and didn't get that email, just the secondary. are you not verified yet?

Must be something to do with the verification for sure then... I got the secondary on the first day it was out, but definitely got this email like a week prior...
 
Anyone have the fee received status yet? I am still not received, and it has been awhile since I submitted...

I submitted on the 10th, and mine still says it hasn't been received. I called the admissions office earlier this week, because I was worried about it, but my credit card says it was paid. They said not to worry and it should be updated by the end of the week.... but that's tomorrow already. Hopefully it changes soon so my file can officially be "complete!"
