I submitted on the 10th, and mine still says it hasn't been received. I called the admissions office earlier this week, because I was worried about it, but my credit card says it was paid. They said not to worry and it should be updated by the end of the week.... but that's tomorrow already. Hopefully it changes soon so my file can officially be "complete!"

Yeah I know what you mean. I keep telling myself not to worry about it...

lol im calm...i just wanted to put 10 of those faces 😛

hahaha...i think that it is a funny thing that everyone just assumes that as pre-meds we are freaking out (because quite often we are)...

lol im actually calm about everything in this process at the moment. I only tend to get crazy over california schools because im desperate to stay in state. On a side note, after reading some of the opportunities at iowa im really excited about them. So far its one of the few OOS schools i would actually want to attend if i cant stay in state. Right up there with georgetown, im glad i added them 🙂

They have all my stuff now too, but my status is still incomplete.

Did you notice that it says they won't review apps until September? 🙁

Hm, am I missing something? Where does it actually say the status is incomplete/complete? At the top it says: "In order for the Admissions Committee to review your application to the Regular M.D. program, the Application Items with a yes in the Required column must be submitted prior to the absolute deadline to complete your file." And all the yes columns are complete on mine, so I just assumed my file is complete. Also, I didn't notice that they aren't reviewing until September....I thought it would be earlier because it says interviews will start in September.

At the top of the box, under the grey "Application Item Inventory," it says:

File Status: Your file is INCOMPLETE
(Review the Status column for missing items and Accepted by CCOM column in the Letters section below.). We will notify you when your file has been verified complete by e-mail at which time this status will change. The Admissions Committee will not be reviewing files until September.

I didn't do any academic record update because i put my fall classes on my amcas. anybody do the same? that is why it still says incomplete i think because all of my required stuff is in there.

That record i thought was only for classes you have actually received grades in. I put my spring grades in there since they werent on my transcripts, it also looks like they want you to put summer and other upcoming grades also.

my transcripts had my spring grades on them and i am not taking summer classes...all of my fall classes are on amcas so i dont think i have anything to put in...

 Hahahaha, wow, that is so big and obvious. Don't know how I couldn't see it, it is staring me in the face now. And mine also says Incomplete. Wonder what that's all about? I think I will call them tomorrow.... Even all of my LOR's have been received.

unless im misunderstanding it, you dont have to put fall classes until after they are done, id assume tahts why they put the deadlines that they do list on there. You shouldnt have to put anything on it for now.

Just wait till tomorrow. For me, the fee wasn't updated until tonight well after they shut down. Manual processing might be required to mark us all as complete.

Yay finally marked as complete here!!! Now time for the waiting game.

I'm still incomplete, but everything received.

Never mind I am not complete. I missed the area at the top of the page where they say your file is marked as incomplete, but it is weird because they mark everything I have as received...

its like this with a lot of schools it seems, just takes time to update because of the 129031023 apps they have to process. IF everything is received its no cause for concern as they would email you to let you know there is a problem (like boston did)

It says they will send us an email once complete, though.

I have a question about the why iowa essay. I concentrated only on their case based studying, and wrote about my experiences with Organic Chemistry and why I thought I could thrive in their curriculum. Do you think it would be alright to focus on that? I wrote a pretty in depth essay, but obviously i had no room for anything else. Their case based program really is one of the biggest reasons I want to go there. I feel like 1500 characters really isn't enough space...

if its why you want to go there then cool. I focused more on the service distinction tract and some things in therre that I am interested in. It doesnt matter what you write, as long as you are truthful just leave it at that. Its not like there is a right answer.

Anyone else have an LOR that got rejected by these guys? Seems the only thing they accept is your committee letter.

I highly doubt thats true as not all schools have a committee letter, not to mention i know people complete there who have individual letters.

Hmmm. Wonder why my letter got rejected then. Guess I will have to call them up. It's not like the writer isn't affiliated with the university. Do you know if those people who have individual letters also had a committee letter?

I don't have a committee who writes letters for students at my school. We have to put together individual letter and then they get sent as a packet. Hopefully they'll be ok with my letters cause its really all I have.
Were your letter writers not what they asked for or something?

The only thing I can think of is that if your school has a committee then that is all they want. All of the other schools have accepted my individual letters too.

the people i know who are complete and sent individual letters do not have committee letter options at our school. My school has no committee. If your school has one this is why they may reject your letters, as some schools require such a committee letter if your school is able to provide one. Also some schools require that all letters be on official school letter heads, some teachers do not do this and they may reject becuase of it. If u do call let me know as im sorta curious. 🙂

Haha they made a mistake. I was allowed an extra letter plus my committee letter. It has been fixed 🙂. It is no longer rejected.

Just received this email:

"This is to inform you that we have received all of your secondary application materials and your file is complete. We will notify you in writing of the next step in the admissions process or when a final decision is made on your application...

(Some talk about updating your info)

...The process of selecting the best candidates for the medical program takes some time to complete. We expect to have final decisions made on all applications by March 30, 2009."

I wish I did know about their decision this past March, but I think they mean 2010. I've looked at my secondary page, and it still says "incomplete."
This must be updated later.

Hmm. They have all my stuff, but I didn't get this. I wondery why...

They received two of my letters yesterday but other two are missing.

they have all my letters, i already submitted but not complete, I guess w/e. Considering they dont even look at your app until like sept, I am not too worried here.

I just got the complete email today... the website still says I am not complete though. It took them a few days to get it to me even after everything was marked as being in. It takes them awhile to accept your letters too.

hey everyone, thought i'd pop in and say hi, i am applying to Iowa too.

I got verified on 7/22 and submitted to them 7/23 . . . looks like it took you guys ~2 weeks to get the secondary? is that about right?

I think I'd really like Iowa . . . when I moved away from my college town I realize how much I like college towns and all the perks that come with them (like cheap rent.) Plus, even though I am an IL resident, IA is actually the closest school to where my parents live- we're right across the state line.

i'd say it's in my top 5 🙂 and i actually like their secondary questions that you all posted!

Where are you from again? Why don't you have an MDApps profile!?!?! I feel like thats how i remember who's who on SDN.

Also my new favorite thing to do is cruise craigslist to get a feel for the type of housing available in the areas where i am applying to schools . . . i almost crapped my pants when i saw how cheap Iowa is. it would be magical to live there- plus it's a freaking awesome school! Win-win! everyone wants to live in a big city for med school but i figure i'll already be too stressed and annoyed to also have to deal with catching a bus or paying $1200 a month in rent. Also, as much as I would never want to LIVE with my parents again, I like the idea of them being near enough (about 1hr away) to come visit me and buy me dinner. Here's to Iowa!

I have almost no desire to live in a big city for med school. I am from a big enough city as it is.

For the to-from dates for course work, are we putting the dates we took the class like 01/2007 to 05/2007 or are we putting the time we were at that specific institution like 08/2006 to 05/2010

Also does anyone know if they take the biochem substitution for orgo 2?
