Go hawks, 8-0 baby, and yes carver is a good school. Real good. if ur insate u get an interview automatically before u even have ur letters in, and if ur GPA is above 3.0

iowa hasn't played yet so they aren't 8-0.. but should be a dog fight in east lansing

I interviewed here a couple weeks ago in-state. They said that they evaluate instate ppl separately from out of state. I think they also give them easier interviewers. I was lumped into an interview group of 5 with the in staters and the one ivy league kid. Everyone else was in the two other groups. Here's to hoping they pick us in-staters before the final pool!:luck:

Edit: Touchdown with 2 seconds left, Hawks go 8-0!!!!!!!! Woohooo!

My interview is monday. I can't decide whether I'm nervous or just really excited.

don't be nervous it's not bad at all! on my interview day they kept trying to warn us about the structured portion (and I heard a lot of negative reviews on here too)...however, my interviewers were really nice and friendly and didn't just give me the blank stare during the "3 structured questions" portion. They didn't respond obviously, but they nodded and smiled as I talked and took notes occasionally. It didn't seem weird or awkward at all like I was anticipating. With my last interview it was extremely conversational (almost too informal) and on many occasions I had to remind myself that I was in a med school interview, especially w/ the student.

Also, everyone at the school was just really nice so there's nothing to worry about there....good luck!

Yeah, hopefully not. The financial aid representative mentioned that students receive 30% on average in scholarships and grants (although they do want to know your parents tax information and income to be considered for their scholarships). Hopefully funds won't disappear too drastically over the next few years. She also mentioned that they were considering getting rid of the perkins loan program which would undoubtedly suck...sadly attending here as oos is about the same if not cheaper than attending my state school though 😕/😱 (yay illinois 👍). Attending medical school is just ridiculously expensive all around though...I guess the price we pay to pursue our passion.

On the bright side, the Hawkeyes are 8-0. :highfive:

Accepted by Snail Mail on 10/21. OOS. I just found out now because I seldom check my mailbox...

Also, I actually met SteinUmStein at NU lol. Congrats!

That's great to see OOSers getting accepted already. I loved this school and Iowa. I would absolutely love an interview here.

Two questions if you don't mind: when did you interview here, and did they not send out an email acceptance (anyone with an acceptance here could answer this one I guess)?

I interviewed on 9/28. I didn't receive an e-mail. I did, however, receive 2 letters by snail mail. I only found out early this morning, although the letter was dated as 10/21.

Interviewed today. I know it has been said a bunch before but they way to describe the people there is "nice". Even the people at the hotel went out of their way to be friendly and throughout the entire interview day the staff kept repeating how much they love the students. I felt so welcomed there.
The campus is just beautiful too, the buildings are all really new and the MERF building is really cool because there's so much glass everywhere.

Things are kinda a blur but I got asked why medicine, how would you change health care/lower costs, how i deal with stress, stuff about my activities, etc. I got asked a lot of questions but it didn't feel like an interrogation. For the most part it was very relaxed and they seemed interested in my answers.

The only weird question i got was something about describing a positive or negative experience i had at my undergrad institution and I really didn't know how to answer that one because nothing pops into mind as really amazing or really horrible.

i called last friday and they said my file had not yet gone before the whole comitee. interviewed 9/21. I really want to get in but even more so i just want to know either way

I interviewed 9/30 so I'm assuming that they haven't looked at me yet either. Which number did you call? I might call them if I don't hear anything after next week.

wow they haven't reviewed people that interviewed in september yet?!! I just interviewed last week so I probably have awhile before I hear back...that is if i'm luck enough to hear a decision during rolling admissions :xf:

i reaaaaaalllly want an interview at Iowa but havnt gotten one and have been complete for almost 2 months. i wonder what the deal is??? im OOS but in a bordering state, and have a 35 mcat and 3.7gpa! would it do any good to call and say....anything?

I hear harassment is always a greeeaaat option🙄

Just give it time (I know how hard that is), but they will get in contact with you. I wouldn't call unless you have some question about your file being complete (which it should show you online)

From the secondary website, "

I think that they dont necessarily go in order, because i thought that someone got accepted that interviewed on 9/28.

Thanks for the number Sandey.
Yeah, I'm afraid they don't go by when you interviewed but rather where you rank compared to other students.

Just got the acceptance e-mail today! Interviewed two weeks ago (10/14)!!!! OOS
:soexcited:

I had very similar stats and I had to wait for what seemed forever (probably around 2 months like you). You just have to be patient as much as it sucks. It seems like waiting is 90-95% of this process, so we just have to get used to it.

Congrats! I hope so badly that I can be lucky enough to get that email too!

Hey! How's it going? 🙂 I'm not too tough to figure out...

For all you in-state people who get accepted.. can you post your stats? GPA, Mcat, extracirricular and all..

I have currently a 3.33 cGPA and a 33M Mcat.. and a decent but not so hot amount of extra-cirriculars. I am an in-state, 4th year senior and plan on applying after I have finished my BS.

just had my interview here today... I was very impressed with the school to say the least! My interviewers were nice and the standardized questions aren't nearly as bad as some people make them seem like they're going to be.

No acceptances today? I was under the impression that, because they review apps on Tuesdays, that they send out acceptances on Tuesday afternoons. Can anyone confirm this?

From other people that I've heard from, you could get an e-mail on Tuesday or Wednesday. Perhaps the people who may have received e-mails today are not SDNers.

I guess that depends on when you interviewed...when did you interview?

Hey, did anyone here interview on Oct 30th? I am trying to be patient but I loved Iowa and I really want to go there! anyone heard anything? I think I will go crazy if I really have to wait until march.

Once you get an interview instate you have exactly a 50% chance of getting accepted here. Contrast that with Miami where you have a 75% chance after interview independent of your residency status.

I'm pretty sure nobody got accepted to Iowa this week. A friend of mine just interviewed here this week and they told her that the ad com didn't meet this week, but it has been meeting every Tuesday. Also you will know within 24 hours when they accept you (via email).

Is this from the MSAR??

There is some similar information on medschoolready.com. It lists chances for IS and OOS.

These are more accurate predictors of what your chances are.

Anyone anxious for tomorrow? I interviewed about two weeks ago and am hoping for some good news.

I'm curious about how backlogged the committee is though.

interviewed about 3 weeks ago but since they didn't meet last week and who knows what order they go through files (don't think it's entirely on when you interviewed) I won't be expecting anything...but I will be pleasantly surprised if I do receive news! Does anyone know if they reject post-interview this early? Or will they just move you to the final applicant pool and make all of the final decisions later?

I inquired yesterday as I interviewed in september and they said that beginning this week the committee will be meeting every week and that my application is still in the rolling phase. has been over a month for me. So frustrating, but if I get an acceptance it is worth the wait.

Just received an acceptance email (3:09 pm central time). OOS.

Hey! I interviewed on 9/23 and LOVED Iowa. I really really want to go here, but so far I haven't heard anything. Should I be worried? I'm an OOS, but a 31 Mcat and 3.93 GPA. I'm just wondering if I should stop obsessively checking my email, and wait for final pool.....
I hate the waiting.
Congrats to all y'all who got acceptances!
Fingers crossed!🙂

I wonder if they save a lot of the in-state acceptances for the final pool? Based on this forum and my friends at Iowa, very few in-state people have been accepted. Maybe they reserve the 50% who get accepted in the rolling phase for well-qualified out-of-states? I interviewed beginning of Octorber and still nothing. Will probably call if I still don't hear anything by next week.

I was thinking the same thing. I am in state and interviewed 10/23 so it hasn't really been that long yet but still. Also they did say that half the commitee evaluates IS and half evaluates OOS. Seeing as they interview/accept twice as many IS people that half of the commitee may be more backed up than the OOS half. I have given this too much thought I think.

Interviewed today (11/13)! I think it went well. Time to sit and wait.
